Mac OS X 10.4.3
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.4.3 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Kernels are available for most configured machines

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.4.3 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.
Note: Emulated installations do not belong on this HCL

See the x86 software page for programs you can run without Rosetta.

I encounterd a lot of problems with the dvd-rom drive so i used a usb external dvd-drive to install. The drive still isnt working. My network is wired and running fine. I installed on the second partition of my harddrive using an external dvd-rom player and vm ware. 511192644729

[edit] Acer TravelMate 803LCi

PM 1,6 GHz (SSE2 only), 512MB RAM, Intel 855PM/ICH4-M, onboard AC97 Sound, 80GB HD, ATI Mobility 9000, Pro/Wireless 2100, O2Micro Modem

I had 10.4.1 installed and running on this portable, I just did an update installation. In 10.4.1 I had to modify some files to get Sound running, no need to do this time, works out of the box. The AC97 Modem is also recognized properly, as well as the BCM Ethernet Card. The only thing left not working is Wireless Support and the Radeon, but the GUI runs much smoother in 10.4.3 than before.

[edit] Acer Travelmate 8104wlmi

Update: Acer Aspire 5002WLMI

Mac OSX86 & Acer Aspire 5002WLMI

For those who have Acer Aspire 5000 Notebooks, no doubt you have tried many times to install OS X and failed. The installer DVD's always stall when waiting for the root device.

The only way around this issue seems to be to use a USB DVD drive. Now, Acer *seems* to have some very rudimentary support for booting from USB DVD drives, but it is very buggy and doesn't always work. One side affect is that the access to the hard drive via Disk Utility won't let you partition.

I had to partition the 40GB HDD in my Desktop OSX86 box. I created 2 partitions, one 6GB FAT32 and a 32GB Mac OS partition. The reason for FAT32 is that I wanted to see if I could solve the Tiger bootloader issues by using Acronis OS Selctor.

Now, once you have your HDD pre-formatted, you can hook up your DVD drive to the USB port. You will know the notebook senses it if you put your OS X DVD in the drive, close it then right away turn the notebook on. If the Acer Logo stalls while the DVD drive spins up, chances are your Acer does support booting from USB DVD. (Note that this behavoir may depend if you have your first boot device set to DVD, regardless whether it is the internal one)

If everything goes as planned, you should see the darwin boot loader.

Very Important!!!!! You must use -v option to boot.

Once booting has started, you will see a bunch of text as it boots. At some point it will mention something about USB and sleep, and it will list your ATA controller and trackpad. It will then eventually say "Waiting For Root Device".

Unplug the USB cable from your USB DVD drive from the DVD drive itself. Then plug it back in. If the text says it was unable to enumerate the device, try moving ports. If not, reboot and try again. I had to try several times.

Once it says "USB blah blah has no kernal dependancy" it then should say it found root device and start booting.

If you get the error message that a unknown SEGCODE 0 or something similiar, the DVD you are using won't work. It will just crash or loop. Sorry. Don't know why.

If you make it to the Graphical installer, you will find out you have no mouse or keyboard. Plug a USB mouse and keyboard in. If the USB mouse doesn't work unplug and replug back in.

If you pre-formatted your HDD using another X86 OS X install, point the installer to your HDD partition. Then select your packages. The Acer 5000 series notebook is a SSE2 capable, so you will need to select any patches to make that work. This guide is a work in progress, so updates will be made when the install finishes as far as what work and what doesn't.

[edit] Acer Aspire 1612 LMi

Intel Centrino 1.7 80 HD 1GB DDR2 Rewriter dvd WiFi IRDA X700 Mobility 128 MB Pantalla 15.4 XP Home

Very good score in graphics test !!

Also the first 1692 sold (like mine) works. The difference is: 1GB RAM DDR 266 X600 Mobility 128 MB

What doesn't work: PC Card reader, WiFi. Modem not tested.

What works: All USBs, BlueTooth, Audio, touchpad + keyb, video res & CI & QE with Callisto patch, LAN with kext patch, DVD RW DL +-R, FireWire 400.

[edit] Acer Aspire 3000 LCi

[edit] Acer Ferrari 3200

Everything - except PCMCIA, Ethernet Gigabit and built-in dialup modem - works, though not without patching and stuff. Read my post for my patching steps (10.4.3, 10.4.3, 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 works for sure).

If you have any questions or are unsure about some of the steps feel free to PM me.

[edit] Acer Ferrari 3400

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 (AGP 8x, 128 MB). USB, Bluetooth, DVD-RAM, 4-in-1 card reader, and pretty much everything else all appear to be working except sound functions, but is buggy. Upon playing a song (mp3 format) in iTunes, the sound clicks, then starts about a second or two into the song, and continues to playback. Frequencies are off, and it plays at about 1.5x or 2x speed.

Different problem with Audio here: only left channel audio (after previously described clicking) Frequencies can be off, but usually they are ok. no speed errors. latest JAS patch a(G) Also: 56K modem works. An Ati Radeon 9700 pro graphics card is included, and can be a pain in the ass. Its a special modell only for Acer Ferrari and therefor the driver updates from ati wont work. Acer doesn't release new updates either.

[edit] Acer Ferrari 4002 WMLi

AMD Turion64 ML30, 512MB DDR RAM, ATI X700 128MB (still only on VESA3 1024x768), Onboard ethernet (working), ac'97 sound not working (after nativ), Broadcom wlan (not working). Nativly installed (f1111g8, patched with JaS 4.2b and ATI.Fix) But I try to get more working!

I've installed a native 10.4.3 8F1111 from a DTK DVD modifyed with Wesley patch. I successfully updated it to a 8F1111g and a now i'm running a stable kernel v3a patched by maxxuss. The PS2 Keyboard and trackpad are usable but i've to disable from the BIOS the USB Legacy Support.

UPDATE by Puck Darlington Studio48 Groningen The Netherlands.. The Best version of OSX86 that actually runs is the 10.4.x version made for the Eee pc.. Only thing you need to do is select Intel at the processor and that's it , o yea remove lang packs and X11 -and when you installed all and now your sound will work..do NOT UPDATE the OS or it wont work anymore..

With you good luck might wanna check my Youtube site AND LOOK for "Acer Travelmate 240 a perfect Macbook"

Hope this Helped . Greets Puck Darlington

[edit] Acer TravelMate C300 Tablet PC

(Model: C303XMi) Install from disc went extremely smooth when using external USB keyboard and mouse. Trackpad functional until a key is pressed on keyboard, keyboard itelf is totally non-functional. Sound is working great, wifi doesn't appear to be deteced (Intel BG2200), QE/CI not supported (Intel 855GM Chip), Lan was deteceted (but not tested yet). Did not test Bluetooth or DVD burner yet. Overall, the system appears very stable and the only real issue to get the system running is getting a keyboard and mouse plugged in via USB - after that, no issues at all other than unsupported peripherals.

[edit] Acer Travelmate 4002WLMi

Pentium M 725 Dothan 1.6 GHz SSE2, 512 MB RAM, Intel 82855GME 64 MB, Connexant AMC AC97 Audio, 60 GB HDD, Slimtype SOS-852s (a LiteOn modified by Acer). Run great and fast with the version 10.4.3. Nice sound with the sound chip, Broadcom 440x 10/100 fully functionnal, Intel 2200bg (wifi) doesn't work, video card cannot have an resolution over 1024x768px and I haven't see my onboard 56k modem, not a problem for me. The system is stable and very powerful. MAC OS X is running in native not using VMWARE.

[edit] Asus A3E

Centrino 1.5/512/60GB/Intel915/Wifi 2200bg DVD (F1111 patched with Jas Cant install native without external Monitor (cos Blue screen prob.), but install succesfully from VM, in the firt reboot stop machine, change AppleIntel*.kext and reboot native. Now MacOSX is working in native: Without wifi, modem, card reader and integrate webcam, and with kext error for Intel915, If change kext=blue screen. Lan, DVD Burner, Sound, TP, USB, Firewire and the rest works perfect.

[edit] Asus A6Va

PM 740 1.73 Ghz (SSE2, PAE), 1 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X700 128 MB, Realtek HD Sound, 80 GB HDD, Matshita UJ-840D, 802.11b/g WLAN, Toshiba internal Bluetooth, Marvel Yukon 1000/100 MBit Ethernet, BisonCam 1.3MP Webcam. I patched the 8f1111 DVD with the JaS ISO patcher and could install natively. The main problem I have is that the Marvel Yukon Ethernet card is not working. Sound, DVD Burner, Bluetooth and Trackpad are working perfectly. PCMCIA slot is also working (so you can plug a cheap realtek NIC for network). WebCam is not regonized. Screen resolutin is 1024x768, which looks quite ugly on the widescreen display. I have succesfully loaded the ATI9700 driver for x700 following the instructions in http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10415. QE and CI enabled, PCIe and VRAM now correctly reported.

[edit] Asus A6770 KLHa

Turion 64 MT-32 (1.8 GHz, SSE3, NX, PAE), 1024MB Ram (512MB Base), NVidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache 128 MB (VESA 3.0), Audio SiS7012 on-board ac97 codec (not working), WiFi (not working).

Firewire, trackpad, USB and Ethernet Works.

10.4.3 8f111 with JaS ppf patch.

[edit] Asus L4500R

PM 1.6 Banias (SSE2, no PAE, no NX), ATI Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP (Northbirdge: ATI RC300M, Southbridge: ATI SB200), 512 X 2 DDR400 Dual Channel. I plugged my harddisk to a P4 desktop machine with VMware to install 10.4.3 8f111. Please remember do not add any virtual USB hardware in VMware otherwise you will not able to start the installation. Optical Drive, Sound, Wireless, PC card doesn't work and no kext loaded for the Graphic chip as what happened in 10.4.1. Ethernet, Firewire and USB works.

  • A way to make the ALPS trackpad work properly: in the Extensions folder, go to ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/Plugins/ApplePS2Trackpad.kext/Content. Remove all the stuff in that "Content" folder and the trackpad will works find!

[edit] Asus Z71A

PM 1.6 OC to 2.13 GHz (SSE2, NO-NX), 512 DDR333, Intel 915GM, Ralink RT2500 mini-PCI wireless I installed build 8f1111 natively (after patching). I need a dummy s-video adapter to get QE & CI. I don't know if the modem works. Ethernet, sound, firewire, usb, trackpad works.

Wireless works without encryption with beta driver released 2005_11_30, but when enabled crashes sleep. Everything works well, very good laptop for OSX (tested with 10.4.1 10.4.3 and 10.4.4)

[edit] Asus Z91G

Z915G16N-DR PM-1.6 ,(SSE2),768MB DDR333,Intel 855Pm,ATI M10(9700 64MB). Tryed the 10.4.3(Patched),installed with Ghost8.3 on a 4GB Partition. Keyboard&Mouse&touchpad,work well.Sound card works well. network not tested.I'll Try 10.4.5 Later.

[edit] Averatec 3715EH1

AMD Sempron 1.8gHz, 512 RAM. Looks like an iBook, and almost works like one. Quad Boot OsX, Windows Xp, SuSe Linux 10.1, and CentOs 4.3. Used the guide at http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Multibooting, and it worked very well. Had to manually edit Menu.lst in CentOS to get SuSe 10.1 up and running, as well as the entry for OsX. I had to add the line- Makeactive to avoid the 'HFS+ Partition Error.'

OsX installed natively from macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso, took about 20-30 minutes for OsX install. Other operating systems installed per the guide in a reasonable time frame.

Cd player, screensaver and identification of Windows Xp partition work in OsX. The sound is very quiet, and sound quaility is fairly poor. USB works great, identifies my RAZR v3 phone through iSync, USB thumb drives and usb floppy drives. Native display looks better than Windows Xp.

Had to download iTunes and Quicktime in Windows and renew the files in OsX because of 'subscription expiration' issues.

No LAN or wireless whatsoever. OsX does not identify the hardware. PCMCIA does not seem to identify either.

System is stable. No panics. I havent played with it much, though.

[edit] BenQ Joybook 5000

Pentium M 1.3GHz SSE2, 512MB, Mobility Radeon 9000 Followed "Install on a Partition, Simple and Accurate" Dual boot. Works - trackpad, 1024x768, battery meter. Doesn't work - wireless & sound. Haven't tested - USB, Firewire or ethernet. Sorry wrong entry, only tested with 10.4.1 using DD from Windows to HFS+ af partition

[edit] Compaq Presario 2805 EA

Pentium-M 1.4 Ghz SSE2, 512MB, Radeon 7500 Mobility 32Mb

[edit] Dell Inspiron 1100

P4 2.0 ghz (SSE2 only, PAE), 1 Gig ram, Intel 845GL, Onboard AC97 sound, 60GB HD, Intel Extreme Graphics

Native install works fine using Maxxuss' DVD patch 1.1. Needed to manually install AppleAC97Audio.kext to get audio working. I lost QE for my graphics. I believe under 10.4.1, AppleIntel830.* files provided that support.

Celeron 1.99Ghz, SSE2, PAE no NX. 512 MB ram, Intel 845GL, AC97, 40GB HD, Intel Extreme Graphics

Used Wesley patch on build 8F1111, had some "You need to restart your computer problems", fixed that by upgrading to 8F1111A/G and then installing Maxxuss' 4.2 patch which fixed everything. Where the hell would we be without Maxxuss?? For me AppleAC97Audio.kext was provided in the Wesley patch. Huge improvement, iMovie can capture video and loads very fast, also native iTunes is great. I kinda miss the native iPhoto, I should have saved it from my 10.4.1 install... -plasm :)

P4 2.2 with 845 GL and Intel Extreme graphics! It took me DAYS to figure out how to edit the Video Ram in the BIOS, its listed on page 1 but you can't edit it there, it has to be edited on Page 3(UMA) ! duhhhh ! So I changed it as per someones elses instructions in the 10.4.1 page from 1 meg to 8 and VOILA !  :-)))))) Using OSX86 10.4.3 build 8f1111a + JaS patch 4.2b. I havn't played with it yet....I was JUST SO EXCITED TO SEE THE VIDEO go from 'darkness to light ' ;-) (800x600 unreadble to Beautiful full screen 1024x768!  :-)

[edit] Dell Inspiron 1150

Celeron 2.4Ghz (SSE2), 512Mb, Intel Extreme graphics, 40Gb disk

Not too different from the Inspiron 1100 but I thought I'd spell out the changes.

-If your getting a grayscale and unreadable screen, then it may be a shared video memory problem. Be sure to have it set to 8MB in your BIOS.

- Removed the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel915.kext and edited the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel830.kext Plist.info file (as described elsewhere) to change the Device ID references to 3582. Before this the system would boot in 800x600 grayscale and was largely unreadable.

- Forced to always boot with ACPI disabled by editing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and adding "platform=X86PC" to the kernel flags key.

The Centrino 2200BG mini-pci card I fitted myself is not usable. Sound works but there is no info in the System Profiler for it. Broadcom 4400 network interface works.

It crashes with 100% of the time when accessing the 'International' control panel in the System Preferences application. Some other applications are a little unstable, notably the Terminal but I'm not sure if that's my hardware or the tiger-x86 image I used.

[edit] Dell Inspiron 1300 (B130)

Celeron M 1.5GHz, 256mb RAM, GMA 900

Dual boot WinXP Home and OS X using chain0

Running 10.4.3. Installed off of patched 8f1111 DVD

QE and CI with dongle on VGA port. QE 2D available by enabling through Quartz Debug.

Wired ethernet.

Dell 1370 (Wireless) now functional as 14e4,4318.

ACPI battery and power monitoring functional using PowerManagement.bundle fix

Currently using USB C-media device for audio

No sound - SigmaTel Device/Vendor IDs: 8384, 7690

[edit] Dell Inspiron 300m

Pentium-M 1.2 Ghz Pentium M Celeron, SSE2, 632MB, Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphic Controller

Removed hard drive and did Native Install using Wesley's patch; replace HD and OS X booted right up. Sound works. Onboard Broadcom NIC working. Display in 1024x768 mode. ACPI seem to be working, but there is no battery status. Dell Truemobile Bluetooth Module works properly. Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG is not recognized.

[edit] Dell Inspiron 5100

P4 2.66 ghz (SSE2 only, PAE), 512mb DDR ram, ATI Radeon Mobility 7500, onboard AC97 sound, 30GB hd,

Native install works fine by replacing the mach_kernel with the "new" maxxuss mach_kernel.test .Make sure when burning to change mach_kernel.test to mach_kernel. DVD Player plays encrypted and non-encrypted dvds, although has some decoding errors, VideoLanClient plays DVDs fine, without QE/CI.

USER 2

Dell Truemobile 1400 wireless card working after applying IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.4 to /System/Library/Extensions/. See thread entry on how to do this here (note: hardware ID 4324 was already included in IO80211Family.kext, so I didn't even have to edit any files)

[edit] Dell Inspiron 5150

P4 3.2 ghz, 512M 333-mhz DDR RAM, GeForce 5200Go, 40G Hdd

10.4.4 install using the patched install DVD works fine with following exceptions:

1. had to add "Graphics Mode"="1600x1200x32" to get higher than SVGA res, though it stays at 1280x1024x32 2. Onboard broadcom 440 wired ethernet non functional; the kext for it appears to be ppc only. 3. Intel 2200BG does not work (didn't really expect it to) 4. Some of the high-end gfx are crappy (like running flurry as a screensaver, very low fps)

** How did you get around the problem of the hard drive coming up as the slave device? I am stuck at "Still waiting for root device"

[edit] Dell Inspiron 5160

P4 2.8G SSE/SSE3, 512M DDR RAM, XGI VOLARI, 30G Hdd

10.4.3 install using the JAS patched install DVD works fine with following exceptions:

1. Added "Graphics Mode"="1440x1050x32" to run in native resolution mode. 2. Ethernet & Wireless Network both work. 3. Now and then applications exit on their own. Completely random. 4. Audio skips all the time even with no programs running. 5. Some of the high-end gfx are crappy (like running flurry as a screensaver, very low fps)

P4 3.06 with Hyper threading 512 DDR, geforce 5200, 100 gig hd, dell 1350 wireless, bios version A08. Installed 10.4.5 universally patched for sse2/sse3, AMD, I belive it was all maxxus patches.

1. Video recognized as vesa 3.0, installed macvidia beta driver and is working, post install once in a while the system will hang when going from text based darwin boot to graphical osx boot. Runs @ 1400x1050x32 without issue now. 2. Audio works, hiccups and pauses, fixed by turning off hyperthreading in the bios (doesnt not show up in the system profiler) 3. Wireless working with changes to the kext, found information in the forum. 4. System became much more stable once hyperthreading was turned off. before apps would crash all the time now almost never.

[edit] Dell Inspiron 600m

Pentium M 1.6 (533Mhz, no NX/XD, with SSE2), 1 GB Ram

Installed 8F1099 with Maxxuss ISO patcher v1.1a. 1400x1050 video works after deleting ATI kexts, external ubs mouse works (which did not under 10.4.1), audio works. Broadcom 570x Ethernet does not work. OS X sees the card, but always thinks the cable is unplugged. Ethernet previously worked under 10.4.1. Dell Wireless 1450 not recognized, but oddly was recognized at the tail end of the install. It even showed me a list of SSIDs and asked which one to use.

[edit] Dell Inspiron 600m

Pentium M 1.8, SSE2, 512MB

OS X 10.4.1 installed after maxxuss patches applied. Broadcom 570x ethernet worked properly, along with external USB, and audio! Only thing that did not work was the Intel 2915ABG wireless NIC 7444

Pentium M 1.6(dothan) 400fsb, SSE2, 384MB

Os x86 10.4.3 8f1099 with maxxuss patch ( dvd-iso ver_1.1a ) works great. Ethernet(Broadcom 570x) working with patch(link below), USB devices (such as Ps/2 keyboard and mouse on USB adapter) work great as well (did not under Os 10.4.1). Installed on second partition, dual booting with XP (chain0).

Update: AnotherUser the boardcom 570x ethernet card can work if you follow the instructions in the following thread

http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=4987&hl=Broadcom%20570x&st=20

[edit] Dell Inspiron 600m

Pentium M 1.6Ghz (533Mhz, No NX/XD, SSE2 Present) 768Mb RAM ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility

Used JaS ISO patcher for 10.4.3 8F111 DTK DVD. Native install works fine. Currently installed build is 10.4.3 8F111A/G

BCM5701 NIC Not working initially but now working fine with kext from here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=5956&hl=bcm

Battery Meter and ACPI Support not present initially but working with the modified PowerManagement.bundle from here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=2237&hl=powermanagement

USB Ports Initially not working, works after removing AppleFPMemDriver.kext from the Extensions folder

ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility Have drivers loaded but no QE/CI support, OpenGL apps crashes. Already using Maxxuss' SSE2 patched drivers. At least the OS detects the card and loads everything okay. Take out ATIRadeon8500GLDriver.bundle from Extensions and OpenGL apps will fall back on software rendering and not crash.

Screen resolution Obtainable up to 1400x1050 using the Graphics Mode string in com.apple.Boot.plist

Audio: Sigmatel AC'97 Works great, hardware buttons works too!

Broadcom v.92 Modem Not working, not surprising either for a softmodem.

HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N Combo Drive Works great as well, burning and all. Even works in Toast 7.

ALPS trackpad Has no tapping and no 'absolute' features like edge scrolling etc.. Installing the kext found in one of the ALPS development threads disables keyboard and trackpad. Have to manually remove the kexts. Tapping can be restored by trashing ApplePS2Trackpad.kext in the ApplePS2Controller.kext and rebooting.

Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Not working, ordered a Dell TrueMobile 1450 a/b/g card, will update on that. UPDATE: The Dell TrueMobile 1450 MiniPCI card works out of the box with the IO80211Family.kext from 8F1099 here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=4641&st=120

PC Card Slot works fine, just no drivers for the smartcard slot, don't think there'll be any also.

Battery life is decent, about 2 hours of normal use. Infrared not working, not suprising either. Lid closing still doesn't switch off LCD screen so sleep mode still quite useless.

Notes/Comments: This build is excellent, with the supplied patches, everything runs at lightning speed, even Rosetta emulated apps are very close to the real thing. Previously ran on 10.4.1 and it was usable but noticeably laggy somewhat. Now it feels faster than a real PowerBook sans graphics acceleration. Recommended build to use!

Pentium M 1.83 (Dothan, NX, SSE2) with MCX051-A02 bios, Sigmatel 92XX HD Audio?, Intel GMA900, 1Gb DDR2 ram, 100 Gb HDD, DVD Burner (Multiformat), PCI Express.

Burned 10.4.3 8f1111 with JAS 4.2b patch. Installed in Native Mode, dual boot with WinXP. Works, except Audio.

- Installation requires external monitor/LCD plugged into VGA port as installation treats notebook LCD monitor as secondary display while external display as primary display.
- Once installation completes, upon next reboot, apple reboot warning appears. Resolved by disabling speedstep, reducing speed to 800 mhz to enter OSX.
- Installed Maxxuss Tuning Patch 1.1A and rebooted once to complete patches and rebooted again and re-enabled speedstep, OSX does not hang anymore during startup. Thanks Maxxuss!
- Rearranged displays in OSX so that menu bar appears in notebook LCD monitor. Can build a fake VGA plug to let OSX remember the menubar positioning.

Everything works, except Intel 2200BG wireless and Sigmatel 92XX HD audio and Quicktime playback. Currently attempting to get audio to work by editing AppleAC97Audio.kext. If anyone has ideas on how to get Sigmatel 92XX HD to work, please help.

Pentium M 1.5(NX,SSE2) Burned dvd did not install. Had to use "vmware" method. ATI drivers does work. Audio works after using "macgirls" patch. Wireless not supported. PCCARD working! (new! for 10.4.3) Multimedia buttons work, ACPI works, built-in ethernet works.

Pentium M 1.60 GHz
Burned 10.4.3 b8f1111 with Maxxuss SSE2 Kernel Patch 1.0b. Booted installation DVD with platform=x86pc.
- 1280x800, QE/CI works with external monitor
- audio works with macgirl's compiled audio kext
- usb works after deleting applefp~ (i forget) kext
- pcmcia card (audigy 2 zs) recognized
- bluetooth, volume up/down/mute keys, ethernet work
- wi-fi, play/pause/next/prev/stop keys don't work
- dvd burner used to work in 10.4.1 with program from patchburn.de, but program crashes osx now

Pentium 1.6 GHz IntelVGA Using macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso - 1680x1050 works !!! - Audio works - USB works - bluetooth works, volume up/down works, ethernet works - dvd burner works also - wireless works using dlink usb dwl-g122

USER 2 Using DVD Burned with 10.4.3 - 8f1099

-Installed on HDD partition creatated with Partition Magic. Dual booting with WinXP.

- Everything works except NIC, Wireless NIC, and Audio.
- Wired NIC (Broadcom 440x) is not recognised by OSx.
- Macgirls Audio kext wont install in Extentions folder. (I probably dont know how to install properly)

USER 3 Pentium 1.6 GHz (730), 128 Mb ATI Mobility X300, 2915 Intel Wireless

Using 8f1099 (deadmoo): Installed using DD.

- Works but no WLAN.

- Sound works fine.

- No Quartz or Core using WUXGA screen.

- Start up time: 33 seconds

Using 8f1111a: Converted DMG over to iso and applied Jas Generic patch.

- Works but no WLAN

- Sound works fine.

- No Quartz or Core

- Start up time: 35 seconds

- DVD player doesn't work despite Maxxuss patch.

Both:

- Won't support 1920x1200 resolution of WUXGA screen

- righteous

Turned off Speed step in BIOS, installer will hang if left on. Installed from macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso with no other install issues. Sound worked out of the box as well as sound buttons. Video loked at 1024x768, no QE or CI. Onboard wireless (Dell TrueMobile 1150) does not work.

[edit] Dell Inspiron 8600

Pentium M 1.4 (400 MHz, no PAE or NX, SSE2), 512 MB RAM, ATI Mobile Radeon 9600 Pro, 60 GB HDD, 15.4" 1680x1050 TFT panel.

  • NB: Dell Inspiron computers have Intel SpeedStep, a technology that changes the CPU frequency depending on CPU load. This does not seem to work well with OSX, and can cause kernel panics, preventing you from installing OSX and also crash the system later on. You need a patch (see http://www.win2osx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2328) that resolves the kernel panics caused by Intel SpeedStep.

Use a compatible computer to install to an external USB hard drive. Then copy the partition to the laptop's drive (by the way it also runs fine off the USB hard drive, as opposed to certain other computers like Dell Dimension 4600).

Network card works, Core Image and Quartz Extreme works (some cursor glitches). Don't use slideshow fx in iPhoto as this will destroy your mouse cursor until you reboot. Basically all ATI problems are present, mainly no widescreen resolutions (max is 1280x1024). Wireless is not working out of the box (did not try to make it work either). Bluetooth and USB works. Sound works perfectly.

Although the CPU is quite slow the OS runs very quickly in general (Firefox 1.5 PPC takes a while to load though).

Pentium 1.8 GHz - 128MB Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro TURBO - 512MB DDR333 - 60GB 5,400 RPM HD - 4X DVD +/- RW Using macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso w/DTK patches applied. Installed off DVD, partitioned during DVD install.

-Fully Functional Parts

-- 9600 PRO Turbo has full acceleration, Quartz Extreme AFTER installing drivers
-- Audio has full functionality, including keys on laptop OUT OF BOX
-- Wired 10/100 Network Jack works OUT OF BOX
-- Bluetooth

-Mostly Functional Parts

-- Screen Display: 1600x1200 (instead of 1920x1200)
-- Screen Artifacts occasionally, probably due to SSE2 emulation, fixed with F12-F12 refresh

-Non-Functional Parts

-- Intel 2200BG Wireless Card
-- Dell Media Keys (didn't work with Window's iTunes either)

8F1099 with Maxxuss ISO patcher v1.0a
installed on Dell Precision M20 and then reinstall the hard drive on the latidute 110L. I don't know if it boot from DVD 'cause th 110l does not have one :(
All work great! fast for PM 1.6Ghz. Some initial trouble to understand that it want 2 monitor to be connected otherwise it will not boot. Now it recognize:
- internal monitor 1024x768
- external monitor dell 2005 1680 x1050
- QE QI work great on both the output
- USB perfect!
- Lan 10/100
- audio ok
It plays quicktime h264 HD (720p) movie smoothly (even if i put two halves of the window in two monitor :D )
but the greathest is... STOP work! close the monitor and like a real mac it go to suspend. Reopen it and, in less then 15 sec, all works again.

[edit] Dell Latitude C640

Pentium M 1.8GHz (SSE2), 1GB DDR RAM, MOBILE RADEON 7500.

Installed 8F1099 with Maxxuss ISO patcher v1.0a. Audio worked after installing AC97Audio kext. USB Mouse worked after removing AppleTPMACPI and AppleFPMemDriver kernel extensions. Network works fine but I can't get a Buffalo Wireless MiniPCI card to work, although it worked fine in 10.4.1

Here's another Latitude C640 config that is working quite well:

Pentium M 1.7GHz (SSE2), 512MB DDR RAM, MOBILE RADEON 7500.

Installed 8F1111 with JaS 1111a Patch v4.2b. Audio worked out of the box. I'm using a Dell Truemobile 1300 mini-pci wireless card but in order to get it going, I had to add IO80211Family.kext, which was given to me by some kind soul. The Touchpad was also working out of the box, but in order to get "tapping" going, I had to delete ApplePS2Trackpad.kext in the ApplePS2Controller.kext (and the reboot) as reported by someone else here.

I changed out my 2915 wireless card to Dell truemobile 1450, and it works great Logitech MX518 mouse forward/back web surfing works using USB Overdrive shareware binary

Everything works fine and Xbench 1.2 is 59

...stuck @ 1024x768 until macvidea driver release

Very happy user; game with XP and 3dmark5 score of 7123 Hopefully soon be able to get 1440x900 on OSX, it will be easier to use it more then

Burned 10.4.3 b8f1111 with Maxxuss SSE2 Kernel Patch 1.0b Installed via VMWare and booting native the following was tested: - USB Hub with mouse and BT dongle - BT connects to mobile and syncs :D - Builtin 3COM Ethernet works - Firewire is detected, not tested yet - AC97 sound works

Known problems: - Sleep sometimes hangs the machine

[edit] Dell Latitude D505

Pentium M 1.6GHz (400MHz bus, SSE2), 512MB DDR RAM, 855GM.

8F1099

Does not boot from the DVD - it will still hang on firewire kexts. Install was by removing HDD and installing via USB on a Dell 9100 using patched DVD with addon (mach_kernel.test). Once installed, boot from USB and remove Firewire kexts, reinsert and it boots and runs perfectly (except wireless Intel 2200BG). No problems with MiniPCI as with 10.4.1. Much faster than 10.4.1, despite no QE (as yet).

--edit 1 Added MacGirls AC97Audio kext, and sound works perfectly. Now we just need one for WLAN and it's all good.

--MrV, 26 Nov 05

8F1111

Using colin669s ppf patch. Again, hangs on Firewire kexts. There must be some way of removing these from the DVD...

Anyhow... with this patch the DVD will not boot native on my Dimension 9100 (panics), but will boot in VMWare. Tried install as below, does not work (yet), USB drive not recognised by Mac OS installer.

(Install is by adding the notebook drive as a USB device to the virtual machine (might need a couple of VM reboots to get it to stick), install, boot, remove *Firewire* kexts, reinsert into D505).

10.4.3 w/ JaS patch - Takes FOREVER to install, but runs great once you get everything settled.

1.4mhz Pentium M

AC97 audio - works without modification

Broadcom 5701 NIC - works - Needed modified AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext

Truemobile 1300 Wireless (BCM 4306) - works - Needed IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.4 - modify info.plist to include the 4306 model number

Power Meter - works - Replace PowerManagement.Bundle w/ modified bundle

Everything runs beautifully but no QE/CI on the radeon 9000 mobility - had to boot safe mode (F8 at loading darwin prompt & use -x swtich) to remove ATI* from Extensions. Video is horribly slow otherwise.

supposed to have buggy pae, but it works fine.

bios A04

10.4.3 1099:

will not boot off of the 10.4.3 1099 patched dvd. install on another machine to external usb, and dd or diskutil the image over to the internal.

i have no account on the forums, can someone please post this in the relevant thread?

xbench 1.2: 43 or so. the thing is fast as hell, given its hard drive and processor handicap.

trackpad: works

keyboard: works

hotkeys: work, bezel shows for volume, mute. does not show up for brightness.

bluetooth: works

firewire: works, will not boot from firewire

usb: works, will boot from usb

sound: out works. in not tested.

external cd: works, can boot, haven't tested burn

screen: works. qe/ci supported. to get the screen to run with the 915 driver, boot with an external monitor attached.

if there are display issues on boot. reboot with -f, that usually fixes it.

speedstep: if speedstep is enabled in bios, and in energy saver panel, the machine will lock up at random times. if i turn it off in energy saver ('processor performance: highest') it runs fine. it runs a little hotter than windows, but i think speedstep is doing something. i do not know how to see current processor speed in os x intel, so i can't know for sure.

battery: indicator works, minutes remaining works with hack. life, probably 80% of what it is in windows, or about the same as linux.

wireless: find a broadcom minipci that is supported and switch it out. (there are only like 27 screws involved in the install. heh.)

suspend: useless

works perfectly, except... the backlight on the screen does not turn back on when it wakes. and the keys for brightness control don't work after suspend. sigh.

the 'require bios password on wake' trick doesn't work. the backlight comes on, but the machine crashes.

insomnia.kext does not work. finally i just pulled out the magnet that triggers the reed switch on lid close (upper left-center of screen, another 10 or so screws).

hibernate: i don't believe hibernate is supported in 10.4.3 intel [EDIT: It does!: http://www.andrewescobar.com/archive/2005/11/11/how-to-safe-sleep-your-mac/]

ethernet: bcm5751 (i think) no driver available

compact flash: doesn't work

sd/mmc: doesn't work

modem: not tested, probably doesn't work

other problems:

the external monitor is required on every boot. so far, i have been unable to get a dummy monitor to be recognized on boot. os x recognizes the dummy if i do 'detect displays', but the bios does not. i've tried a dummy dongle with 1-6 and 2-20, and a different one with 1-6, 2-7, 3-8. both were made with direct shorts, not with resistors. neither worked.

on some reboots, the alpha channel is screwed up. makes some highlights, and some images appear in funny colors. a reboot or two will fix.

possible to lock up the machine on wake if you mess with things before it decides what if it's on battery or wall power.

safari appears to leak memory like crazy (compared to ppc) don't know if this is a bug in activity monitor, or a bug in safari or flash for intel, or just a bug in 1099 that is maybe corrected in 10.4.4. i've run the webkit nightly builds, with no improvement.

what i've tried to fix the backlight:

have tried the brightness key settings (bottom of 'keyboard shortcuts' in the keyboard control panel) they do not do anything.

i can load AppleBacklight.kext (don't know for sure if that's the name) from 10.4.4, but haven't noticed anything as a result.

have not tried the samsung q30 bios. don't want to brick my machine.

have not tried any bios other than v04. the only bios that changes the video card is A01, which is no longer available.

have not tried 8F1111 or 10.4.4, have tried 10.4.1.

have tried the 915 video drivers from 10.4.4. they boot up black, same issue as the ati drivers. but i recall they do not fix the backlight issue.

overall:

not really usable for anything besides play. unless the suspend issue is fixed.

two ways to fix the suspend issue, by fixing the brightness keys. or by fixing the backlight relight after resume.

the ps/2 driver is open source, but i think the bios drops the ball here, not the kext.

someone who really knew os x drivers or bios hacking could turn this thing into a really cool 2.5lb mac. but as it is, it's just a toy. i'm hoping the new ibooks will at least be under 4lbs.

if anyone has any luck with the backlight, please post back.

Hey, in order to get mac os x 10.4.7 up and running on your laptop monitor, you have to run in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist "1024x768x32@75"
and change in "/System/Library/Extension/AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext/Info.plist" the output for VGA instead of PCI and the PCIMatch to 2952 instead of 2852

[edit] HP Compaq nx6110

Method: Mac OSx86 build 8g1454 from Maxxuss patched OS X 10.4.5 Install DVD

Hardware: HP nx6110. Celeron M 1.4GHz, 768MB, Intel GMA915, 40GB Toshiba HD, Broadcom 440X 100 MBPS LAN, Broadcom 4311 WiFi.

Everything seems to be working! Full graphics acceleration, dual display works, VGA dongle added to avoid blue screen of death at startup, AC97 audio working, Firewire working, CD/DVD working, BroadCom 802.11g 4311 WiFi working.

Everything except WiFi was working from installation. To enable WiFi I patched this file:

/System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311/Info.plist.

{Howto: (cd = change directory ls is list directory cd.. up one directory)

open terminal in applications /utilitys navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ then type sudo pico AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist give your password and edit the file and save (you can't write this file out without being super user (this didnt quite work but after doing this :- http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=13430&view=findpost&p=110484 it did :) }

Added the third line (pci14e4,4318):

<array>
 <string>pci14e4,4311</string>
 <string>pci14e4,4312</string>
 <string>pci14e4,4318</string>
 <string>pci14e4,4324</string>

You can also enable WiFi monitor (promiscuous) mode. Add the APMonitorMode and next line:

       <key>IOKitPersonalities</key>
       <dict>
               <key>Broadcom PCI</key>
               <dict>
                       <key>APMonitorMode</key>
                       <true/>
                       <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
                       <string>com.apple.driver.AppleAirPortBrcm4311</string>

It works like a charm with KisMac.

Occasional/lesser problems: On resume the mouse freezes (maybe all USB devices). Does not detect battery ACPI profile, although the system information shows battery charge.

Triple Boot (osx86 dvd install 10.4.5) boot from osx 86 disk run disk utility partion into 3 1,3 leave blank format 2 as mac extended. install osx to this. boot xp setup disk format1 as fat32 then exit and restart xp install (e: becomes c:) next boot ubuntu 5.10 dvd install to largest free space (3) edit boot/menu.lst copy xp entry that exists already but call it osx 86 and hda 0,1 instead of 0,0 (you need ndiswrapper to enable wireless in ubuntu (check ubuntu wiki for details) having fat32 for xp gives shared space for all 3 os's. ubuntu needs multiverse adding to repository for mp3 and dvd support and dma turning on for dvd.

Keyboard, trackpad, USB, Firewire, Sound(including mute and volume control buttons) all work fine. R8139 nic doesn't work (detects cable connected, can't get ip address, System prefences crashes when you try to configure it). Modem and Broadcom WLAN(with Speedboost) are not detected.

Native install using 10.4.3 81111A JaS patched disk, no issues on install. Included AC97 codec (in the patch) worked with no modification.

Wireless works with the addition of the 10.4.4 Airport kext, better than it did in 10.4.1 actually.

The battery wasn't recognized after the install, but with the modified PowerManagement.bundle from the forums it also works perfectly.

Basically just waiting on macvidia kexts for 100% functionality, otherwise everything works great!

with macvidia beta1 works native graphics resolution on 10.4.4 and 10.4.5

[edit] HP Pavilion ZE5300

HP Pavilion ZE5300 (P4 2.66 GHz, SSE3) 512 Ram, ATI IGP Graphics card, Intel Chipset, AC97 (or soundmax) audio.

Native install fails on boot up with IOPCCard error, but VMWare install goes through smoothly. VMWare Native Install will only boot through VMWare, and not natively. Touchpad works, sound works, and network works. After identifying that the IOPCCardBridge error was due to the touchpad, you can plug in a mouse, but you still recieve another IOPCCardBridge error due to, as identified by JaS, a network card.

Ofcourse, it only operates in VMWare because of the virtual hardware. The reason why it might not boot natively could either be because of hardware support issues, or some PCCards. It has been attempted to disable the cards via the bios, but it presents no such option.

AC97 sound is an Intel-based chipset, works out of the box. No QE or CI support. OpenGL works w/ 10.4.1 + MAXXUSS TPM as with the 2367 below.

Using DVD player causes system to kernel panic (Please hold down the power button message) Cisco onboard MPI wifi (350) does not work. Onboard Intel-based Winmodem does not work.

Belkin FD57010 PCMCIA card added on, supposed to work (Ralink 2500), doesn't. Supposedly uses Broadcom chipset (XP/2K Inf), tried modified Airport2 method, doesn't work.

Onboard Ethernet works and gets an IP. Will try Lucent Wavelan/Orinoco Gold with the IOExperts shareware driver when I get it back. Java works in Safari after applying SSE3 emulation patch for SSE2.

1,5GHz Intel Pentium M, 1GB RAM (i think, i'll upgrade to 2GB, but its fine at 1GB), Ati Mobility RADEON 7500 32 MB, 1024x768x32, DVD reader&CD writer combo (works both fine) Installed Successfully with JaS 10.4.8 install DVD. LAN worked out of box, cisco aironet wifi card not supported. Changed miniPCI Cisco card with supported broadcom one from my other laptop, patched 1802 BIOS error and successfully got worked Wireless with patched kexts (IO80211...). With some usefull scripts updated to 10.4.11 and Safari 4 beta successfully. Got QE worked with Callisto and some kext fixes, but no CI at all (its not possible, to get CI on this Ati 7500 card). Sound & USB workin' out of box without problem. Mic working ok.

.. booting from USB harddisk or from internal ATA drive without problem. - sleep & speedstep not working - you can set bios, to automaticaly downgrade CPU speed to 600MHz, if laptop started on battery. (workin' quite slow, music from iTunes gets stopping and its not useable for listening on 600MHz, but for normal work its fine.) - fn buttons not work, except volume buttons, brightness and lid light - which is controlled via bios. - tv out&VGA out not tested, PCMCIA not tested, dial-up modem shouldn't work, LPT/printer not tested - recommend to all users of T40 to change miniPCI wifi card to broadcom or something like that and use Mac OS X, which is really better than Win :)

.. sorry for my quite poor english .. when i will have some time, i will make some page for it - with instructions, and needed files and scripts and will edit this page and add link :-) hope it'll help

... btw, Leopard 10.5.1 also tested (Kalyway), but no QE/CI at all (and no solution for it; this mean, that you cant play any videos at all - slowly youtube, but no avi etc. This do system completely bad, because you cant use it as primary sytem - everyone need video support i think :) ) and worse for battery - i have at idle time CPU load at ~10% (in Tiger at 1%) at 1,5GHz - that means, that your laptop will be runnning longer in Tiger

Ethernet works fine (not wireless)

Video works almost fine, no acceleration, Sometimes the animations are a little nslow and it hangs when trying to run applications like Chess, which need 3D.

Bluetooth is detected, i don't know if it works (i supose it does) PCMCIA is detected fine. It doesn't goes to sleep at all, i think it's not important anyway. USB works fine. CD works fine. No Fingerprint (obvious) No DVD playback.

[edit] IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T61

My setup:
Laptop: Lenovo T61 Widescreen
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
Video card: Nvidia Quadro NVS
Sound: Intel High Definition Audio (HD Audio compliant AD1984 sound chipset)
Wireless card: Intel 3945

There is no current mac video driver for the nvidia quadro (as of 06-28-08). Video works off of Vesa currently. A bit slow but definately useable. Sound does not work yet. Supposedly, Taruga's AppleHDAPatcher 2.0 will give you sound, but it is not available as of this writing (06/28/08). Wired and wireless ethernet does not work. You cannot use a PC Card either because there is no driver for the cardbus. I managed to get networking to work via USB, which does work. The model I use specifically is the Netgear WG111v3 . The mac driver is available here. This uses the Realtek's RTL8187 Chipset BTW.

Finally, one last thing. When I upgraded to 10.5.3, I lost control over the keyboard. If this happens to you, plug a USB keyboard and mouse and then download this file: ACPIPS2Nub.zip . Unzip and copy the folder to /System/Library/Extensions . Reboot and then mouse and keyboard should work.

Full instructions for upgrading to 10.5.3 are here: http://news.metaparadigma.de/?p=274

iDeneb 10.5.5 works mostly out of the box for my T61 Widescreen with Intel GMA X3100. Once the install completes, boot into single-user mode and delete /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA* and reboot. Then install the kexts found in this post: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t69826-200.html (read the entire post first to find the correct link).

Audio working great, Keyboard gave message that was not found at first boot, but it actually works, ATI Radeon Mobilty (7000 ?) 16MB ID'd as 128MB, no CORE but every efect works.. Intel 2100 802.11b not working, but 10/100 works fine, haven't tested the modem yet.

mouse does not work

Update from Another User: I have the same exact model laptop, using "8F1111" with Maxxuss patches, OSX 10.4.3. All internal hardware works, except for trackpoint mouse, internal wireless card and APM power management (no such things as sleep mode or hibernate). Modem NOT tested. Ethernet works fine. Keyboard works fine. Trackpad mouse works fine (but not Trackpoint mouse - laptop has 2 pointing devices). Internal Radeon 7500 graphics chip works fine, but seems to cause stability problems with Safari browser. Open GL screen saver such as "flurry" will cause the laptop to crash. Both problems fixed IF you enable Open GL support. Keep the ATIRadeon.kext from 10.4.3, but replace ATIRadeonGLDriver.bundle, OpenGL and OpenAL framework folders with versions from 10.4.1 This is an older and slower video chipset, so do expect some lagging especially when playing DVD discs in anything other than a small window in the VLC player. THIS LAPTOP CAN BOOT FROM AN EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE :-). You can setup an external 2.5 inch hard drive with OSX and boot from it. Works GREAT! No need to use the internal hard drive for OSX - can keep windows xp on the internal drive.

Update from a third user: I have the Thinkpad R40 Type 2681-HTG and on this one everything works except ethernet, wlan and trackpoint.

Bluetooth and USB working 100%, Graphics adapter recognized as X600 @darwin, in Mac OS X works, but no CI & QE, hard set 1400x1050 in com.apple.Boot.plist works. Networking does not work (Broadcom NeXtreme Gigabit Ethernet, BCM5751M, VEN 14E4, DEV 167D) WLAN does not work (Intel Pro Wireless 2915abg) Sound works fine DVD-Burner after PatchBurn - patch... working No battery-icon, no speedstep

[edit] Medion MD 2894

Native Install from a patched OSx86 10.4.3 build 8f1111a worked fine. Took a long time to install, halted during the first try, but got through after that. Everything works except the network, haven't tested sound. But the main problem is that it halts if you leave it idle for a while and spontanous halts during usage. The performance isn't anything to brag about either. The visuals should absolute be set to a minimum to get the "best" out of this computer while operating OSx86.

Medion MD95675

Dual boot Xp/ Deadmoo Imge + Maxxuss 0.5 patch. Everything works fine, speed is not too shabby either. Sound works, Ethernet works, only thing not working is Wireless, but that will come with time ( Winbond chipset ). Edited AppleIntel....Kexts to improve display - not too bad. Will be trying the Parallels approach next to have both OS' on the same desktop.

working with jas patch, didn't try without it. keyboard and touchpad don't work (also tried with the ApplePS2Controller.kext with no luck), some troubles during the installation with external usb mouse (I have to connect it after the darwin boot loader to get it working) and installation very very very slow. But the OS runs quite well and quite fast, Touch screen working well and intel pro lan working too, sound it's working, centrino intel pro wireless doesn't work.

AMD64 3400+ (SSE2, NX), 1024MB, VIA Motherboard, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128, AC'97 sound w/macgirl's kext or Maxxuss 1.1a patch. Use Maxuss mach_kernel.sse2

Use Maxxusss patch 1.1a and everything will work (except atheros wireless). So far no stability issues. This is a much better build and all the animations are now smooth. Native Install 8f1099 + Maxxuss 1.1a

Power management for AMD does not work so the notebook will be loud while it tries to stay cool. Heat is not an issue, but you can expect this to severely limit battery lofe on this system.

Intel® Celeron® M processor 1400MHz, 256MB OSX 10.4.3 f1099 with Maxxuss's patches etc. works extremely well. The only thing that the system lacks is support for the integrated pci card reader, but the ethernet and phone modem still work.

OSX 10.4.3 and 10.4.4 installed well. Everything works except PCMCIA/Cardbus socket. If anyone has it working, please edit and leave your information on this wiki.

AC97 sound works with MacGirl hacked kext. After some hacking, the internal LCD display works in natural 1280x800, and extended desktop on 2nd display also works, both screens have Quartz Extreme & Core Image active. Display is sometimes a bit instable though. WiFi does not work at all(Atheros chipset). Check my tutorial for full display compatibility.

Celeron M370 1.5GHz (SSE2), 512MB, ATI IXP chipset

WiFi is supported (Atheros chipset) throught madwifi driver. Sound works fine. Accelerated video can be achieved with fglrx driver from ati. Also 1280x800 nominal resolution can be setted up. There are still problems with suspend and this driver. This combination simply doesn't work. Everything else also seems to work ok, though.

OSX 10.4.3 f1111 with SSE3 emulation is still unstable. There is no QE nor CI. Sound works. It looks slower than previous versions. Som apps crash (itunes and others). No ACPI and no power saving.

OSX 10.4.3 f1099 is running well with the Maxxuss DVD patch 1.1b. Sound works but no QE nor CI. Network is working. Wifi USB Belkin is working using the drivers fos OSX 10.4.X. No problems with any app except Skype untill now. ACPI is not working. There is not energy saving control. It seems than the OS doesnt know that it is a laptop.

I installed 10.4.3 (build 8F1111) from the dvd image with patched kernel, the first time I installed it i got a lot of kernel panic in the boot proccess, but the second time it started correctly.

Then I got a lot of kernel panics doing nothing.

I updated 8F1111 to 8F1111A with Maxxus_SeedUpdate8F1111A from http://maxxuss.hotbox.ru/patch_8f1111a.html and then I Installed Maxxuss_Tuning.mpkg from http://maxxuss.hotbox.ru/tuning_8f1111.html and the kernel panics have desapeared.

And now I'm working with it.

[edit] Toshiba Sateliite 1905-S301

Pentium 4 2.0GHz (SSE2), Intel, AC97 sound

I used 10.4.1 with the DD method through ubuntu linux. But after Apple announced the new MacBook and iMac I purchased the iLife and iWork '06. I started working on ways to upgrade to 10.4.3 and have a full hard drive full of space for use. I then decided to try the Bootable Install DVD/CD. I downloaded it from torrent and patched it with the Jas which was ahrd to find since the servers went down, good for Google. Then I created the ISO under Windows XP MCE 05, patched it, and burned it. I then stuck it into the machine I wanted to run it on, Toshiba Satellite 10905-S301 and it said the first time, "Click any key to Install Mac OS X, or press F8 for setup utility." I pressed enter and I got the grey Apple loading screen and then the progress bar and then finally the Mac OS X installer and Disk Utility to format the hard disc for Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

After rebooting everything worked. Even DVD burner support, iLife '06 and iWork '06 were running with the installer which wouldn't work before with 10.4.1 and the software update to 10.4.3. It runs 4x as fast as before and Rosetta works with PowerPC G4 programs. Bootable DVD is the easiest of all to do and if you do it correctly, this may end up being your main machine. Now I have to consider PC with OS X x86 and XP MCE or iMac G5 with OS X and Virtual PC? Hope this helps anyone out there. Visit my site: http://www.McMACSite.com for a full article and more.

Worked for me as well through the dd method (although I did it from Windows). I also tried to install from a DVDR but it seems like the DVD-ROM drive in this is VERY weak and cannot handle it. The DVD works fine in all the PCs I've used it in. On this laptop, the DVD can get to the set up, partition, but while installing files it has an error. The platform=x86pc command is completely necessary or it runs very slowly.

I then applied the patch from the above site and everything is better than before. Animations are better (fades especially). Rosetta is decently fast. (Also, using the OS itself to edit, on Firefox which is also running on Rosetta. Absolutely usable.)

[edit] Toshiba Satellite R10

Pentium M 1.86 (SSE2), 1GB, 100GB HD, DVD-ROM Native Installation from deadmoo image - used Knoppix to boot then put the 6 gig image on my xp machine. Mapped the network share as a local drive and then used dd to write the image. When SSE2 patch was applied, itunes and safari worked great. Built in nic worked fine as did sound. It booted up without any problems and ran really fast (much faster than the bogged down xp image toshiba supplies on the recovery discs). The only things that didn't work were dvd playback, card reader, and wifi (intel 2200bg). Once driver support becomes available, I'll be making this a permanent switch.

[edit] HP ZV5000 3.0GHZ, 512MB RAM, 60GB HD

Had to install to a partition using vmware because it would nfs_boot_init error 6 everytime I tried natively, booted up (and of course screwed up my mbr so I'm using the dvd to boot) does not detect dvdrom, broadcom wireless not working and ATIIXP (AC97?) not working either other than that onboard 8139 NIC working, keyboard is working, radeon 9000 IGP recognized as VGA. Still cool and works nice and fast :D

[edit] Winbook J4, P4 1.6 Ghz G730 Model, SSE2, 1GB RAM

METHOD: Used 10.4.3 (8F1099) Generic Install DVD ISO with Maxxus 1.1a patched, burned to DVD, installed to external USB drive using VMWARE and independent/persistent drive method (took about 24 hours - USB2.0 drive but J4 model only supports USB1.1 during bootup - comparatively, installed under VMWARE emulation, it took about an hour), changed drive boot order in BIOS and booted natively to OSX on USB drive. Booted with mach_kernel.nonx option (Maxxus patch default).

Could not get this to install straight from DVD without using via VMWare (ie "boot" via VMWare then install to dedicated drive). It would hang on a bootuid message.

Had to make sure that BIOS "Legacy USB" option was enabled to use the USB drive (normally is enabled by default).

Ran Disk Utility fix permissions and then Maxxus's additional SSE3>SSE2 patches via CD after first restart.

Hardware: Intel P4 1.6 Ghz, 845 chipset, 40GB drive, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 64MB, Realtek RTL8139 Family NIC, Intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller, NEC ND-6650A DVD burner

Comments: J4's Keyboard and Trackpad would not work under OSX GUI when running natively (integrated keyboard works at Darwin/x86 prompt). Used USB mouse and keyboard (Microsoft Optical Mouse, and Creative Desktop Wireless 6000 keyboard). Wireless keyboard worked fine after running through "Identify Keyboard" dialog.

VIDEO: Mobility Radeon 7500. Modes 1024x768 (default) and 1280x1024 worked. 1400x1050 was garbled (even though it is listed as a valid mode under "?video" boot option). System Profiler only indicates display running as 16 bit mode, even after trying to override via boot option, eg. "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32". Genie effect works pretty well under 1024x768. No QE or CI support.

SOUND: Worked without any problems. Pleasantly surprised to see "Welcome" video play at the beginning with audio and animation, no lag or hiccups at all. Thought about setting up AC97 device ID, but since sound was working just fine, skipped that part.

NETWORK: Integrated Realtek Ethernet worked without a hitch (went through Belikin router in network).

OTHER: Restart computer didn't work properly (hung at blue screen). Did not try Sleep option.

Could boot OSX via USB drive, or swap drives and boot as internal IDE drive. CMOS clock gets screwed up during installation (time presented by installer was off by a few hours). Sometimes beeps occur on reboot, then battery and power line need to be removed and reinserted before it will boot up again. Had same kind of thing happen when playing around with Ubuntu and Kubuntu Live CDs. Maybe this laptop doesn't like non-XP OSes?..

UPDATE:

Able to boot up natively (yay!) by disabling Legacy USB support in BIOS (changed filesystem and OS to "Other" for good measure), and used -v -x "mach_kernel.nonx". Keyboard and touchpad still not recognized. Probably don't need the "-x" option; read in 10.4.1 HCL list for other machines that Legacy USB was supposed to be disabled.

Gives error messages about keyboard's "input stream" failure, so still needed USB kbd/mouse (works even though disabled in BIOS).

Beeps 1-3-1-3 after restarting - won't work again until power and battery removed/reinserted. Seems like a keyboard error code (Phoenix BIOS 6.0).

At the darwin loader type platform=x86pc and turn off all speed step and power saving on the laptop this made my install run way faster. at first the install was really slow to the point it hung the above made a massive difference.Using 8f1111a 10.4.3 jas patch 4.2b. will finish my post once installed.

writing this as i go here the install keeps failling for some reason all is great until it asks me to try again I am going to let it check the DVD if that helps see what happens. back in a bit.

Hey again i think its worked do not leave the utility window open and let it check the disk.50%......it keeps saying to try again aggghh

Got it I kept leaving it to install but i reckon when the screen protector kicked in it messed the install up. baby sit the install moving the window back and forth every 5 minutes.in final install stages now.

I am now typing this from osx amazing it is so good looking the trick was babysitting the install move the window every now and then. Everything works great bar the wireless. will post back if have any probs

This "beige box" notebook PC provides almost complete "out of box" support for OSX86 10.4.3. Installed from widely available image: "osx86-fully-patched-sse2-rosetta-ati.iso." Simple burn to DVD and straight forward native APPLE GUI install. At this time the only components not working are the: Intel 2200BG WIFI adapter, Intel 855GM video adapter and the AC97 analog modem. Due to the fact that the VGA device is working in basic VESA modes the DVD playback program will not load. The video is being displayed in Millions or colors and the video display is at the correct native resolution of 1024x768. ACPI 2.0 implementation is not fully supported so if the notebook tries to sleep it will "lock up." I found that this can be cleared by pushing the power button for more than 1 second but less than the 4 seconds required to cold power down. The notebook springs back to life and will operate normally. Beyond that everything worked without any problems. Windows are drawn at full speed and there is no graphical anomalies present on any portions of the display. I was able to use iTunes to download new music, listen to it in stereo as well as rip / import CD's no problem. QuickTime drew 1080i HD movie trailers onscreen without any problems.(Although they were outside of the viewable area due to size.)

Install - I only encountered 1 issue where it did not recognize my hard drive, this was fixed by using Disk Utilities and wipeing the drive. After that it took 1 hour 44 minutes to install, after install it asked for registration info and told me to reboot, I did and it works.

Post-Install - 2 Issues so far. 1st Sound doesnt work, I believe I have a realtek chipset and I have been told there are notes about this in the patches. 2nd the DVD software included with OS X does not initialize my drive, I did try installing the patch for DVD playback to no avail. For others in my situation I believe it may just be the software as my drive will read and install from DVDs jsut not play them in the software player. I suggest trying to get some 3rd party DVD playing software, that is what I will try.

Other Possible Issues - Everything else seems to be good, although I have not tried the built in flash card reader which I am guessing would be the only other issue.
