HCL 10.5.1/Desktops
From OSx86
|
This is a hardware compatibility list for 10.5.1 builds. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your desktop x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.1 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Kernels are available for most configured machines.
See the x86 software page for programs you can run without Rosetta.
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Dell, HP, etc) . .

[edit] Aspire AM5630 Q6600
- Install Method: Must Do Aitkos-r2 with r3, Both Patches!! With no Hpet SSE3.
- Need to do Disable APIC. (currently trying to find a work around. definitely for install)
- BIOS sucks I Agree but do the no hpet sse3 kernel, remove the two kexts, and netkas smbios
- Runs All four corse. type "sysctl machdep" to make sure
- Onboard LAN works out of the box. But there is a driver to make it work bettter *shrugs*
- Built in Media Reader works out of box
- Firewire works out of the box.
- Onboard video works but only 1024X768 res. Get a new card if 2400hd. I got an nvidia
- Issue with System profiler I'm going to try the new appleSMBIOS. by netkas.
- Audio works with y default. havn't played with to much else of it
- Doesn't seem to be able to play off the shelf DVD movies, It might have some goddamned DRM craps built into the DVD drive. That was what I thought at first, the DRM. But turned once I replaced the ATI HD2400 pro with a PNY Geforce 7300 gt, got that going, it plays DVDs. :) However, if you see a " ?? 10960 " error like that, it's a Leopard bug, has nothing to do with the hack.
- It might also because it's a Blue-Ray/HD DVD drive. Seems to burn fine tho. Will try to install an regular PATA DVD drive. . . .
- Don't buy this machine for OS X unless you are willing to put in a lot of work to get it going. ..
- But it's worth it. . .

[edit] Dimension 5150/E510
Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1 (upgraded to Kalyway 10.5.2 Combo) - Processor: P4 BIOS A07
- Audio: Sigmatel 9220 (needed AppleHD patcher 1.15 with available Sigmatel 9220 codec dump)
- LAN: Intel 100/VE (needed to add 0x27dc8086 to /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext/Contents/Info.plist)
(above fix for LAN only works after update to 10.5.2)
- SATA HD works. IDE DVD works fine
- Graphics ATI X300 (needed Callisto 008 with DVI output, CI Software, QE Not Supported)
- Replaced graphics with geForce 7300 LE PCI-e (NVinject 0.2.1 CL/QE OK, no graphics lag after 9.2.0 universal kernel and the stock 10.5.2 system kext update)
- How to install: Simple install with GUID partition scheme & PC_EFI GUID bootloader, no other options chosen during install!! (all adjusted post-install) . . . .
---
Installed using Kalyway 10.5.1. and applied Kalyway 10.5.2 Combo+Kernel update
Processor: Pentium 4 HT 3.00Ghz,2MB L2, BIOS A07, 2GB RAM Chipset: Intel 945G Express Audio: Sigmatel 9220 (used method above to make it work) LAN: Intel PRO/100 VE (used method above to make it work) Video: NVidia 7600GT (used NVinject newest patch) works perfectly in dual display mode SATA/IDE drives work fine. Printer: HP OfficejetPro L7680 (used manufacturer's OSX drivers)
--- During installation I unchecked all options under Customize (previously checked options made constant crashes while booting Leopard). Biggest problem was making it boot from HD. Made the partition active using fdisk in Setup Terminal window and ran Leopard using this [1] method to avoid repeating welcome video issue. Afterwards, everything was fine.

- Nvidia FX5200 AGPx8 works with NVInject from DVD with QE/CI . . . . . . . . . .
Second user
- Install Method: Kalyway
Does not work until now. Problem: Endless rebooting on install. This may be caused by the IDE controller. I tried 2 GX270 in the smallest casing, both slightly different (2,4 Ghz P4 SSE2, 2,6 Ghz SSE2 + HT), Both work fine with the 10.4.8 version. I tried also the medium sized Gx280. Result: the install DVD boots and runs leopard installer without the endless reboot (But I could not do a full install due to the lack of a spare S-ATA drive). Preliminary conclusion: The other users succesfull install on a GX270 could be because a S-ATA drive is used instead of the P-ATA drive in my case. Or the IDE controllers in the GX280 and GX270 are different (but then I can not explain that my Kalyway DVD does not run).
[edit] Optiplex GX 270

- install adaptech firewire card (worked without any extra driver)
- Video (GMA900) works (QE/CI both not work) G.M. . .

- Audio: Onboard -- Works out of the box
- LAN: Onboard Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5751 -- requires AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext & configuration of MAC address at every boot to work
- WIFI LAN: DLink DWL-520 (Seen as Atheros: 168c,3a13) requires patching IO80211Family.kext to work. Sometimes hangs the computer uppon connecting to a network.
- SATA: works fine . .
[edit] Precision 390
- Install Method: iATKOS v1.0 r2
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (1.86ghz)
- Ram: 1gb 667 Dual Channel

- Audio: Doesn't work, tried multiple patches, has Sigmatel 92xx C Major HD
- LAN: Onboard doesn't work, used compatible LAN instead (Encore gigabit LAN, from newegg.com, less than $10)
- For dual boot with XP Pro I turned off second SATA port and installed XP on first HD, then turned that one off and turned on 2nd hard drive and set it as boot drive in BIOS and
installed OS X Leopard 10.5.1 and rebooted and went into bios and turned first hard drive back on and booted into XP and put iATKOS disc back in and copied Chai0 to C:\ and edited boot.ini last entry to say C:\Chain0="OS X Leopard". Dual boot works perfect. Also didn't install any of the patches from the iATKOS disc and Video and LAN worked perfectly. Changed sleep mode in OS X because system would hang if it went to sleep, turned off. .
