HCL 10.5.5/Portables

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
OS X 10.5.5
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.5 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.5.5 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • //-laptop battery -- checked

and select nothing from network. click install and allow the disk to be checked if it hasnt already, if it says the disk needs cleaning you need to burn a different disk as the current disk is causing problems. if the second disks also finds this problem it is down to your iso, download a different one. and always burn as the slowest available speed to ensure an error free disk.

if anyone happens to get scroll zones working on the trackpad please edit my guide and include it.

  • Reboot and you should have video without using safe mode.

To fix wireless:

  • Run the Terminal, type "sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist" then type Enter. Type your password, type Enter.
  • Scroll down in the file then add a line in the "<string>" list: <string>pci14e4,4315</string>
  • Save (Control + O) and Enter, Quit (Control + X), quit Terminal.
  • The system should detect Wireless after a little while

edit - you have to use b7 kext helper to install the kext, make sure you make a copy!

To fix sound:

  • Run OSxTools
  • Install the PCI Utils and reboot
  • Select download and install drivers
  • Please choose your audio codec: Select ALC268
  • Remove everything by the audio driver
  • Download and Install
  • I still did not have audio after a reboot, because output was set to headphones. Change to speaker.

Still not working: DVD drive. Please add if you have a solution for the DVD drive.

For the DVD drive see http://board.ihackintosh.org/index.php?showtopic=1728 it worked for me, all thanks to sayagain! .

edit - the post for the dvd drive has moved, if you have a solution for the file to be hosted, I can send you the file, post on this feed to where it can be hosted and i will put the link on here

Install method: iAtkos 5i (10.5.5)

  • Booted off DVD with only -cpus=2, after install it always boots, never fails. I don't have to worry about typing anything at the boot prompt..

Dual Booting w/ Vista

  • Intel Core2Duo T8300 2.4GHz
  • NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS

Audio: Sigmatel 9205

* Works (media keys too) except for built-in mic and mute button. Line in works.
* Get the HDAPatcher 1.20 and patch with Stac9205.txt.
*Note* You place Stac9205.txt ontop of AppleHDAPatcher before you run the patcher, so that they open together as 1 thing.
* Backup /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext and unzip replacement AppleHDA.kext
* Go into Disc Utility and fix permissions.
* Reboot
  • Broadcom 40/440
  • Intel Wifi 4965 *I'm going to try to patch this with iwi4965* **update: didn't work :(. Stuck at "trying to associate"

Almost everything works after initial install (camera, media buttons, bluetooth, firewire (not tested but detected), etc).

  • I need to patch for my sound, touchpad scroll, and wireless.
  • Shutdown/Restart - you need to push the power button...

  • Processor: Intel Celeron M (1.50 GHz)
  • RAM: 1.25GB 400MHz DDR2
  • Graphics: Intel GMA 915 (64MB Shared) [partially works with kext patches and run in safe mode, see why below]

  • RAM: 4GB DDR2 667MHz
  • Graphics: Intel GMA950 Graphics
  • Display: 17" WSXGA 1440 x 900 Glossy Screen

Use the standard installation instructions: Download the image from your favorite Torrent site. It should say something like: (iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 ISO) or something like that... Burn it to a DVD, boot your computer from this DVD, format your hard drive using disk utility. NOTE: ALWAYS FORMAT YOUR DISK BEFORE INSTALLING OR IT WILL NOT BOOT!!! When you get to the final step where you click, "INSTALL", DON'T! Click "Customize". Use these settings in the customize window.

Patches:Chipset: ICHxFIX
Patches:Network:Wireless: Broadcom
Patches:Fix: ACPI-Fix
Patches:Fix: CPUs=1-Fix
Patches:Fix: PowerManagement
Video:Intel: GMA950

You should not use any more, or any less of these patches. DO NOT use the SSE3 patch, it does not let the computer sleep. If you choose to use any more Kernel additions, or patches, that is at your own discretion.

The sound does not work initially. Closing the lid does not put it to sleep. "FN + F3" sleeps the computer. Open lid to wake. Choosing shutdown or restart both shuts off the computer. Must hit power button to restart. Ethernet does not work. Never was interested in getting it working, as long as the WiFi worked. WiFi works perfect. USB works perfect. Graphics work perfect.

To get the sound working:

- Get the AppleHDAPatcher_v1.15.zip from
  http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859&hl=applehda
- Get the Sigmatel9250.txt from
  http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/sigmatel/

Drag the "Sigmatel9250.txt" file onto the HDA Patcher. The application will launch and run the scripts. When it says it is ready to restart, Restart the machine. When it starts back up, your will have audio.

Microphone does not work. Audio through speakers works, audio through headphone jack works.

Ideneb 1.3 v 10.5.5

  • Original DVD Sony Optiarc not compatible, so the first thing to do, is use another method, (external or HD Image).
  • Bios ver 1.60 setup defaults.
  • Dont touch the Kernel, use default, although 9.4 also works, in Ideneb 1.4, none of then work.
  • so you could use futures from 1.4 DVD, but after installing from version 1.3 Drivers...
  • Don´t touch the video, it´s auto recognized, if you chose de Kext for x3100, it will hang up.
  • For audio choose plane ALC 883 or ALC 888 depends of your machine, patched by Taruga won´t work
  • Chipset ICHx fixed
  • FIXes...
  • ACPI-Fix
  • Cpus=1
  • Firewire Remove
  • What works...
  • Video with acelaration, 2nd monitor but not mirror.
  • Audio internal speakers and headphones, and blue connector input, green aoutput, red null.(haven´t try digital out)
  • touchpad, full, even sroll,
  • I´ve got a working DVD writter´cause I changed the original.
  • USB WebCam out of the box.
  • Ethernet working with official drivers from realtek RTL 8168B
  • Atheros 5007EG running, this way... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t162189.html
  • PCMCIA 02Micro working this way... I dont think all these steps are nessesary( Ill be more acurate when I have time) but this is exactly what I did... 1.Exactly what says in this post... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=81036&st=500, after this it wont boot, so I replaced the original ketxs, then it didnt boot either, I boot with Ideneb 1.4 and chose the chipset driver, and FIX no firewire, restart, booted Nicely, and the PCMCIA was there,
  • I think the kick is goind to be in the firewire, since these driver seem to install Card Bus, firewire and card reader all in the same package.
  • and that´s it for the moment, there for.
  • No firewire, not 02Micro SD Disk reader.
  • I´m going to update myself, actually installing DSDT patch, everything works and without patches, just install the before drivers and that´s it, except card reader for the moment, even firewire works.

Use the PC EFI v9 bootloader. Do NOT use appledecrypt. Deselect the enablers and select the Apple SMBIOS Macbook option. Use the 9.5 fassl kernel. Choose the x86 Modified ACPI and OHR. If you don't choose the modified ACPI, your keyboard and trackpad won't work!! Then DO NOT SELECT ANY VIDEO DRIVERS!!!!!! The card in this model (ATI Mobility x1400 is not great for OS X86 and thus drivers are still in the pipeline. If you are interested in testing drivers, contact dong on the insanelymac forums) isn't great for compatability. For system, make sure you deselect speedstep. For network, select intel 100/VE

  • Graphics as mentioned are ropey. No QE or native res above 1150 as of yet.
  • Sound (surprisingly) works OOB
  • Wireless doesn't work (trying to find card model).

Notes: iAtkos and BrazilMac didn't work on this laptop. Updating to 10.5.5 (in safe mode) makes some improperly working hardware to work as it supposed to. You'll need EasyBCD boot loader if you have both Mac OS X and Vista on your laptop. Kernel Panic occurs if lappy is online and aMule is running .
