[edit] Dell

[edit] Dell Dimension 2300

  • iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6
  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo
  • Chipset Drivers: ICHx
  • Audio Drivers: not installed. Chip is AD1981B, which is supported supposedly. Will update once working.
  • Fixes and Patches: None!
  • Video: Intel GMA950

For this computer you must make sure that you do NOT upgrade your BIOS, because the newest version from Dell will kill your video support. Otherwise everything is working 100%!

[edit] Dell Dimension 3000

  • iPC 10.5.6 Universal Final
  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo Kernel
  • Chipset Drivers: LegacyAppleIntelPIIATA
  • Audio Drivers: AC97 (Use Apple Midi setup to set input to 6ch and then speakers to 3 and 6)
  • Fixes and Patches: AppleSMBIOS ToH (Fixes "About This Mac" crash), Seatbelt.Kext 10.5.5 (fixes errors mounting DMG images)

No QE/CI with on-board Intel EG2 82865G, but it works with default drivers. (1024x768 only)

[edit] Dell Dimension 4400

  • iPC 10.5.6 Universal Final
  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo Kernel
  • Chipset Drivers: LegacyAppleIntelPIIATA
  • Audio Drivers: AC97 (Sound out of black port)
  • Fixes and Patches: AppleSMBIOS ToH (Fixes "About This Mac" crash) Seatbelt.Kext 10.5.5 (fixes errors mounting DMG images)
  • Untested with onboard video, used NVIDIA FX6200 AGP 256MB, Installed with Nvinject, however didnt allow for QE/CI, deleted and installed NVKush and worked great! Full QE/CI Rotation and resolutions

The Same Setup worked for me with a FX 5200 Video card and NVinject, I had to overwrite coregraphics.framework with 10.5.5 to fix graphical artifacts but now Full QE/CI Rotation and all resolutions.

Ac97 audio didn't work correctly for me so I used a usb sound adapter.

very stable!

BIG Thanks to the original poster. .

[edit] Dell Dimension 4550

Method:

  • iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6 on stock system w/ P4 2.0 GHz, 400MHz FSB, 512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM, ADI 198x Integrated Audio, Intel 10/100 LOM integrated ethernet
  • Kernel: 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel
  • Chipset ICHxFixed
  • Audio AppleAC97Audio.kext[1] worked for onboard audio. Others might work, but I chose nothing initially and had to download and install this using OSx86Tools[2] after initial install.
  • Video NvKush
  • Fixes and Patches Seatbelt Fix; 1-CPUs Fix
  • Network Intel 10/100 PE (tested, works)

Result: Seems stable, almost everything is running great, and works pretty smoothly.

Issues:

  • No Front Row Screen goes black, ESC still works to get out of it. Probably video related. Need to upgrade to better card. EDIT: Later discovered Quartz Extreme needs to be enabled for FR to work, so you'll need a card and kexts that support it.
  • Sleep Display Doesn't Work Probably needed to install the Sleep Fix. Haven't tested this yet.

[edit] Dell Dimension 5150 / 5100

Dell 5150 10.5.6 "Working Perfect"

(please read the hundreds of other guides for how to partition and mount your drive correctly any guide for 10.5.1 - 10.5.6 [[3]] will do I prefer to use diskpart on windows partition and dual boot)

Again Please Note all of my drives including dvd are SATA which I installed after purchase if you cannot boot, consider installing a SATA dvd drive

Required Resources:

  • iPC 10.5.6 universal final Distro [4]
  • codec_Sigma9220.txt [5]
  • AppleIntel8255x.kext[6]

options to select at install Customize section for 5150:

  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo Kernel
  • Video Drivers: My e520 has the 7300LE provided by Dell DON'T INSTALL ANY DRIVERS FOR THIS GRAPHICS CARD WE WILL USE EFI STUDIO TO WRITE STRINGS IN A COUPLE OF CLICKS
  • Chipset Drivers: Intel ICHx SATA Drivers
  • Audio Drivers: Do Not install anything here we will fix audio with AppleHDAPatcher and codec_Sigma9220.txt after we have done initial install
  • Ethernet Drivers: Do not install any here (will fix with a little playing around once we are have the system installed)
  • Fixes and Paches: (included in options) Seatbelt.Kext 10.5.5 (fixes errors mounting DMG images)
  • Fixes and Paches: (included in options) in the "Apple SMBIOS Patch" section Select SMBIOSResolver
  • Applications: (included in options) I choose all but you must at least select EFI STUDIO (To enable Quartz Extreme(full graphics card support)) and AppleHDAPatcher to fix audio

Continue with installation and restart when finished make sure to push a button for options at the first textual screen on the first boot and type -v -f then push enter.

Once you have gone through all of the initial setup account etc, go to applications folder and launch EFI Studio select nVidia 7300LE 256mb and click "add device" then from the popup choose "write to com.apple.boot.plist".

Then, once written successfully, quit EFI Studio and insert the usb drive or disk that has your copy of codec_Sigma9220.txt and drag the file onto the desktop. Open finder to application folder and drag the codec_Sigma9220.txt file from the desktop on the AppleHDAPatcher app icon. Close anything you have open and reboot the system.

Once computer is restarted, open finder and navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/ and open your disk or flash drive. Drag in AppleIntel8255x.kext from the flash drive. You may get some errors, but don't worry. We will fix this right now.

Open Terminal found in applications/utilities folder and type the following

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext (press enter)

give the password (press enter)

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext (press enter)

sudo kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext (press enter)

Next, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext right click and select show package contents. A new finder window will pop up showing the package contents. Navigate to Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext .

Now, go to applications/utilities and launch "disk utility" and repair permissions on your installed partition.

Finally, go to /System/Library/ and delete (move to trash) Extensions.mkext.

Restart the computer. You should get a warning saying updating boot caches. Click OK. Wait for computer to reboot. On boot screen, press any key for options. type -v -f. You will see all of the kext (drivers) being reloaded (text flashing along the screen).

Restart for the final time. You should be good to go with 10.5.6 perfectly stable with Quartz Extreme, LAN, sleep, restart, shutdown and sound working crash free.

[edit] Dell Dimension 8300

Used iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Final PPF5

  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo Kernel
  • Partition Setup: MBR
  • Chipset Drivers: LegacyAppleIntelPIIATA
  • Video Drivers: None (Dell came with GeForce FX 5200 128MB which has QE/CI support (see below)
  • Audio Drivers: AC97 (expand OTHER category, first one is AC97)
  • Ethernet Driver: Intel PRO 100/VE
  • DSDT: Patch DSDT
  • AppleSMBIOS Patch: AppleSMBIOS ToH
  • Alternate bootloaders: Chameleon with SMBIOS/DSDT (installed Chameleon 2 RC1 pkg later)
  • Fixes and Patches: Time Machine Fix, ACPI Fix, Seatbelt.Kext 10.5.5, Shutdown/Restart Fix, (PS2 support if you need it)
  • installing FX 5200 drivers: followed Astro123 instructions found here Fx5200-install but added to it, by also installing the Fx5200 installer PKG after installing the Universal Installer in step 2 (dont forget to repair permissions, delete mkext cache aferwards).

Notes: 1) first reboot after initial install, use -f boot flag to build cache properly 2) repair permissions 3) if you install windows for dual boot and you cant get back into your iPC OSX install, boot into the iPC disk and go to terminal and set the OSX partition active again using FDISK, instructions here to set-partition-active 4) If your computer came with IDE drives, don't forget this Dell also has 2 SATA ports. I recommend using the 2 SATA ports for hard drives and the IDE for DVD drive.

  • Intel82566MM.Kext LAN Driver [8]
  • Stac9227 Audio driver (version 2). Dont forget to remove ALCInect.kext from the extensions folder [9]
  • I have the ATI X1300 pro card. Use Natit drivers here [10]
  • Be happy! . . .

[edit] Dell Dimension 9200 / XPS 410

Used iPC 1.4 (iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Final PPF5 ) Options to select at install:

  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo Kernel
  • Video Drivers: GeForce 7300LE 128meg. DON'T INSTALL ANY DRIVERS FOR THIS GRAPHICS CARD. WE WILL USE EFI STUDIO TO WRITE STRINGS IN A COUPLE OF CLICKS
  • Chipset Drivers: Intel ICHx SATA Drivers
  • Audio Drivers: Sigmatel 9227
  • Ethernet Drivers: Intel 82566MM/DC
  • Fixes and Paches: (included in options) Seatbelt.Kext 10.5.5 And USBMassStorage
  • Applications: ALL of them. EFI Studio and/or OSx86 Tools will be used to select video card. This will help with "Quartz Extreme" to be active)

To avoid the "Still waiting for root device" error after install, you'll need to modify the AppleAHCIPort.kext file. Make sure you have the following entry in it.

      <key>ICH8RAHCI</key>
	<dict>
	<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
	<string>com.apple.driver.AppleAHCIPort</string>
	<key>Chipset Name</key>
	<string>ICH8-R AHCI</string>
	<key>IOClass</key>
	<string>AppleAHCI</string>
	<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>
	<string>0x28218086 0x28228086</string>
	<key>IOProbeScore</key>
	<integer>2000</integer>
	<key>IOProviderClass</key>
	<string>IOPCIDevice</string>
	<key>Vendor Name</key>
	<string>Intel</string>
	</dict>

You may need to boot with install disk and open a terminal window to modify the file.

After you make that change, on next reboot type -v -f then push enter.

Once you have gone through all of the initial setup account etc, go to applications folder and launch EFI studio select nVidia 7300LE 128mb and click "add device" then from the popup choose "write to com.apple.boot.plist".

Then, once written successfully, quit EFI Studio and restart computer.

Once computer is restarted, go to applications, utilities and launch "Disk Utility" and repair permissions on your installed partition.

Restart once more and your good to go with 10.5.6 perfectly stable with quartz extreme, LAN, sleep, restart, shutdown and sound working crash free.

[edit] DELL DIMENSION e520: ALTERNATE METHOD 24/07/2009

I went on a final last ditch attempt before giving up after ~19 installs in a row, and it was definitely worth it!

Ok, first the specs:

  • Intel Pentium D 2.79GHz
  • Sigmatel STAC9227
  • Netgear GA311 - works out of the box (check the above post for the integrated network, it tells you which box to tick)
  • XFX Nvidia GeForce 8800GS XXX Alpha Dog ("8800GS 384mb" in EFI Studio)
  • Bios revision 2.4.0

Here's how I got it working:

Do these steps before booting the dvd.

  • Bios mode: ATA/Autodetect mode
  • Speedstep enabled (not sure if this helps, but do it to be on the safe side)
  • i don't think the other bios settings matter...

booted iPC disc with -v flag - all good.

boxes checked:

  • iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System
  • Language Translations > ALL
  • Kernels > 9.4 StageXNU kernel
  • Drivers > Chipset > Intel ICH10 SATA Support, NOT ICHx!!!!!! (huge thanks to koruptdm9 for this!)
  • Drivers > Audio > Sigmatel 9227
  • Drivers > USB Drivers > Patched USB Drivers
  • Fixes and Patches > Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5
  • Applications > EFI Studio (install this whatever gfx you gave, efi studio can handle them all)

About to update to 10.5.7, which I know works (did it yesterday, messed it up, long story) and post in HCL 10.5.7\Desktops hyperlinking back to this post.

Rebooted twice, pretty sure this one's going to hold :)

Please let me know if you can replicate these steps with the voodoo kernel, if i get round to it i'll give an update here.

[edit] Dell Precision 380

  • iPC 10.5.6 Universal Final
  • Kernel: 9.5.0 Voodoo
* You need to install seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5 for the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel or you'll crash mounting .DMG files
* Remove AppleHDA and
* Use VoodooHDA kext from preferences tar or preferences pane doesn't work.
* Some more install instructions here: http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,551.0.html
* The PCI ID is 14e4:1677, so XX is 77
  • Video: nvDarwin 256MB (3rd-party GeForce 8600GT 256MB) .

Sleep works fine, but the audio sometimes is corrupt coming out of sleep. Also, after waking up from sleep it will hang on shutdown. . .

[edit] Dell Studio 540

  • iPC 10.5.6 Universal Final
  • Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo
  • Chipset: LegacyAppleIntelPIIATA
  • Audio: Azalia Audio Package
  • CPUS=1 boot flag fix
  • LAN: Realtek R1000 Driver

You will need to do a "CPUS=1" boot flag in order to boot the install disk depending on which processor you have.

This computer had a Nvidia 9500 GT Graphics card, not the built in video. I am not sure what is needed for the built-in video chipset.

This guide was written using a Studio 540: OSX Leopard 10.5.6 Installation Guide For Complete Beginners

[edit] Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower

  • Intel G33 chipset, Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz
  • iPC 10.5.6, vanilla kernel
  • ICH10 SATA driver packaged in iPC
  • LAN: Used Realtek 8110SC-based card, detected as RTL8169 (driver included with retail Leopard)
  • Had to use IONetworkingFamily fix so "open" Terminal command would work without error message - this is the same as the Time Machine not working issue, I believe
  • Audio: ALC888 driver packaged in iPC
  • Onboard GMX3100 video works, albeit without QE/CI, and resolution limited. Added an NVIDIA 8400GS PCIe which works with QE/CI at full resolution after specifying correct NVCAP (which varies among manufacturers, even with same GPU)
  • Sleep/power-down/reboot do not work - all hang
  • Was able to update to 10.5.7 using Software Update; only had to reinstall ALC888 driver and IONetworkingFamily fix
  • Was able to subsequently update to 10.5.8 using Software Update; as before, had to reinstall ALC888 driver and IONetworkingFamily fix and all is well . .

[edit] Dell Vostro 400

  • Intel G33 chipset, Core 2 Duo 2.333 GHz
  • iPC 10.5.6, vanilla kernel
  • ICH10 SATA driver packaged in iPC
  • LAN: RTL8169 in OSX 10.5.6, Had to use 3rd party Card and Driver for OSX 10.5.7 -- Finally worked with Edimax Driver for RTL8169.
  • Audio: ALC888 driver packaged in iPC, but had to resinstall after 10.5.7
  • Did not check onboard video, but have an addon 8600GT that worked with driver through installer here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=172110
  • Sleep/power-down/reboot do not work - all hang

I'm using this for an iPhone dev machine which requires 10.5.7. Everything seems to work fine. Up and running with factory hardware + LAN card.

[edit] Dell Inspiron 530

  • Intel G33 chipset, Core 2 Duo 2.533 GHz
  • iDeneb1.4 10.5.6, vanilla kernel
  • Onboard GMX3100 video works, albeit without QE/CI, and resolution limited. Added an ATI Radeon HD 3650 PCIe which works with QE/CI. Qe needed patching using 'ATI x2000 source version 53410 plus natit for HD3650.pkg'
  • Onboard LAN not working, using D-Link DFE-520TX
  • Audio: ALC888 working
  • Power-down and Reboot work - Sleep does not work
  • ADDED external network card using standard RTL8139 chip and worked without any tweaking. This chip is used on most cheap network cards

  • Kalyway 10.5.*, vanilla kernel
  • On board sound works right out of install for some - others you need the ALC888 kext
  • reupd from wigworms link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O690UQRS (you'll need kext helper)
    • install both files included in acl888
  • no native gfx testing.
  • geforce 7300gs 256mb works with the selected ram kext - no dual mon support
  • On board intel ethernet (Intel82566/MM) card works only after installing it manually when logged in.
  • kext link> http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VDX0VSYD includes kexthelper, easy install, reboot req.
  • reboot can get stuck, sleep untested, shutdown working

[edit] Dell XPS 600

  • Use iPC 10.5.6 with the AppleNforceTEST PPF patch. It will not work with anything else. The default AppleNforceATA.kext does not recognize the Nvidia nForce4 SATA controller in this PC. This also enables you to use a SATA DVD Drive (not stranded on this PC, but hey.) as well as the IDE DVD drive that came preinstalled.
  • Nvidia nForce4 mobo. ^See above^ and make sure to tick the AppleNforceATA(Test) chipset driver during installation.
  • Intel G33 chipset, Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz works.
  • Nvidia GeForce 7800GTX SLI works using the Nvdarwin 256mb kext on the iPC distro.
  • NvIdia onboard sound works using the ACL850 kext on the iPC distro.
  • Nvidia onbaord LAN controller works using the nForceLAN driver version 62.13n from eno's topic.
  • I was unable to get my Creative X-FI working using VoodooHDA.
  • Power Down, Reboot, and Sleep work using the 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel

See http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=180236 for my guide on installation.

. . . . . .

[edit] Dell XPS 630i

  • Use iPC 10.5.6 with the AppleNforceTEST PPF patch. It's the only way it will recognize the SATA Hard drives. In my computer my SATA DVD+RW drive actually quit working, nothing to do with the install, I had to temporarily replace it with an IDE drive. It takes a few minutes longer for the install at the moment if you have the IDE drive like I do. Other than that I also replaced the NvIdia GeForce 8800GTX SLI graphics card with a 7800GTX SLI just so I didn't have to do all the patching after the install.
  • Intel G33 chipset, Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz works fine.
  • NvIdia GeForce 7800GTX SLI works using the Nvdarwin 256mb kext in the install.
  • NvIdia onboard sound works using the ACL888 kext. (Not the ACL888 [Old] or the 3rd one on the list.) Use the first ALC888 kext you see.
  • NvIdia onboard LAN controller does not work with install, so do not use any kext there.
  • I'm not 100% if all 4 cores of my processor are working correctly. I haven't found out how to check that just yet.
  • Power down and Reboot work using 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel.
  • It will not wake back up from Sleep. It will go into Sleep but not wake up.
  • I used the link below as a guide for my install. It's for a XPS 600 but it worked for me also.
  • Use the LAN controller in this link after the install and the LAN works fine.

See http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=180236 for the guide that I used and the LAN controller kext.

  • Also in the "About this Mac" it will show your Processor at only 1.5 Ghz. I'm not sure why yet. When I find the fix I will edit this guide. Also when you click on "More Info" it doesn't show a lot of your hardware. Also another fix that once I find I will edit.
  • Hope this helps someone like it did me.

[edit] HP Slimline s5120f

Using iPC 10.5.6 Universal PPF5

  • AMD Athlon X2 7750 2.7GHz
  • 4GB DDR2 800
  • NForce LAN (OnBoard)
  • USB2.0
  • NForce 430 Chipset Mother Board Pegatron M2N68-LA
  • GeForce 6150 SE Integrated Card
  • HP USB keyboard
  • HP USB optical mouse (USB)
  • Audio (On Board)
  • DVD Writer

Use The Following Setup while installing:

  • IPC Bases System
  • Kernel - 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel
  • Video - Natit
  • Chipset - AppleNForceATA Test by mDevil
  • Sound - (Other)- Azalia Audio
  • Network - Nforce Ethernet driver or nForce Lan driver
  • Fixes: SeatBelt Fix

After Install, Remove natit.kext file and the display scrolling bug will go away. Display works with QE disabled. Updated safari, itunes. Change Resolution with Boot Option "Graphics Modes". System works with random kernel crash (After 2-3hours) for reasons unknown.

[edit] HP Pavilion 503n

Using iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 Hardware Specs:

  • Celeron 1.7Ghz cpu SSE2
  • 640mb DDR
  • Realtek 3189 LAN
  • USB2.0
  • ICH4 southbridge
  • 865GL Intel Northbridge with 8mb of Integrated Video.
    • Had to actually install the OS using a Optiplex GX270 using the drivers I would need because for some reason the installation CD wouldn't boot on this hardware, but will run, I'm posting with it.

Drivers/Kexts Needed:

  • AC'97 Sound
  • RTL1000 LAN
  • ICHx Fix
  • Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel (for the SSE2 Celeron)
  • Seatbelt.kext
  • Intel 900 Video (it will work with the 865GL's)
  • OSX86 tools and Kext Helper (to install the correct driver for LAN later)

Simply check these off on the customize menu and install to the drive after using disk utility to format it to Mac OS Journaled, name it whatever. Sit with it through the whole install then at the end restart but shutoff the installation computer during BIOS. Take drive to the HP 503n and boot it. May need -f or -v flag to boot for first time. Go to the link in the HP Pavilion t390.nl post below and download the AppleRTL3189 kext/zip file, you may want to do this on another computer as your lan will be capped at 25-32kbs for right now. Unzip it and use the Kext Helper to install the kext. Reboot. Runs similarly to some of the 1.8-2.0ghz G5's I've used. Everything so far works....except sleep, computer seems to make it to sleep but won't wake back up. Also as others have said try to keep the USB devices to a minimum during boot up for a faster boot.

[edit] HP Pavilion a1250n

Stock System is using Visiontek ATI x1300 XGL PCIe Graphics card, and using Griffon iMic for audio. The motherboard is a MSI MS-7184

Installation DVD: XxX_x86_10.5.6_Install_Disc_Universal_Final

Installing:

  • Boot up install DVD (It took ~7 minutes to load for me, long pauses of seemingly no activity are okay)
  • Open Disk Utility and partition the drive as HFS+ (Journaled). Name it whatever you want. MAKE SURE TO USE MBR PARTITION LAYOUT!!
  • Continue with Install until your reach Customize.
  • Select the following items: Chameleon Bootloader, Voodoo 9.5.0 (AMD/Intel), ATI_SB4x0_ATA_AnV (Located under Chipset), PCGeneric Realtek8139 Ethernet, HDAEnabler. If you are using the x1300, enable "x1300 Natit" under ATI. No other patches or kexts.
  • Continue with installation, this will take awhile.
  • It should work now!

It may take a few reboots to work, DO NOT have random USB devices plugged in, and that increased boot time from ~1 minutes, to ~5 minutes!! Plug these devices in after boot. DO NOT try sleep, it only goes into a half sleep, and I had to UNPLUG the computer to fix it. I haven't tried the built in audio, maybe you can make it work. Never Tried PS/2 connections.

Overall works very well, stable, and fast, just be careful of software updates, as this machine uses an AMD processor. Everything else works as expected.

[edit] HP Pavilion a1640n

Stock system has been upgraded with an extra hard drive, RAM to 4GB and a Gigabyte ATI X1650 Pro PCIe video card, under XP MCE. Core 2 Duo E6300 CPU, Intel G965 chipset, Realtek ALC885 audio, Intel 82562V LAN.

Installation DVD: iDeneb 1.4 OSX 10.5.6

Preliminary Steps:

  • HP (Asus P5BW-LA) m/b BIOS update to 3.17
  • set SATA mode to AHCI in Advanced BIOS settings
  • Modified HP TSST TS-H653L DVDRW firmware to Samsung SH-S183L firmware for better reading of disks.
  • Boot up on Installation DVD.
  • Select target disk in Utilities menu->Disk Utility
  • Select partition and change scheme to 1-partition, select MBR Option and format to Mac HFS Journaled, label "Leopard" (or whatever)
  • Do NOT use "case-sensitive" format, or else you will have "boot1: error" messages
  • Quit disk utility

Continue with install and select Customize button after selecting "Leopard” target partition for the installation.

Select ALC_885 audio, Intel ICHx chipset, ATI X16xx device_ID video, Intel82566MM networking and all applications. Did not install any fixes or patches.

Installation went smoothly.

Setup Dual-boot on XP with copy of chain0 (found in /usr/standalone/i386) to root of XP C:\ drive. Modified boot.ini, appending "c:\chain0=OSX Leopard". Note that system has 2 SATA HDDs. For dual-boot with Vista use BCDEdit utility EasyBCD.

If problematic, you can reinstall the chameleon boot loader on the selected bootable OSX partition: In Applications->Utilities->Terminal enter:

sudo -s

{your admin password}

cd /usr/standalone/i386

diskutil list

{check the listing for your bootable OSX installation diskXsY, X and Y values used below..}

fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdiskX

dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsY

cp boot /

You may have to use OSX86Tools to reset permissions, cache, etc.. before rebooting!

Appears to boot up with Vanilla 9.6 kernel very nicely with everything working and applied all software updates and security patches to date

[edit] HP Pavilion m8000n

Stock system has been upgraded with a BFG 9600 GT, RAM to 4GB and a Dynex wireless-g pci card. AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ CPU, Asus M2N68-LA motherboard, Realtek ALC888 audio, Realtek RTL8201N LAN (have not tested, using wireless).

Installation DVD: iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal FINAL

Preliminary Steps: No preliminary steps.

Select Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel, Mdevil(sp?) nforce chipset, azalia audio, kext helper b7, Osx86 tools, and whatever other applications you want.

Installation went smoothly (approximately 10-12 minutes).

Upon booting, use kext helper to install the 10.5.5 seatbelt kext. The voodoo kernel panics upon mounting .dmgs after 10.5.6, but after using the 10.5.5 kext it runs smoothly.

For those with a 9600 GT, follow this guide [15]

Audio worked out of the box, as well as the Dynex wireless card (was recognized by airport immediately)

Using iDeneb v 1.4 Vanilla Kernel

Needed the modded IPIBL-LB BIOS v.517 icchansan over at Hackintosh.org has links to the BIOS and Flash Utility here: [16]

Once you get to the install screen select the following options:

  • Chipset: ICHxFixed
  • Sound: ALC888 (I get sound through the headphones)
  • Video: nvinject 256

Wait for it to install and you should be good to go. Of note If a monitor/TV connected directly through HDMI then your screen will go blue when you turn the monitor off then on again. This blue screen doesn't go away. The work-around is to USE the DVI port. Audio works through headphones on front panel.
