Mac OS X 10.5.6
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.6 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.5.6 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

[edit] Aspire 5315

Model: Aspire 5315 051G08Mi

Install Methods summary: Used iPC 10.5.6, Vanilla kernel + applied patches ppf 1-5 to iso from iPC website. You must apply the patches to the iso in order to get all the drivers so that your computer will work, i.e the keyboard and mouse does not work by default. (I did not select a kernel in setup, so it chose the default vanilla kernal, which works. Vodoo and XNU kernels seemed to work, but require furhter testing). Everything else worked fine during install. I did not select a kernel because the setup then uses the vanilla kernal which is not listed. I also did not select a video driver, even though GMAX3100 is compatible, the startup screen would not load when i had this driver installed.

  • BIOS Version: 1.43 (I flashed it from XP to patch the fan issues. Everything seems to be fine now)
  • BIOS setup options: Sata set to AHCI Mode
  • Processor Model: Intel Celeron
  • Speed: 1.73GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache.
  • Recognized as what in System Profiler: Intel Celeron CPU 530

Drivers:

  • Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio (10EC:0268), used ALC268 by Madtux driver (in customize packages).
  • LAN: Broadcom Netlink Fast Ethernet (14E4:1713), Not working, couldnt find driver.
  • WLAN: Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter (168C:001C), Atheros AR507EG, 40% chance of working (in customize packages).
  • Modem: HDAudio Soft data fax Modem with smart cp (14F1:2C06), Untested as I dont need it.
  • SATA & IDE: SATA worked out of the box. IDE untested.
  • Partitoned as MBR drive (So I can duel boot with XP)
  • Graphics: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family X3100 256MB (8086:2A02), did not install a video driver, default works fine. I had problems installing GMAX3100 driver
  • Quartz Extreme : Supported, all resolutions available.
  • Other Accessories (USB/FIREWIRE) : Yes
  • Power Management: PowerManagement Package (in customize packages); works great!

Fixes and Patches:

  • Keyboard: select both PS/2 Device Support fixes for keyboard and mouse, or they wont work after install
  • Also selected Shutdown/Restart Fix

SideNote, this is what got my computer to boot and startup, a lot of other packages were left untested such as different kernels, please update upon findings

Different Installation method

  • iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6
  • Patches 10.5.6 Ready
  • Audio = ALC268
  • Chipset = ICHx Fixed
  • Kernel = NONE (original kernel will be installed)
  • Network = NONE (I've tried Atheros 5007 EG) - hopeless

I've used an Edimax ew-7318usg (USB) adapter with the newest drivers from Edimax's website.

FIX:

  • Apple SMBIOS = MacBook
  • FireWire remove
  • EHCI USB Sleep Enabler
  • Battery Manager
  • Seatbelt Fix - not sure (voodoo kernel needs it anyway)
  • PowerOff Fix
  • System Utils
  • Applications
  • Additional Fonts
  • X11

Sometimes I received a gray screen with stripes at boot. I've found the solution:

When it starts for the first time press F8 at startup and enter single user mode with -s modifier

/sbin/mount -uw / to gain access to the filesystem
rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA3100* to remove faulty driver
exit

It will boot up in 1024x768 default mode. Install the fixed 10.5.6 intel gma x3100 drivers [1]. Perfect Notebook for OSX.

[edit] Acer Aspire 5517-1643

AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core TK-42 @ 1.6ghz

ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (Install the RadeonHD series kext from the web, but no aceleration)

3GB RAM

Broadcom 802.11g [LAN] Network (Install Broadcom packages from the web)

Atheros AR813C Wireless (Install Atheros packages from the web)

Realtek ALC272 Audio (Working! VoodooHDA 2.2 DOES enable sound, however, it's crackling, snapping, and popping unless the mouse is being moved, fixed by puttin the idlehalt=0 boot flag in com.apple.boot.plist)

Trackpad/Mouse - Working out of box.

Battery Meter - Not working out of box. (There is a fix for this that works, but I can't remember which it was. I applied it after I had already done my successful install.)

Sleep/Hibernate - Not working out of box. (Turned sleep off in system preferences. Have not attempted a fix for this item yet.)

Installation Method:

Ideneb 1.6, and Snow Leopard 10.6.2 kernel: mach_kernel

Fixes/Patches: Select ApplePS2 patch, for enable mouse and keyboard

After installing, delete the cpus=1 and the arch=i386 boot flags, after deleting, your systems will start with both cpu cores without problems (dont forget to add the idlehalt=0 to your boot flags to fix the audio)

[edit] Extensa 5220 -201G16Mi

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G55) | Kernel Version: Darwin 9.6.0 | Bootloader: Chameleon 2.0rc | Installed: Leopard Retail DVD 10.5.1 + Combo Update 10.5.6

Install method:

My install is an adaptation of Karaakeha?s tutorial [2]. This install methodworked to Acer 5620z too. I replaced my LACIE usb external hd with the laptops drive. Using my MBP I installed the Chameleon 2.0rc EFI Bootloader, my Retail DVD 10.5.1 which I had bought for my MBP (had made a DMG of it earlier) and Combo Update 10.5.6 DMG to the destination HD. Using the terminal I removed the following kexts from the install HDs System/Library/Extensions folder

  • AppleEFIRuntime.kext
  • AppleHWSensor.kext
  • AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

I manually removed these and copied replacement kexts:

  • AppleACHIPort.kext (karaakehas tutorial 10.5.6 kexts)
  • JMicronATA.kext (karaakehas tutorial 10.5.6 kexts)
  • IOACHIFamily.kext (karaakehas tutorial 10.5.6 kexts)

  • dsmos.kext (karaakehas tutorial 10.5.6 kexts)
  • AppleACPIPlatform.kext (cromatrons Acer 5220 tutorial zip [4])

I repaired the permissions in the terminal and removed the harddrive from the LACIE USB-case and put it back in the laptop. Changed the MoBo to ACHI mode from BIOS and the laptop booted up nicely. Unfortunately the laptops keyboard & mouse wasn?t detected, so I had to use USB mouse and a USB keyboard to create the user account. Then it was time to find out how to get things working.

What works:

  • Processor: Intel Celeron 550 @ 2.0GHz
  • 2Gb 800MHz DDR2 memory
  • VGA Intel GMA X3100 works (10.5.6 native)
  • 160Gb 5400RPM Sata2 HD in ACHI mode (enabled in bios)

  • Sleep indeed works - but Wake up sometimes screws up the keyboard and WIFI never restarts ( these should be fixable)
  • Firewire
  • USB
  • Bluetooth native with Cubix Tiny Bluetooth Dongle for 9€
  • Timemachine

What doesn't work

  • Sleep disables WIFI and sometimes keyboard functionality
  • Texas instruments 803c 5in1 sd-cardreader (driver should be possible to make) Chunnans fix shows the bus in System Profiler
  • LAN-fix and PCMCIA-fix disables Sleep functionality.

Notice

  • You can update everything using Apple Software Update but the Airport-updates break the WIFI so you have to do the fix again.
  • Also the 2finger scroll might break so you might have to do the fix again

[edit] Extensa 5620z

Install Method: Iatkos v5i 10.5.5 (do not forget to update the BIOS before you start!!!). IDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 works also

  • After install updated from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, and from 10.5.6 updated to 10.5.7 without problems. (While updating you need a runner who delete "AppleintelCpuPowermanagement")

Install Method: iPC (10.5.6) with stageXNU Universal Kernal, PCGenRTL8139, legacyAppleIntelPIIXATA, ac97 audio, acpi fix, cpus=1, ps/2 device support, ntfs 3-g

What works: mouse pad, audio, local network

What doesn't work wireless network, graphic card ati 9700 with no ci/qe .

[edit] Asus G51vx BestBuy

Install Method: Rebel EFI

What works: Graphics Card, All Cores of CPU, Sound, Touch Pad, Battery Meter, pretty much everything but whats on the "What doesn't work" list.

What doesn't work The tap for left-click on Touch Pad, you have to click the left-click button. Sleep Mode doesn't wake, you have to force shutdown after. At which point it won't boot Mac OS X without reinserting Rebel EFI, once you boot the partition from Rebel EFI disk (it won't have drivers so you'll need an external mouse to restart) you restart and it will boot without Rebel EFI disk with drivers. For Sound I used the VoodooHDA but everytime I boot I can hear the microphone input, and I have to turn it off manually every boot. The biggest thing that doesn't work is the WiFi! I can only access the internet by attaching an ethernet cable or tethering my jailbroken iPhone with TetherMe.

[edit] Benq JoyBook A52

First actualised using Windows XP BIOS on that laptop to version 3.0.

Note: I didn't have DVD (destroyed) so used Plop Boot Manager on 1GB pendrive (this laptop only can boot from 1GB pendrive, and not all 1GB pendrives!!!). Then I booted installator from 16GB pendrive (to make usb installator you can for example use diskutility in mac os x. Restore downloaded installator image to usb pendrive and after that install chameleon 2. If installation of chameleon stops/stucks/no progress, try other versions of chameleon). To install Plop Boot MAnager: - delete every partitions from 1 GB pendrive. In unix/mac in terminal type: sudo dd if="name and localisation of plpbt.img file" of=/dev/diskN bs=1m, where N is number of 1GB pendrive. To check N in mac os x, type in terminal: diskutil list

  • Install Method: iDeneb 10.5.6 - sleepkernel
  • Partition Scheme: Master Boot Record
  • Processor: 2x 1,87GHz 2 cores works
  • VGA: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M - not working - try Callisto kexts, because works with them on 10.6.3 iAtkos (resolution only!!! no QE)
  • Sound: AppleAzalia kext
  • LAN: works with Realtek 8139 pkg
  • Wifi: not working
  • Powermanagement: VooDoo Battery 100% works
  • USB 100% works
  • Copy from installator AppleVIAATA.kext, and repair permisions. If not: "still waiting for root device".

If You use chameleon 2, delete any kexts for ATA/SATA suppoer from /Extra/Extensions and boot with -f flag for first time.

  • ExpressCard (Never used before, and doesnt show up in system profile)
  • TV out (havent tried, but i doubt it will work as the onboard graphics is not compatible with OSX)

Problems encountered during setup

  • The Installation DVD would boot up for a few seconds then will have a problem finding the root device. to overcome this i had to boot into safe mode using -x command. It should boot up.

Problem finding root device can also be solved by using a USB DVD drive.

  • After installing i had a problem mounting .dmgs. the first thing i was installing was callisto so i thought that it may be the driver that is incompatible, but then tried to install MSN messenger and the same thing happened. the problem was that it would panic half way through mounting. to overcome this i had to go through setup again using the boot up cd but dont reinstall the OS, deselect everything and only select the "seatbelt fix" under fix. after installing and then a reboot, the problem was fixed.

All is fine now and i have accompanied OSX with a dual boot with windows vista .

[edit] Latitude D600

(This is from [25] )

WORKING:

  • WiFi (Broadcom cards only).
  • Ethernet (Broadcom 570x).
  • Sound (AC97, speakers & side jacks working).
  • Shutdown & restart.
  • Keyboard, pointing nub, and some Fn combos (mute, volume, brightness, and numpad work).
  • Trackpad (normal use and tapping).
  • Basic graphics/video (ATI Mobility Radeon 9000).
  • USB & serial ports.

NOT WORKING:

  • WiFi with Intel's 2100 card.
  • Edgescrolling on trackpad.
  • Graphics acceleration (no driver).
  • Sleep and hibernation.
  • Sleep or lock on lid close.

NOT TESTED:

  • Infrared port.
  • PCMCIA slot.
  • Mic-in jack.
  • S-Video out.

Requirements:

You'll need 1.A copy of iPC 10.5.6 Final PPF5 (the PPF1+PPF2 iso will NOT work). 2.A flash drive (for copying drivers over).

Preparation:

You'll need to download the files attached to this post onto your thumb drive. Ethernet and WiFi won't work on first boot, so a flash drive is your only way to transfer drivers.

You will also need a copy of OSx86 Tools on your flash drive to update your extensions cache. You could do it manually in the Terminal, but it's much easier this way, trust me. You can download OSx86 Tools here: [26]

Walkthrough:

1.Boot up your D600 and hit F12 at the BIOS screen.
2.Insert your iPC DVD, then select Internal CD-RW/DVD Drive.
3.Press any key to boot from the install disc.
4.When the installer loads, open the Disk Utility (at the top menu under Utilities), and format
your entire drive with Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
5.Back in the installer, choose your hard drive and click Next.
 6.Click the Customize button.
 7.Select these options:
  * iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System.
  * 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel.
  * AGPGart 2.7.1.
  * LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA.
  * AC97 Audio.
  * PowerManagement Package.
  * ACPI Fix.
  * CPUS=1 Fix.
  * IOPCMCIA Family (optional).
  * Seatbelt.kext.
  * IntelCPUPMDisabler.
  * PS/2 Keyboard Fix.
  * Patch DSDT.
 8.Click Install.
9.I'd recommend letting the disk check run here if this is your first time using this particular
disc. If you've used the same disc successfully on other PCs before, you can probably skip it.
10.After the installer finishes, reboot.
11.At the BIOS screen, hit F12 again.
12.Take out the install DVD, then pick Internal HDD.
13.Press any key to activate advanced options.
14.Type -f and hit enter.
15.Congrats, you made it through the first boot. OSX will volunteer you for its First Boot wizard now.
16.On the Internet screen, select "I'm not going to connect this computer to the Internet."
17.You can skip the Registration screen, just click Continue and click Continue again when it asks you about the unfilled fields.
18.Now it will drop you off at your desktop. Plugin your USB flash drive and unzip the D600_kexts_soren121.zip file to your desktop.
19.If you have the Broadcom BCM4306 wireless card in your D600:
  * Copy the IO80211Family.kext to /System/Library/Extensions and overwrite the one that's there.
20.Go to /System/Library/Extensions in Finder, find IONetworkingFamily.kext, right-click it and choose Show Package Contents.
21.Click on Contents.
22.Click on Plugins.
23.Copy the AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext into that Plugins folder, and overwrite if there's already one there.
24.Now go back to /System/Library/Extensions and follow Steps 21-23, only this time use ApplePS2Controller.kext.
25.Copy the ApplePS2Trackpad.kext into this Plugins folder.
26.Open OSx86 Tools and check off the "Set Extensions permissions" and the "Clear Extensions cache" checkboxes.
27.Click the Run Selected Tasks.
28.After a few seconds, it should finish. Click OK and close OSx86 Tools.
29.Reboot.
NOTE: If you're getting Voodoo/rtclock_init errors or kernel panics, enter the BIOS settings, go to page 3, and change Boot POST to Automatic. Thanks to fariono!

Burn IPC 10.5.6 to DVD, boot pc and go into BIOS, disable dual core. Boot up computer with external CD. PC will startup and load OSX setup. Video on screen will go out during bootup, connect an external monitor so computer continues to boot and display setup screen on external screen. Go to Disk Utility and create partition for MAC OS. When customizing install, select only those items you need. Select the same options as the D630 install below. After restart, run the Dell Post Installer 1.41 to fix the audio. None of the Post Installers worked for me so I used Pacifist to extract each package I wanted. Extracted Power Management, Safe Update, dual core support. Use OSX86Tools to change kernel to 9.2.0 to enable dual core support. I had a problem with the seatbelt.kext where any *.dmg files would crash the laptop. I found the updated seatbelt.kext 1.5.6 which fixed that problem. Trying to update to 10.5.7 and getting computer to awake from sleep are next steps. TBC .

[edit] Latitude D800

  • Install Method: iPC 10.5.6 Final
  • Processor: Pentium M 1.7 GHz: SpeedStep works with VoodooPower 1.2.3 & 9.5 Voodoo Kernel
  • Video: Quadro FX 700go: QE/CI/OpenGL 1.5/Resolution Switching all work with Legacy Geforce Drivers (10.5.5 Drivers), NVDarwin 128MB (or NVInjectGo .2), and 10.5.5 CoreGraphics Framework (Fixes System Preferences graphics glitch)
  • Sound: STAC 97: Audio out (Speakers and Headphones), Microphone, and Line In ALL WORK.
  • Power Management: Screen dims on power cord removal. Both Batteries recognized with VoodooBattery (Calculates each battery's time remaining. ~5 hours with both estimated by system)
  • Wireless: Dell 1470 Dual Band mini-pci: Recognized as Third Party AirPort Card. Only wireless G tested.
  • Ethernet: Broadcom 5701: Works with patched AppleBCM5701Ethernet.
  • FireWire: Recognized by the system, Not Tested.
  • PCMCIA Slot: Not Tested
  • Sleep: Does NOT work

Install Options:

  • Kernel: 9.5 Voodoo Kernel
  • Video: Laptop Display, Legacy Geforce Drivers, NVDarwin 128(or NVInjectGo .2) DO NOT SELECT AGPGart (You will boot up to a black screen)
  • Chipset: LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA (Must be selected or your machine will NOT boot)
  • Audio: AC97 Audio
  • Wireless: Broadcom Driver
  • Fixes and Patches: ACPIFix (Must be selected or you machine will NOT boot)
  • PS/2 Device Support
  • Then after installation is finished, install VoodooPower 1.23, VoodooBattery, Patched Broadcom 5701 (inside IONetworkingFamily.kext's Plugins folder), and 10.5.5 CoreGraphics.

Notes:

  • For a crappy old laptop, OS X runs pretty well. It can play a Fullscreen DVD rip over ethernet, never going above 33% CPU usage. Everything works great, but there is a slightly noticeable reaction time of the OS once VoodooPower is installed. Still, this machine works surprisingly well. The only bug is clicking System Profiler > Graphics/Displays instantly crashes the system. (fix with older IOPCIFamily probably) Bottom Line: If you want to find yourself a fun OSX86 project to work on, find an old D800 or Precision M60.

  • SATA Disk and DVD Burner on Intel ICH9 work both in AHCI and IRRT mode by using AppleAHCIPort Extended ICH8/ICH9/ICH10. IRRT works as SATA+AHCI perfectly. This kext must be load before first boot, otherwise the boot device would be found at disk"0", and local disk would not work after the second boot. Also tried AppleIntelPIIXATA ICHx which could also recognize AHCI, but no IRRT (in this mode both local disk and DVD are not recognized), and it conflicts with Extended AppleAHCIPort.
  • Intel Core2 Duo - 4 Gigs Mem all detected and working.
  • Built in Webcam detected without any additional Kext
  • Built in USB 2.0 used as boot device detected without any Kext. But some unknown transaction timeout error while waiting root device would take around 40 sec.
  • DVD Burner detected in both AHCI and IRRT with the same Kext as ICH9 mentioned above.
  • eSATA port not tested yet.
  • Intel 5300 WiFi Pro the same as 10.5.2+, still not work.
  • Touchpad the same as 10.5.2+ that only work after first wake up, and built in stick mouse fine.
  • Built in Intel 82525 Ethernet Works by using Intel8266M KEXT from 10.5.5, and could be found at iPC 10.5.6 and iDeneb DVD family.
  • Nvidia NVS Quadro 160M Video card works perfect with NVdarwine (patched EFI) from 10.5.5, Quartz Extreme working, and could even support Hardware Decoding H.264 using Plex. But NVdarwine 256M in XxX DVD doens't work. Also tried NVInjector 256m, Quartz works but OpenGL could not pass the xBench test, and both VLC and Plex have only sound but no video while playing.
  • IDT Sound card works properly by using HDAEnabler plus patched AppleHDA Kext, which could also be found at iDeneb 10.5.6. But same as 10.5.2+, output is not as good as that in Vista while playing blu-ray video and lossless music. And sometimes makes "cracked" sound in IRRT mode.
  • Laptop battery recognized by using ACPIBatteryManagement.kext in XxX DVD.
  • TPM not tested.
  • Built in Firewire not tested.
  • Memory Card not tested.
  • Secure Card Reader not tested.
  • PCMCIA Card slot not tested
  • Express Card Slot not tested
  • Later also applied the following KEXTs: SMBIOS (optional), JMicroATA with JMB360 (recommended), Intel CPUPM Disabler (recommended), LocalTime-toggler (this is not a kext, but recommended).
  • Unknown UUID error solved by using legalcy UUID Kext in XxX DVD, and hence Darwine works fine.
  • Still could not shutdown/restart after loading any NVIDIA driver kext.
  • Hibernate support not tested.
  • Time machine not fully tested yet. Seems could at least do backup without additional kexts.
  • Also tried iDeneb which always causes kernel panic. Besides, iPC 10.5.6 also boot and installed as good as XxX; just both of iDeneb and iPC failed to install boot1h to my disk1s2 (2nd partition in USB disk) and have to do it manually before first boot. Both iDeneb and iPC use too many patches secretly and hence hard to analyze what the minimal required patches are.
  • Be careful that Timeout key is not inserted into com.apple.Boot.plist. If you want to ignore cache don't forget to keep pushing F8 on the first boot.

Here are the minimal kexts

  • Base: (Disabler and Enabler KEXTs, default configuration in XxX without customization)

What works:

  • Processor: Intel Core 2 DUE P8400 @ 2.26GHz, 3M L2 Cache (Original mach kernel)
  • Audio: IDT 92HDxxx HD Audio (HDAEnable + IDT patched AppleHDA)
  • Webcam
  • Battery: 6 Cell (ACPI Battery Manager)
  • Video: nVidia Quadro NVS 160M (NVdarwine 256 + EFI)
  • Stickpoint
  • LAN: Intel 82567 Gigabit (Intel8266MM)
  • Intel Mobile Chipset with SATA on ICH9:
    • AHCI mode only: AppleIntelPIIXATA (IOATAFamily.kext)
    • AHCI/IRRT (RAID) autodetected: AppleAHCIPort Extended (AppleAHCIPort.kext)
  • Sleep
  • The touchpad of E6400 will work with great precision if use iDeneb Version 1.5 (10.5.8) with SMBIOSEFI chosen.

What doesn't work

  • WLAN: Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN
  • Touchpad (This conclusion is no longer true)
  • Shutdown/Restart (only work without NV kext)

unknown or not tested

  • Others..

The touchpad of E6400 will work with great precision if use iDeneb Version 1.5 (10.5.8) with SMBIOSEFI chosen

  • XxX OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 Rev.1b (PPF1) AMD|Intel SSE2|SSE3 / OR iAtkos v7
  • Intel Core2 Duo - 4 Gigs Mem all detected and working.
  • DVD Boots perfectly to install
  • Must use ICH9 Apple Kext on First install or won't boot on first restart (applies to XxX, not iAtkos)
  • Built in Bluetooth works but only for pre-paired devices, no Bluetooth ICON
  • USB based Bluetooth works fine and produces bluetooth icon and new pairing options
  • TPM Not detected on secure laptop
  • Built in Webcam detected without any special Kext
  • Built in Fingerprint Reader not yet detected
  • Built in Firewire Detected without any kext
  • Built in USB 2.0 detected without any Kext
  • DVD Burner detected without any Kext
  • Wireless N Works without any added Kext and reports as Airport (BCM43xx)
  • Touchpad too sensitive, but can use the built in stick mouse fine (I use a bluetooth mouse/keyboard MX5500)
  • Built in Ethernet Works after installing Intel KEXT from install DVD listed above.
  • Nvidia Quadro Video card works with NVInjector 512m - Full Accelleration, Quartz Extreme working
  • Memory card reader working
  • Secure Card Reader - hardware secure card reader not tested
  • Secure Card Reader - Wireless secure card reader not tested
  • PCMCIA Card slot not tested
  • Express Card Slot not tested
  • Sound works after installing IDT package available on iDeneb 1.4- 10.5.6 install DVD. More information and alternate download here[34]

--What Doesn't Work-- XxX:

  • Sound
  • Touchpad (touch stick works)
  • Restart / Shutdown
  • Sleep locks up

iAtkos:

  • Touchpad
  • Touch Stick
  • Sleep Mode
  • Restart is not consistent. Sometimes it locks up still.

For this Specific Dell with TPM, fingerprint Reader, Touchpad, Touch Stick, 1920x1080 screen, wireless Secure card ( rare and cool), standard secure card ( the kind you insert (common) etc. this appears to install and just run great minus the trackpad with sound and wifi and all the other devices from iAtkos distro. The speed is snappy compared to a real Mac to be sure.

  • 10.5.6 iPC final DVD (build 9G55)
  • a couple of modifications in the kernel extensions section are necessary, make sure that you do the chmod, chown, kernelextension cache and diskrepair issues:
  • it has a Intel 945GM Graphics Card, so this one is incompatible with Apple 950 and 3100 and Integrated Frame Buffer extensions - remove these files
  • needed to apply PS/2-mouse and -keyboard patches from the iPC 10.5.6 DVD (which are included, thx!) to get internal keyboard and trackpad (and trackpoint!) working, used external mouse and keyboard for installation routine, left mouse click works, however, not the middle scroll switch.
  • used AppleYukon2.kext (part of IONetworkingFamily.kext) to get Marvel 88E8055 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter running: remove secondary match in the entry of file "Info.plist" and it just works. As an alternative you can search for subvendor ID and subdevice ID using tools on Linux or Windows and enter that as secondary match. I just skipped that, primary match only just works.
  • wireless does not work out of the box, although it has an Atheros 5006EG chip which is quite similar to the hardware that Apple has used. I guess that is also an issue of subvendor or subdevice ID. Kept that as future work.
  • sleep does not work either, also future work
  • installed everything on a 8GB memory stick (painfully slow), but USB 2.0 works

[edit] Lifebook S7211

Installation method: 10.5.6 iPC X-DL DVD What DO NOT works:

  • Random crash during startup. (To go to installation screen). Sometimes having kernel panic.

Safe mode reduce such chances but I still getting 1 attempt with such screen.

  • Verbose mode do not really help.
  • Live part of DVD do NOT work, even with default RamDisk Value. (After a few seconds, I am greeted with prompt AGAIN)
  • After you have refered to "What it "works"" section, you will reliazed that it boots with a long time (10 mins or so) you will be greeted with blue screen, and "refreshed" with black screen with immediate blue and black screen. No progress since then. No panic message etc. Verbose mode will only waste your time not to appericiate the beauty of gray apple logo and result with this situation.

What it "works":

  • Normal mode is possible to see installation screen. (Despite having chance to be crashed, and have to try reboot etc and MOST importantly, this takes hell long. It is possible for me to wait for 15 mins to 30 minutes just to see the installation screen and takes about an hour to install that)

I installed using iPC 10.5.6 Final DVD Patches:

  • Intel 945GM Chipset
  • Intel GMA950 Graphics - Works perfectly, but with a square appearing near Apple logo on launch bar. Clicking it makes it disappear.
  • PS2 Keyboard & Mouse fix.

  • My LAN I can't remember, but will update soon.

Everything works perfectly, apart from my SiS163U Mini-PCI-E wireless card that comes with the laptop from the factory. I have to use a Ralink RT77 USB dongle with Mac drivers from Ralink themselves.

  • Video (Stuck in 1024x768)

The speed is generally very quick and everything seems to be working so far.. the only issue I've had aside from what simply doesn't work as mentioned above, is the fact that Safari randomly crashes in Kalyway.. but it only seems to do it if it's minimized. I believe the video situation is a loss because it's an ATI Radeon that uses shared memory and I've read that it's a problem. I'm also using Chameleon 2 with these installations.

[edit] HP 550 Notebook PC

  • Install Method: Mardurhack's Guide (thank you again man, YOU ROCK!!!) [51]
  • OS X Version: iPC 10.5.6 (then updated to 10.5.8 via apple updates)
  • Processor: HP 550 Intel Celeron M 550 2.0 GHz
  • VIDEO: Mobile Intel GMAX3100 works QE/CI Supported, Internal & External monitor
  • Ram: 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
  • Hard Disk: 160 GB 5400 rpm SATA
  • Keyboard/Trackpad working
  • Sound: working
  • Wireless: working as Airport (Broadcom 4312 802.11b/g)
  • Bluetooth: working (cheap eBay module)
  • USB, Sound Ports, Card reader, RJ-45 (Ethernet), RJ-11 (56K v.92 modem), Express Card/54, WORKING!
  • Power Management: Perfect! (3 hours or so battery), info display, fan, sleeps, shutdown, etc...
  • EVERYTHING WORKS... so stable that I have completely switched to Mac...
  • Please note that I have used Mardurhack's Guide to install my system only up 10.5.6, after that I run software update from apple to 10.5.8 and rebooted the first time with -v ... very straight forward after that.
  • Applications tested and used: iLife09, iWork09, Microsoft Office Mac, hardcore apps like iMovie, iDVD, Gargeband, Final Cut, Logic, Aperture, Lightroom, Adobe CS4 apps, and pretty much anything I have thrown in except TECHTOOL PRO. Performance is great (Just remember is still a Intel Celeron though :), those with Core Duo might have it better)
  • Notebook was purchased from HP in Europe while on vacation (if this is of any assistance), I live in the United States though, NYC.. .

[edit] HP Pavilion dv1668ea

  • Product ID: HP Pavilion dv1000 (EW490EA#ABH)
  • CPU: Intel Core Duo T2300 (Supports MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3)
  • Chipset: Intel 82950GM
  • Ram: 2GB DDR2 @ 667mhz
  • VGA: Intel GMA 945 (integrated)
  • Sound: (Intel ICH7) Conexant High Definition Audio Controller
  • Ethernet: Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection (8086:1092)
  • Wireless: Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG
  • HDD: Hitachi HTS72201 (100GB, SATA, 7200rpm)
  • Optical Drive: TSSTCorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M
  • I used iPC 10.5.6
  • Everything worked except any form of networking: The Ethernet controller didn't get detected and the wireless controller doesn't have a driver.
  • Keyboard and mouse needed the PS/2 keyboard+mouse patch to work.
  • Burning DVD's worked fine

[edit] HP Pavilion dv9702ea (AMD Series)

  • CPU: Mobile DualCore AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 (Supports x86, x86-64, MMX, 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2, SSE3)
  • Motherboard: Quanta 30DA
  • Chipset: nVIDIA MCP67
  • Ram: 2GB DDR2 @ 667mhz
  • VGA: PCI Express x16 nVIDIA NB8M-GS (G86M) - NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (256 MB)
  • Sound: Conexant @ nVIDIA MCP67 - High Definition Audio Controller
  • Network: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
  • Wireless: Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter (It's actually AR242x)

I used iDeneb v1.4 (10.5.6) with the following packages to get this laptop ALMOST fully working:

  • Alternative Essential Patch: ACPI Kext 10.5.6, PS2Fix for ACPI kext 10.5.6 (Keyboard only... not Mouse)
  • Audio: AppleAzaliaAudio
  • Chipset: MCP67
  • Kernel: Kernel 9.5.0 Voodoo
  • Ethernet: nForceEthernet
  • Wireless: Atheros Wifi Adapter (Not that it'll work!)
  • Fix: AppleSMIBIOS 667, BatteryManager, Seatbel Fix, Idlehalt fix
  • Video: NVInject 0.2.1 256mb

The only thing that's stopping me from using this laptop as a Mac is the lack of wireless. It's been driving me crazy for the last week :(

[edit] hp Pavilion dv6314tx

OSx86 Distribution: iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 (upgraded successfully to 10.5.7 without any hiccups)
Kernel: Vanilla
CPU: Intel Centrino Duo
RAM: 1 GiB (mine has 2GiB) DDR2
Chipset: Intel 945GM/Intel ICH7 family (use the ICHx family drivers)
Audio: Conexant Hidef (Mic and Headphones don't work)
Video: NVIDIA Geforce Go 7400 (128 MB; use NVDarwin 128 MB)
Ethernet: Intel VPro 100 LAN
Wireless: Intel 3945abg (not functional but detected after installing the beta drivers; the LED works; wireless networks are not found and connections cannot be made)

I chose these packages:

  • BatteryManager
  • Additional Applications excluding those for AMD machines.
  • Mass USB storage fix
  • Enabled PS/2 Keyboard (including mouse)
  • Chipset drivers (Intel ICHx family)
  • NVDarwin 128 MB
  • Conexant Hidef Audio
  • NTFS-3g NTFS Drivers
  • PCI and PCMCIA drivers.
  • USB speed enhancement patch with IO Mass Storage Fix by slice.

Hiccups:

  • My synaptics touchpad and keyboard did not work on the first attempt. After adding the USB fix and PS/2 drivers, on the second try, they worked.
  • I forgot to install the battery management programs on the first attempt. The battery indicator did not turn up. Installing them on the second attempt worked.
  • Installing OSx86 using the Mac OS Case-Sensitive, Journaled filesystem caused Adobe CS4 products to fail at installation. Adobe products do not support "Case-sensitive file systems currently". People using these products are recommended to use the filesystem "Mac OS Journaled" instead.
  • I'm using a dual-boot with Ubuntu 9.04. Ubuntu can read the Mac OS partition out of the box, but cannot write to Journaled partitions. People wanting write access will need to give up journaling. I'd prefer keeping journaling on for system maintenance, so I'm currently using an external NTFS removable drive to transfer data between both systems. Both can read from and write to NTFS (using NTFS-3g).
  • I tried the latest SVN version of iwdarwin for my wireless card. Still no go.

What does not work:

  • Synaptics trackpad does not allow tap clicking (*update* installing the synaptics driver available here fixes all the trackpad problems
  • Scrolling on the touchpad does not work.
  • Headphones (SPDIF as well) and microphone don't work.
  • My webcam works but the video input is choppy with "greenlines".
  • Card reader does not work (drivers not installed)
  • Sleep and hibernate don't work.
  • The modifier key Option is set to the Windows key. Both need to be swapped after installation.

Upgrading and Notes:

  • The latest upgrade 10.5.7 released (I used the delta that upgrades only 10.5.6 to 10.5.7) works flawlessly.
  • With an earlier installation of Tiger 10.4.8 USB devices did not hotplug. The USB fix mentioned earlier fixes this and connecting any USB device works extremely well .

[edit] hp Pavilion DV4-1000 Intel Series

I own hp Pavilion dv4-1030ee

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0 GHz
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR2
  • Chipset: Intel ICH9M
  • Audio: IDT
  • Video: 9200M GT 256 DDR2
  • Wifi: Intel WiFi Link 5100
  • Ethernet: Realtek 8168C

Installed iDeneb V1.4 10.5.6 and Retail DVD gudied for dv3500 series and worked perfectly but I have problems when plugging in USB2 devices. I installed on internal hard disk. I selected this packages:

  • Audio IDT
  • Chipset ICHx Fixed (the orange icons are also fixed)
  • RealtekR1000
  • Firewire Remove
  • IOUSBFamilyFix
  • BatteryManager
  • NVdarwin 1.2.5 for 256

Other:

  • Wireless not working
  • Bluetooth works
  • Webcam is OK
  • USB2 are not OK, it makes crashing all the time
  • Quicklaunch buttons works
  • Shutdown and restart OK

[edit] HP Pavilion dv2550se

  • Install Method: iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHz processor (working)
  • Memory: 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (working)
  • Hard Drive: 160GB Serial ATA Drive (working)
  • Optical Drive: DVD+/-RW (working)
  • Audio: Conexant High Definition Audio (output working, no input or mic in)
  • Ethernet: Marvell Yukon 88E8039 (working) -> [52]
  • Video: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (working but with no QE&CI)
  • Wireless: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (not working)
  • USB/Firewire: (both work)

Seems a little less stable than iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 as a whole. For some reason, quartz extreme does not work in this version, while it worked fine in the last version. Audio does not have input or microphone in, output works fine though. Ethernet is an easy fix, of course a wireless solution is not available for now. Had to install the PowerOff_OH for shutdowns to work (wouldn't shut down properly before).

[edit] HP EliteBook 6930p

  • Install Method: iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 @ 2.53GHz
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Hard Drive: 250GB SATA
  • Audio: AD1984A (only sound output to external headphone jack)
  • Ethernet: Intel 82567 (works)
  • Video: Mobile Intel 4 Series X4500 (do not work, use only 1024x768)
  • Wireless: Broadcom (works)

I have installed with patches selected: Audio AD1984, ICHx Fixed, Network 82566 Series, AppleSMBIOS MacBook, Battery Manager, and RT73 for USB wireless. First USB has not functioned correctly, and I installed patched AppleUSBEHCI.kext from slice's post. Removed AppleHPET.kext because interferes with USB, than it works OK. I have used ralink RT73 usb dongle for Wireless instead .

  • Wireless: Intel PRO/Wireless 5100ABG (not working)
  • Bluetooth: Broadcom, sorry model no. not known (working)
  • USB/Firewire: (both work)

[edit] HP DV5-1100 Series

I own hp dv5-1128el but I think is almost the same with all intel/nvidia dv5-1100 series.

  • Cpu: Intel p8600 2.4 ghz
  • Ram: 4gb ddr2
  • Chipset: Intel Ich9-m
  • Audio: IDT 92hd72b7 on 828011b ich9
  • Video: 9600m gt 512 ddr2 (10DE 0649)
  • Wifi: Intel 5100
  • Lan: Realtek 8168C

Installed Ideneb 1.4 10.5.6 and worked perfectly, with others distributions I have problems with usb, system profiler ecc.. I installed on an external hard disk but it works also on the internal hard disk.

I selected this packages:

  • ACPI Kext 10.5.6
  • PS2Fix Keyboard
  • Audio IDT (full working with out, in and mic)
  • Chipset ICHx Fixed (the orange icons are also fixed)
  • Kernel don't select anything, it will install the default vanilla 9.6.0
  • BatteryManager
  • PowerOff_OH ( OpenhaltRestart.kext by Pystar )
  • NVdarwin 1.2.5 for 512 (fully works, qe/ci enabled)
  • IOUSBFamily (full working usb)

Other:

  • Wireless not working
  • Lan realtek 8168C download drivers from realtek site [53] or direct link here [54]
  • Bluetooth works
  • Webcam is ok
  • Firewire is ok
  • Quicklaunch buttons works
  • Shutdown and restart ok

I have tested this setup on a dv5-1138tx and it works like a charm! Previously I tried iATKOS and Kalyway but iDeneb is the only one I could get to work with this type of laptop.

Edit : I'm using a dv5 1160ek 3gigs of ram core2duo 2ghz realtek as lan intel agn 5100

i've tried leopard and snowleopard everything works on leopard 10.5.7 exept wireless wich is not supported ( not yet ) on snowleopard i've got some usb issues if i install usb fixes ( don't instal any patches or fixes about usb ) webcam is workin with 10.6.3 ayuub ^^

[edit] HP TC4200 Tablet

  • 10.5.6 working iDeneb PERFECTLY!!!
  • Kernel select SSE2 initally, updated later via voodoo kernel in google code project
  • select fix for the DMG mount hang.
  • Ethernet I selected Apple BCM5721 works out of box
  • Wireless I selected broadcom package works out of box
  • Integrated bluetooth works out of box
  • VGA select Intel 900 GMA
  • Installed SuperHai power management speedstep kext AFTER installing voodoo kernel, speedstep working perfectly
  • Tabletmagic working perfectly - Follow instructions here
  • Audio select AC97

Overall its really a impressive tablet Mac

[edit] HP TC4200 Tablet

  • I used iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6
  • Check Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel, BC5751, GMA 900, PS2 fix keyboard, AC97 Audio, ICHx Fix, all applications, Battery Manager
  • Intalled VoodooPowerMini, Tablet Magic, and Project Camphor VoodooIntel2200 BG (use google)
  • To get WiFi working copy the keys in the iwi2200.kext[55] info.plist (use pacifist to extract the kext) to the VoodooIntel info.plist
  • Everything works except connecting to WPA WiFi Networks and Sleep takes about 20 seconds to wake up
  • I got iLife working by editing SystemVersion.plist in /System/Library/CoreServices

[edit] HP 530

  • 10.5.6 working PERFECTLY!!! All vanilla - runs and updates just like real MAC!
  • Installed using iATKOS_5i 10.5.5 - Only check x86 ACPI, Remove thermal kexts, EFI string for Intel, Intel SATA, Intel Speedstep b, and Intel Pro/100 VE. Leave all others as is. Everything works straight away.
  • Apple update to 10.5.6 and all good after.
  • Celeron M recognize as Intel Core Solo 1.47GHZ
  • Audio, Wifi, LAN, QE/CI, Touchpad, Brightness/Volume controls All work OOB (even after 10.5.6 update) using above installation.
  • USB 2.0 fully working
  • Only hiccup is no battery guage, have not pursued fix tho and could probably easily fix.
  • Blue light on Wifi button always blinks, but does not interfere with anything.
  • Have not tested sleep as I never use it. Shutdown and restart work without flaws.
  • After install you must add GenericCPUPMControl to startup apps or speedstep will not function and it will get HOT (and loud) even idle.

Overall it is extremely useable and impressively fast and stable . If you have a 530 with a Celeron 1.73 and Bios Ver F.07 Use the above instructions and then do the following.

  • Download Kext Helper b7, you will need this to properly install the kext files
  • Battery downlaod (AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext) install and reboot
  • Wireless download (bcm43xx_enabler.sh) Install and reboot
  • Display download the (GMA950.pkg) only install the frame buffer then reboot. You will now get 1280x800 millions w/ CI/QE

The above instructions are correct, but failed to mention when you choose x86ACPI you disable string installers. Also DO NOT do the upgrade to 10.5.6 just yet. if you do your track pad will no longer tap and they have a wireless problem with WEP. The 10.5.6 update will install and reboot with no problems, other than the above problems. Ignore the failed hibration file on boot or buy a real macbook pro. The Processor will show as 1.73 Unknown If, after first reboot you only see an animated cursor forever, try changing bios setting: System config->Device config->SATA native mode->Disable.

[edit] HP DV4217cl

  • iPC 10.5.6
  • 9.5 Voodoo kernel
  • Laptop Display
  • Intel GMA 900 (the name GM915 may mislead you, you must select GMA900)
  • Intel ICH 10 SATA support
  • AC '97 Audio (this is weird, as the notebook has intel hd audio, but it works)
  • RealTek R1000
  • Intel Proset/Wireless 2200
  • seatbelt.kext 10.5.5
  • PS2 Keyboard fix
  • PS2 Mouse fix
  • All Applications except Marvin's AMD Utility

ON REBOOT, press "F8" key at Darwin prompt, then type "-f" (no quotes, of course) The intel 2200b/g works if you use the Network Selector utility that is installed the Applications folder with iPC 10.5.6 however, while the utility/driver does make the card function properly (nicely done), make note that it DOES NOT support any wireless encryption (No WEP, no WPA, No WPA2, etc)

[edit] HP DV6155EA

  • iPC 10.5.6
  • OOTB:
    • vanilla, sleep, speedstepping, powermanagement,

    • battery meter
    • GeForce 7400 Go with VGA-Out, display recognition, 32-bit Colour Depth (see postning from me (siberiansun): [56] )
  • not OOTB, not working:
    • trackpad-clicking-function in trackpad preferences
    • Headphone and mic jack
    • Deep Sleep :-( Laptop just powers off with empty battery, would be great if it could go to deepsleep but normal sleep works

[edit] HP PAVILION DV8000 17"

It's the AMD Turion 64 ML32 type + the ATI x200 (200M) Chipset/Graphic/Audio Release XxX 10.5.6 Universal HW Tools to make it easy

  • Another PC with an updated BIOS
  • A IDE/USB 2,5 HD Box
  • An external DVD/USB Player

Even if there are tricks to install it directly from the Internal DVD or an external one (waiting 10 second before pressing the right device on "Boot Select" at bios) is faster if you use another PC (Darwin Friendly) to prepare your hard disk in the IDE/USB box (to avoid jumper issues/freezes on ATA disks)

Config:

  • AMD Turion 64 ML 32
  • Chipset ATI x200
  • SouthBridge SB400
  • Radeon Xpress 200M (x200) - 128MB
  • HDD Fujitsu MHV 2080H 80 GB
  • HDD (Additional) Seagate ST 9100822A 100 GB
  • DVD ATAPI Hitachi HL-DT-ST
  • WiFi/BT: Broadcom
  • Ethernet
  • AC97 Integrated
  • Synaptics Trackpad

How to Install (Choose the following pkgs/kexts)

  • Chipset ATI SB450 PATA
  • Chipset ATIATA
  • Video ATI Callisto Beta 003
  • Audio AC97ATIIXP
  • Wireless Network Broadcom Package

Everything works but:

  • Synaptics "Tap-to-click" and other advanced Apple features (I use a USB Mouse)
  • Quartz Extreme on ATI Radeon (no way, actually)
  • Some minor keyboard issues (comas instead of periods on numeric pad...I use the Italian layout)

Hope to update it with good news .

10.5.7 Update

here’s my kombat recipe to get the 10.5.7 update working properly on an AMD Turion ML 32 (HP Pavilion DV8000).

  • Got the Ideneb 10.5.7 Update Pkg somewhere google will reveal
  • Launched the Install and restarted at final. Had to hard reset, anyway, cause the restart freezed.
  • At boot I typed “voodoo” before Darwin loading (pressed F8 if no boot config file is set).
  • To avoid Kernel Panic while mounting DMGs, I replaced the new seatbelt.kext with one compatible with voodoo 9.5.0. I took advantage of Lanceomni kindness (Supermod at Infinite Mac) that provided the seatbelt.kext here [58]

[edit] HP Pavilion dv9600

Model no.: dv9660 Intel T7700 2x2.4 GHz - geforce 8600M GS 256mb

Installed: iPC 10.5.6 or iDeneb 10.5.6 (vanilla kernel preferably)

working out of box:

  • CPU (for speedstep see below)
  • SATA hard drives
  • USB
  • ethernet
  • quick buttons for volume etc.
  • media remote control

Needed work:

  • speedstep: using voodoopower kext found online (gave me wrong freq steps and wrong highest clock freq)
  • speedstep: working perfectly with GenericCPUPowermanagement.kext from iDeneb dvd.
  • firewire port: needed simple remove of standard apple kext. (option on most install dvds)
  • Geforce 8600M GS: QE/CI working with Natit, NVinject, NVkush or NVdarwin (all perfectly ok for internal display only.)
  • Nvenabler gives QE/CI AND all outputs working for extended display AND mirroring and all other options (rotation etc)
  • NvEnabler HIGHLY recommended! (at least for this system)
  • sound card ALC268 working OK with either taruga patch or ALC268 HDAenabler on install DVD.

NOT working:

  • webcam (did no effort though)
  • built-in wifi card. (intel)

Not tested: bluetooth.

In general I'd recommend using iDeneb disk for this system (more working out of box, most suitable options)

[edit] HP DV6640ew

  • southbridge: MCP65
  • GeForce 8400M GS 128 MB
  • HDD Hitachi SATA, dualboot
  • DVD Slimtype IDE
  • Wifi/Bluetooh: Broadcom

Install method:

  • iDeneb v1.4
  • -x11
  • -Essential Files
  • -acpi kext 1.0.5.6
  • -ps2/fix keyboard
  • -Appleazalia (audio)

  • -Apple SMIBIOS 667 (smibios)
  • -batterymanager (fix)
  • -setbelfix
  • -idehaltfix
  • -nvinject 128mb (video)

Don't work:

  • Fingerprint,
  • Firewire,
  • Card reader,
  • Mic internal/jack
  • After sleep HD is not wake up; system hangs up...

[edit] HP nc6120

Model no.: PN936AV Intel Pentium M 1.73GHz - 512MB DDR333 - 60GB HDD

Install Method: iPC 10.5.6 with the following options

  • Kernel - Voodoo 9.5
  • Chipset - Legacy AppleIntel PIIX ATA
  • Video - Intel GMA900
  • Audio - AC97
  • Ethernet - Apple BCM 440x
  • Wireless - Broadcom
  • PS/2 Keyboard fix

All of the above worked out of the box.

Issues:

  • .dmg mounting causing kernel panic - fixed with this: [59]
  • Bluetooth intermittent failure when receiving files
  • Keyboard set to US layout (I'm in the UK!)
  • Touchpad "tapping" not enableable
  • No battery meter

Overall I'm very impressed with the speed and performance of the system (after the 6 minute boot-up time!) Thanks and respect to icchansan @ hackint0sh - couldn't have done it without you!!! .

[edit] HP DV7-1090ed

My HP dv7 pavillion works fine with iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6! Graphic performance is perfect as well! I think it is very similar to the dv5-1100 series.

Cpu: Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 ghz
Ram: 4gb ddr2
Chipset: Intel Ich9-m
Audio: IDT
Video: 9600M GT 512 DDR2 (10DE 0649)
Wifi(!): Broadcom PCI-e 4311 card (replaced the standard Intel 5100)
Lan: Realtek 8168C

I installed on the internal hard disk (Chameleon v1.0.12 with BOOTEFI9)

  • ACPI Kext 10.5.6
  • PS2Fix Mouse
  • PS2Fix Keyboard
  • Audio IDT (full working with out, in and mic)
  • Chipset ICHx Fixed (the orange icons are also fixed)
  • Kernel don't select anything, it will install the default vanilla 9.6.0
  • BatteryManager
  • NVdarwin 1.2.5 for 512 (fully works, qe/ci enabled)
  • Ethernet Realtek r1000

Wireless Broadcom PCI-e card was possible after modding the HP Insyde BIOS whitelist to support the Broadcom card.

Basically followed this post, but used ezH20 tool instead of decompressing and compressing the bios (see [60]). After replacing an entry in the BIOS list with the right PCI vendor ID, device ID AND subsystem ID, and a flash it worked!

[edit] HP DV3510nr/DV3540es/DV3550eo/DV3500

-10.5.6 Retail working very well. Needed to edit the retail disc to install onto MBR partitions to keep Vista intact, but that is needed for any retail install like this.

CPU: P7350 2.0ghz - both cores work
RAM: 4GB DDR2 - all recognized
Video: Nvidia 9300M GS - Fully works with resolution changes, QE and CI. Used 9000 series drivers v2 by aquamac. Then installed nvInstaller .52 and selected 512MB, NOT GO drivers.
Intel Wifi 5100 AGN - Does not work. HP's BIOS whitelist prevents the wifi card being switched out with a compatible one unless the whitelist is hacked.
Audio - Fully works. Internal and external speakers and microphone fully work.
Internal mouse and keyboard - need PS2FixKeyboard.pkg to work if you are using a retail distribution.
USB - Works.
Bluetooth - Works.
Webcam - Works.
Chipset - Recognized.
Speedstep - Works.
Restart+Shutdown - Works.
Ethernet - Works.
Battery Management - Works.
HDMI - Video works, but audio does not.
Card Reader - Works.
Sleep - Goes into sleep, but does not wake up.
Validity Fingerprint Reader - Does not work.
Brightness Controls - Do not work.
Infrared Receiver - Does not work.

Getting it all working: Follow this guide: [61] So far, this is turning out to make a great Macbook. If you can live without Wifi, edit the BIOS whitelist or card ID to work, or buy a working USB wifi dongle, then this is an excellent laptop to consider buying .

[edit] HP 6830s

Hardware: Intel Core2Duo, Intel PM45 Express chipset, SATA HD, DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive.

Method: iPC 10.5.6 .

  • Video: ATI Mobility HD3430 - works only 1024x768
  • Ethernet: neither Marvell 88E8072 neither Intel 5100 wireless works
  • Sound: AD1984 - internal speakers are working, headphone speakers not, mic internal or external - nothing

What works?

Basic video, USB, disk and CD/DVD, for sound output and keyboard you have to apply patches AD1984 and PS2 keyboard (and it's smart to apply patch for UUID error also)

[edit] HP DV 6833US

Method: iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6)

What doesn't work

  • Wireless - Intel 4965 - No Known Drivers that work. Only iwidarwin has a driver and right now in its experimental stage it will only find networks and give you kernal panic trying to connect.
  • Burner - The TSST Corps DVD+/-RW CD-RW Drive will not burn for me, may for you but you've been warned.
  • Software Updates - While I think this is iDeneb related, software updates wont work, try downloading anything you need from there off of either Apple or Download.com.
  • Firewire Port - Errors out when booting in verbose mode, you will see the error, it wont work but who really uses firewire anyways?

What Works with extra hunted drivers

  • Sound - After hunting it down, there is a driver, if i find a link to it again i will post. It will also not mute.

What works LAN Card Setup fine, driver in iDeneb

  • Selected no Video Driver, still works fine
  • TrackPad and Keyboard both setup up fine w/o additional kexts
  • USB, Fine
  • QuickPlay Volume Controls, Fine

Things not tested

  • Modem
  • VGA Port
  • S-Video Port
  • Expansion Port
  • SD Card Reader

  • ACPIBatteryManager
  • FireWire Remove [newly added]
  • Seatbelt Fix [newly added]
  • Intel GMA 900 Video
  • Download iwi2200 for Intel/Pro Wireless ** The driver from iDarwin does not work on any WPA/WPA2 networks. Trying to buy a mac compatible wireless dongle to use wireless.

I initially installed the included seatbelt kext, but it didn't solve the dmg mounting issue. Then i found a link for how to replace the included seatbelt kext with the seatbelt 10.5.5 that matched with the version of the Voodoo kernel i was running. Following those instructions worked, and dmgs are mounting fine now. ** The above setting give me no problem with dmg mounting issue.

Two issues that I'm having are:

-I wasn't able to find a driver for the wired gigabit network card ** Use AppleBC5751 will let you use LAN

-Video playback doesn't work due to constant stuttering. Not the occasional stutter, complete, no frame rate, no audio stuttering. I read a link that it may have to do with the AC97 audio driver. I haven't been able to find a fix. ** No problem with the above setting

[edit] ThinkPad R60 (Type 9461-DXG)

  • picked some information from here
  • Tryed self-build Snow Leopard (first worked, but later it crashed - don't know why) then installed iPC 10.5.6
  • Mobility Radeon X1400: used proper part of this Guide then QE/CI works
  • UltraNav (Trackpoint & Touchpad) works after ticking the ApplePS2 Fix in iPC - but quite lame just like in a new installed Windows without drivers
  • Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - use this (MAC-Adress has to be re-set after every reboot

NOT WORKING

  • WiFi Intel PROSet/Wireless 3945 - you can try this but for me t only caused kernel panics
  • Dockingstation (just LAN and Audio jacks are working)
  • Change resolution, 2nd Monitor

[edit] ThinkPad R61 (Type 7737-A42)

  • Installed using XxX 10.5.6 Rev 1
  • Leave defaults except: Add AzaliaAudio, 82566MM (networking), X3100 (video)
  • Boot into safe mode (-x) and complete setup wizard
  • Download slashack's X3100 Driver
  • Download AD1984Turbo kext, install kext files, then DELETE AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

NOT WORKING

  • Internal WIFI does not work - based on the IWI3945 chipset - available drivers DO NOT WORK
  • Internal Modem
  • Ethernet Briding (used in VMWare) on internal NIC
  • Battery/Charge Indicator
  • PCCard Slot

Download DellMiniBoot123v8.02b1 from [64], this package has many stuff we need for R61

  • Battery Indicator (Use AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext from DellMiniBoot)
  • Atheros Wireless Card (Use IO80211Family.kext from either DellMiniBoot or 10.5.6, and edit info.plist in the AppleAtheros plugin to include PCI_ID 168C/1014)
  • Don't use buggy slashhack's X3100 drive. Let Leopard link in the default driver from 10.5.6 to have access to full resolutions.
  • For keyboard and mouse (Copy AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext and ApplePS2Controller.kext) .
  • Finally include AppleDecrypt.kext for the encrypted kexts

[edit] ThinkPad R61 (Type 7733-UN2)

  • Installed using iPC 10.5.6 OSx86 Universal Final
  • Leave defaults except Intel 8256MM driver (ethernet), Kext Helper, NTFS, OSx86Tools
  • Also install ACPIBatteryMeter, PowerManagementPackage, PS/2 KeyboardFix
  • Boot using no options unless you want to see more information (verbose mode, -v)
  • For audio (works 95% of the time), download VoodooHDA.kext from [65]; install using Kext Helper or OSx86Tools
  • If the sound gets distorted, simply reboot for restored functionality. Seems to happen after putting the laptop to sleep.
  • WiFi works by default
  • Delete AppleLPC.kext for sleep functionality (closing laptop lid does not work)

NOT WORKING

  • Bluetooth
  • PCCard Slot

Works (After Install):

  • Audio
  • Wireless - Atheros AR5418
  • Ethernet - Intel 82573L
  • USB
  • Bluetooth
  • CD/DVD (hardware eject button doesn't work when booted, use software eject)
  • Video - ATI Radeon x1400 (1024x768, No QE/CI)

Works (After Fixes): Get Download: [66]

  • Video - ATI Radeon x1400 (1400x1050, QE/CI)

Fix: Copy /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext to desktop - right click - show package contents of kext - edit info.plist with textedit: Look for 0x71461002 and change to 0x71451002, Run Universal OSx86 Installer -> Set Native Boot Res: 1400x1050 & Install Custom Kexts from HD: select modified kext on desktop - Click Install, Run OSx86 Tools -> Enable/Disable Quartz GL - Restart

  • Speedstep (hack)

Fix: Copy SpeedStep to applications folder (from download) Open Terminal:

cd .. <enter>
cd .. <enter>
cd Applications <enter>
sudo -s (enter password when prompted)
sudo chown root SpeedStep.app/Contents/MacOS/SpeedStep
sudo chmod +s SpeedStep.app/Contents/MacOS/SpeedStep

System Preferences - Accounts - Login Items: Add SpeedStep from Applications folder and check Hide Run Universal OSx86 Installer -> Install Custom Kexts from HD: ACPICPUThrottle.kext, AppleACPIPlatform.kext, IntelEhancedSpeedStep.kext (from download)

  • Fingerprint Login

Fix: Install ProtectorSuiteMac1_2.dmg (from download or: [67])

  • Sleep

Partial Fix: Delete /System/Library/Extensions/AppleLPC.kext (sleeps just fine but screen doesn't turn off unless you close lid.)

Not Working:

  • Battery Meter (I think this worked with iDeneb 10.5.6 should be a fix available)

Undetermined:

  • PCI1510 PC Card Cardbus (may work, didn't have anything to test it with)
  • Video Out (VGA) (may work, didn't test)

Working: Power Management. Audio Works, but not the mute button

Video Fix:(found on thinkpads.com forum) 1. Install the base system. When the system reboots, you'll need to stop it when it prompts for startup options. 2. Start in single user mode, using -s 3. mount -uw / 4. rm -r /system/library/extensions/AppleIntelGMAX*.* 5. exit You'll start using the stock VGA drivers. Using 0SX86Tools (be sure to install), load the x3100 drivers from the site. Reboot and it worked .

[edit] ThinkPad X60 (Type 1706-85U)

iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3 Final

Lenovo/ IBM Thinkpad x60 type 1706-85U

  • Video - Intel GMA 950
  • Chipset - Intel ICHx SATA Drivers
  • Audio - Azalia Audio
  • Ethernet - Intel 82566MM Ethernet driver
  • Wireless - Intel PROset/wireless 3945
  • Power Management - Power Management Package and VoodooPower
  • Fixes and Patches - CarbonLib Fix, IOPCIFamily and IOPCMCIAFamily
  • PS/2 Devices - Mouse Fix and Keyboard Fix
  • DSDT Patches - Patch DSDT
  • Apple SMBios Patch - AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 667MHz
  • Applications - OSx86 Tools Utility and Pacifist

Working / Not Working:

  • Sleep does not work, but it may be just a simple fix that I am not aware of.
  • I had to enable -nowake in kernel flag section of com.apple.boot.plist.
  • CI and QE work
  • Wireless would see SSID and even with open networks I could not connect

[edit] ThinkPad X60t (Type 6363-A7G)

  • Installed using iATKOS 5i (10.5.5, updated to 10.5.6 through official channels) with the following customization options:
    • EFi V9 Bootloader
    • AppleDecrypter
    • SMBIOS-EFI Air
    • no custom kernel
    • x86 ACPI (needed for PS/2 support or keyboard and trackpoint will not work after install)
    • Intel GMA950 b
    • Intel AHCI SATA (without it it will still work if the laptop BIOS is set to 'compatible' instead of 'AHCI'
    • Disabler.kext (probably not needed)
    • NTFS 3G rw driver (not needed if you don't use NTFS)
  • commented out reference to hardware (like this: "<-- <string>pci8086,27b9</string> -->") that gives the ThinkPad insomnia in the following two files:
    • /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleACPILPC.kext/Contents/Info.plist
    • /System/Library/Extensions/AppleLPC.kext/Contents/Info.plist
    • /Extra/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleACPILPC.kext/Contents/Info.plist (had to do this on my second attempt to get a fully working OSX on my thinkpad, wasn't there the first time?)
  • ( or just simply delete AppleACPILPC.Kext file from the plugin director of AppleACPIPlatform.txt and AppleLPC.kext file completely)
  • installed Smart Scroll to emulate Trackpoint scoll button behaviour with the following settings: enable Grab Scroll with Button 3, scroll without moving cursor and reverse both X and Y axis
  • ( smart scroll does not work on iPC 10.5.6)
  • installed UPEK Protector Suite to be able to use the fingerprint reader (works and is detected without additional hardware). Can not enroll fingerprints that have already been enrolled under other OS'es. Which means you can not use the same fingers for different OS'es if you dual boot. If you only use MAC OS X, remember to wipe all fingerprints before uninstalling Windows.
  • installed AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext to enable the battery icon in the menu bar

Not Working OOB

  • Wifi. This ThinkPad comes with an Intel PRO Wireless 3945 wireless mini pci-e card that isn't supported. Work is being done on an open source driver called iwiDarwin, but the PRO Wireless 3945abg version is not yet working. Bought an official Apple Airport Extreme PRO card (Atheros AR5008 chipset) which works great (after flashing a hacked BIOS), but giving problems under XP, so am going to buy an official Lenovo AR5008 card to get everything under XP working. It's easier to get that one working on OSX than it is to get the Apple one working under XP with Thinkvantage Access Connections and hardware switch.
  • Touchscreen. This ThinkPad model comes with the non multitouch screen with high resolution (1400x1050). A piece of free software from Thinkyhead can enable the touchscreen on tablet notebooks (version 2.0b16 works with iATKOS, previous versions don't. I can't get it to work (yet), somehow it doesn't see my tablet.
  • SD Card Reader. Tried usign the IOSDHCIBlockDevice.kext, which others have had success with, but inserting an SD Card will crash the system.
  • On-Screen Display. On-Screen Display for the volume buttons does not work. Not suprisingly, since it needs software for that.
  • ( you can make it work with Proxi from Griffin Technology page to map the volume button to anything eg. f2-f4)
  • Hibernate. Installed the Deep Sleep widget, it goes to sleep, but doesn't seem to write anything to the hard disk and thus only goes to normal sleep. DSDT patcher borked with a compile error, so can't try that.

Not Tested

  • PCMCIA/PC Card Slot
  • Modem

[edit] Thinkpad X61s (Type 7669-4DG)

  • Installed iPC 10.5.6 Final PPF5
  • Most things work OOTB
    • Ethernet (82566MM)
    • Audio (AD1984)
    • Keyboard/mouse (need to select ps/2 fix)
    • Bluetooth
    • Usb
I've still not found a solution to the apple-british keyboard layout
  • Working after tweaks
    • Graphics (intel X3100)
I had to fiddle with various kext versions to stop it blanking after boot when not in safe-mode - see [74]
  • Not working
    • intel 4956 agn wireless - listed in iPC setup, but the package is just an svn snapshot of iwidarwin, which is far from ready

[edit] IdeaPad S10e

  • Updatable up to 10.6.4
  • Easy install with S10e enabler [75]
  • then installed the bootloader and the AppleDecrypt.kext
  • now I booted this USB Disk and copied it to the internal HDD with SuperDuper
  • now you can boot it from the internal disk and install the other kexts
  • Quite everything works
  • Fan (AppleACPIThermal)
  • WIFI (bcm enabler)
  • Sleep (EHCISleepEnabler) and Hibernate
  • TrackPad.prefpane
  • Battery
  • QE/CI & native resolution (GMA kexts) 1024x576

Video (Intel GM965) is a bit tricky: The display works straight away during the installation but when booting from the hard disk, the screen won't work directly: you'll get white with black bars, which is due to the driver being unable to read EDID from the monitor, hence using a crap resolution.

To workaround this, install with the following device list and use SwitchResX to provide a working resolution:

  • kernel 9.5.0
  • Laptop display (but not X3100)
  • Intel ICHX SATA
  • ALC 262
  • Intel ProSet/Wireless 4965 (even though it doesn't work actually)
  • Patched USB drivers
  • Apple ACPIBatteryManager
  • Apple ACPIPowerSource
  • Power Management Package
  • IOPCIFamily kext Patched
  • PS/2 Mouse fix
  • Patch DSDT with NewHPET
  • Apple SMBIOS - 27 Rev3 800 MHz
  • Chameleon with SMBIOS/DSDT
  • Applications that you wish...

When booting from the hard disk, use the -x option (Safe Mode), which will force the screen in 1024x768.

Install SwitchResX (using a USB stick for instance) and run the SwitchResX daemon, then go to SwitchResX control panel and use the following details:

  • Hsync Range: 31 to 108 (MHz)
  • VSync Range: 56 to 85 (Hz)
  • Pixel Clock: 60 to 80 (MHz)
  • Width: 1280
  • Height: 800
  • Fequency: 60 (Hz)

Also create a custom resolution with much more detailed resolution information in the 'custom' tab:

  • width: 1280
  • height: 800
  • Frequency: 60.20 (exepcted to modify itself to 60.12)
  • timing mode: CVT-RB

Click Apply and Save (alt+s) In the General tab, activate the run of SwitchResX at boot time and save. Activate Mac OS auto-login, reboot. You should be able to use the screen in 1280x800.

Note: in Safe mode the only possible resolution in SwitchResX (avaiable in the active tab) is 1024x768. It is impossible to get 1280x800 in Safe mode. But in normal mode, by running SwitchResX at boot, the correct resolution will be used

Ok I have installed it, and after much trial and error ( about 10 installs) I have a very good install which I am very happy with. It is as stable as my Samsung NC10.

  • Install image XxX_x86_10.5.6_Install_Disc_Universal_Final.v2
  • Change the setting in the BIOS (This is very Important otherwise OSX keeps restarting)
  • In the Advanced Page, change Execute-Disable Bit Capability to Available (was Not Available)
  • Start setup , and at the customize screen select the following
Optional system kexts
->smbiosResolver
Chipset Support
->ICHx Chipset Support
->New ICHx (ICH10)
GraphicDrivers
->Intel GMA Graphics->GMA950->GMA950
AudioDrivers
OtherAudioControllers->AppleAzaliaAudio
PowerManagement
-> ACPIBattery
Others
->PCCARd Fix
->IOPCMCIAFamily.kext
->KeyboardPrefPane 10.5.5
->TrackpadPrefPane Fix
  • Then Install OSX

I also then added the UK keyboard layout form the NC10 page here http://rapidshare.com/users/4GZUA1

Everything is working

  • Except LAN - I tried all kinds of kexts including the one on the install disk for the intel pro/100 VE, even folling some posts to edit he files and inserting the Vendor info etc, I still have had no luck...If anyone has success , please let me know TIA
  • Wireless - intel pro wireless 3945ABG. No Drivers available, I have replaced with a Dell 1490 card which cost £14. It was really easy to install, It is located under the keyboard, and involves removing 4 screws...takes about 5 minutes...so now is all working lovely
  • SD Card - Not tried, but apparently doesn't work. I'm not bothered about this really.

So all the rest pretty much works, I get about 2 hours 15 mins out of the battery, 2 cores are active and it scores 1128 on the GeekBench results site

Sleep works fine, and even sleeps when connected to the power supply (unlike my NC10), the only problem, is that on waking up, for some reason it looks like the '7' key is stuck ( which it isn't) but all you have to do is drop the cursor in a text field (I use Spotlight) and you will see the 7's apearing, press any key, and the 7's stop... now you can carry on as normal... bit of a pain, but its OK.

Hopefully people discussing this and other intel chipset based Toshs here [85]

  • Distro: iPC 10.5.6
  • Kernel: 9.4.0 Universal
  • Patches: cpus=1, Intel ICHx
  • Video: Intel 965 (GMA950 driver)
  • Audio: See audio note below
  • Ethernet: RTL8129
  • Wireless: See wireless note below
  • PowerManagement package
  • DeepSleep widget

To install:

  • When booting DVD, provide option: cpus=1, this is the only way i could get the installer to load.
  • Choose to install the options specified above. Everything should go through correctly.
  • Audio note: To get the audio to work i had to use the VoodooHDA.kext (google it) and use the Kext helper program (select during customize), to install it. This will give you audio from both speakers and headphone jack.
  • Wireless note: i could not get the internal RTL8187B to work, so i swapped it out for a Broadcom 4x from an older Dell i had around. This worked with the Broadcom drivers.
  • Suspend/Resume: Regular sleep doesn't work. System goes into a coma and will not wake up. One alternative is to use "safe sleep" which is really hibernate. You can use the DeepSleep dashboard widget to do this.
  • The only problem i noticed is with the VoodooHDA.kext, if you resume from hibernation, the audio will be distorted and the volume settings will not be as you left them. If you google around you can find an article about how to correct this behavior. Other than that, the system works great, runs pretty quickly and is stable.

Note 1 The video drivers built in work fine, installing anything from here WILL cause the system to sit on a black/blue screen. The internal display works at the correct resolution and external displays are detected and can be configured to native resolutions. DO NOT MIRROR THE DISPLAYS (this causes corruption on both screens and I couldn't resolve it without a reload) Note 2 If you install this you will need to choose 'internal speakers' from the audio settings in System settings. Better kexts are provided here Note 3 To make the wireless work you will need to edit the 'info.plist' in '/System/Library/Extensions/RTL8187Bt.kext/Contents' and replace the string '33161' with '33175' Alternatively replace the kext with this one. Once that is done use the Realtek wireless utility to connect to a wireless access point. Note 4 Download and install these kexts

Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, 512MB DDR 166Mhz RAM, Nvidia Geforce FX Go5200 64M, 32MB dedicated Vram, Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter Realtek RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ Ethernet.

Used distro IPC 10.5.6. When I first booted into the install disk, I picked the 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel, no video nor VGA drivers, LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA Chipset Driver, AC97 Audio driver, PCGenRTL8139 Ethernet driver, no wireless driver, Voodoo power, ACPI fix, CPUS=1 fix, Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 (so image mounting doesn't cause kernel panic), Shutdown/Restart fix, PS/2 keyboard fix, PS/2 mouse fix, patch DSDT, AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 Macbook.

After the install finished, I then booted with the -v -f -s options. When I got into the command prompt (from the -s option) I typed: sbin/fsck -fy /sbin/mount -uw / rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/Ge* rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/NVD* rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

That gave me the ability to create an account without it crashing and it gave me smooth graphics but without QE/CI. To get the Atheros wireless card working, I opened the Terminal and typed: sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros.kext/Contents/Info.plist I went to the line "<string>pci168c,1c</string>" and changed the c to a 3. I saved it, opened OSX86 tools, fixed permissions, cleared extensions cache, touched extensions folder. Then a new network interface was detected. To initially turn the Airport power on in System Preferences, I had to click on Airport on the sidebar, clicked the Advanced button, clicked TCP/IP, then clicked Renew DHCP Lease. I then went back to the main Airport network settings and checked the box display Airport in menu bar. I got QE/CI working on an external monitor only. The laptop screen was dark gray. I used the following method: [87]

Everything else is fully working to the best of my knowledge. Audio, wireless, ethernet, etc. I had to install the Voodoo battery to see battery in the menu bar. Here is the battery meter: [88]

Enable QuartzGL (performance and screen clarity)

  • Run OSX86 Tools: At top left, turn on QuartzGL

Enable .DMG installations without kernel panic

  • Download and install seatbelt.kext 10.5.5: Open System/Library/Extensions: Replace Kext

Enable Trackpad Tap-Selection (click with trackpad)

  • Open System/Library/Extensions: Right-Click ApplePS2Controller.kext: Show Package Contents: Open Content/Plugins: Delete ApplePS2trackpad (or ApplePS2touchpad)

Further Avoid Kernel Panics

  • Repair Permissions in the Disk Utility after significant changes to OS to avoid Kernel Panics. Boot install image to repair permissions on current disk

Unresolved Issues When attempting installation using IPC OSX86, installation failed, repeatedly freezing with "waiting for root device" prompt.

Note: This is my 13th! and final install, the issues listed below seem to have no hope.

  • Sleep does not work, (freezes screen).
  • Synaptics Trackpad has no "scroll" function.
  • A few applications, such as Photobooth and FrontRow, do not run (on my setup).
  • Battery life shortened by roughly 1/3 compared to previous XP installation (worth it).
  • Screen resolution locked at 1024&728, NO display settings can be altered in Preferences.

All else works fine, Good Luck! .

After you get the Successful Install screen, click reboot, as the notebook powers down & back up again remove the installation DVD and press the F8 function key. boot with "-f -s".

When you get to the shell prompt type

mount -uw /
mkdir /drivers
mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA* /drivers
reboot

Then you you can finish the install process. Once this is done connect an external monitor. Then use Kext Helper to reinstall all the GMAX3100 files in the /driver directory and reboot. You will see the wallpaper on the external monitor but not the dock or menus. 1. with external monitor connected, click anywhere in external monitor to ensure finder is selected 2. press shift-alt-a 3. type "sys" 4. press alt-o 5. type "displays" 6. hit enter 7. at this point you should get the window to change resolutions 8. click gather windows 9. set both internal and external monitors to correct resolutions (if 1280x800, set to 1280x768 first - use SwitchResX when all is working to get proper 1280x800x32@60) 10. click on Arrangement in the display props to change the external monitor to be the primary monitor by dragging the menu bar to external monitor.

Once you do this final step the external becomes the primary display. I also fine it useful to use VNC to connect to my Hackintosh sometimes when a window pops up on my laptop display and I cannot see it. Just got to System Props > Sharing > Screen Sharing to turn on the VNC server. Then click Computer Settings to set the VNC login password for the VNC connection.

After some tests with several installation I found a DVD that works without any serious problems so far. iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3

The exact configuration options that I used is the following: Kernel 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel, Chipset: Intel ICHx SATA Drivers, Intel GMA900, AC97 Audio, Ethernet PCGenRTL8139, Intel PROSet/Wireless 2200, PS/2 Keyboard Fix, PS/2 Mouse Fix, All Applications, Sata Drive Icon Fix, Patced USB Drivers

I didn't test the firewire. Wifi connects only to unsecured wireless lans. Screen works perfect on 1280*800 resolution. Audio may be sound funny when multiple voice channels are played together. Laptop fans don't start when it is warming up after some use. Might not a good idea to use for a long time. It might damage CPU or laptops Motherboard .
