Mac OS X 10.5.7
Hardware Compatibility

This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.5.7 builds only.

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Issues so far:

  • Only 1 CPU is active(CPUS=1 One Core Fix, some might need to start the install dvd with cpus=1 boot option)

Fix for 1 CPU issue: download a modified bios, [1] choose file 4CoreDual-SATA2 v2.10 After you flashed the bios, you can simply install it without the need of the cpus=1 One Core fix, and can use both(or more) cores of your cpu ;)

Voodoo 9.5.0+Seatbelt Patch or 9.7.0 Kernel+Seatbelt Patch IDE needs Patching after install! On Install you have to checked AppleGenericPCATA.kext to boot into MAC OS X. Other Driver dont work with MCP78s Chipset!!!
  • ATTENTION:The AppleGenericPCATA Driver works very slow on MCP78S IDE Device´s, this is a Bug in the AppleIOATAFamily.kext!DataDiskRate are around 5MB/s, this is to slow to work with.

-Here´s a Fix to solve this Bug:

  • 1. Download the Updated AppleIOATAFamily. kext from here[2] and replace it with the one in the System/ Library/ Extensionfolder.Reboot
  • 2. Download the AppleNForceATA.kext Driver, the untested One, from here[3], unzip and add the PATA/ IDE Device ID 0x075910de to PATA section in info.plist in the Contentsfolder
  • 3. Use KextHelper to install AppleNForceATA.kext and Reboot
  • After Reboot use -v flag to see if Driver is loadet. Is Driver successfully installed, it show you the new Chipset NVIDIA MCP78S(Geforce8200)"NForceATA found 1 Unit" or more, if you have more than one Device! This Fix, boost your DataDiskRate up to 33MB/s.  !!ATA 33!! It´s slow too, but useable!
  • Shutdown, Restart and Sleep works
  • VMWare causes in Kernel Panic if you have Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel installed. Try 9.7.0 Kernel and rename the Custom_Kernel in Mach_kernel to run VMWare stable. You also have to rewrite the com.apple.boot.plist under Kernel <string>mach_kernel</string>

  • System boot´s up in 20 Seconds. With VMWare Fusion installed up to 40 Seconds!
  • if you get a black/white/black screen on bootup, you have to install the Radeon HD 3870 Installer for AMD Users from this [4], and this Package [5] from Triakis!

Once I had 10.5.7 installed I managed to upgrade to 10.5.8 using the iDeneb combo update, but had to turn AHCI on to reboot ("still waiting error otherwise). Also needed to re-install audio after the 10.5.8 update.

GA-EP45-DS3L & DS3LR Intel P45 ICH10 & ICH10R You can perform a full retail fresh 10.5.7 install with a genuine retail DVD with this guide and install any required extensions in Chameleon's /Extra folder leaving the retail install untouched. This guide allows for an easy upgrade to 10.5.8 via software update.

Shutdown, Restart, Sleep, Automatic Sleep, Network, Time Machine, Bonjour, Video and Audio all working expect mic input from 3.5mm jack.

Note: Sleep in 10.5.8 on a retail install with a Vanilla kernel requires a working DSDT and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement left running in S/L/E

A DSDT can be built for this motherboard by following this guide

Hardware:

  • F10 BIOS, AHCI enabled
  • SATA DVD & HDD drives

Installation:

  • 10.5 Retail Install + Software Update to 10.5.7. Booting with Chameleon 2 installed in separate or EFI partition, and using a combined EFI string for Video & Ethernet to enable Time Machine.
  • Kexts required (That work in /Extra)
    • AppleDecrypt, IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector, OpenHaltRestart.
    • Disabler needed to block AppleUpstreamClient for quicktime mouse lag on nVidia 8800GT & AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement (Although this will run fine if using DSDT.aml)
    • Audio - use VoodooHDA (also requires amended OSvKernDSPLib & IOAudioFamily from retail install to allow correct loading from Chameleon's /Extra folder). An alternative for better sound support is to use DSDT audio with a LegacyHDA.
    • Bonjour - Use Psystar's RealtekR1000 (also requires IONetworkingFamily and IPOCIFamily from retail install to allow correct loading from Chameleon's /Extra folder)
    • UUID fix to get round _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35

  • Install method: iATKOSv7
  • DSDT patching failed for me. This will cause your system not to boot. To Fix: Create a new temporary ( small sized ( few megs is more than enough ) ) partition, if you have another partition not being used for the installation you can skip that part. After installation you can use the boot CD to execute the terminal. Find the chameleon v2 install script on the cd. Copy the script to the temporary partition or other partition not being used. Open up the chameleon v2 installer script in an editor ( I used vi on the recently installed OSX partition ) and find where it says DSDT << PATCH ( note: not exactly written). Below it will have:
  • y
  • y

Change the second y to 0 then execute the script. There are three options for DSDT: 0 Darwin, 1 WinXP, 2 Win Vista. WinXP failed, Darwin worked. Vista untested.

  • Chameleon v2
  • VooDoo 9.5.0 kernel
  • Onboard NForce Ethernet doesn't work, Forcedeth kext doesn't work ( see insanelymac forums for a possible fix for forcedeth )
  • USB, Sound work
  • Onboard video works, no QE/CI.
  • 8600GT PCIe video card works. QE+CI with NVKush

  • Using Drivers Includded in DellEFI 1.2a5. Or upgrade base Kalyway 10.5.2 installation with "iDeneb.upgrade 10.5.7 by darwinux".
  • Before rebooting, I reinstalled the appleintelintegratedframebuffer kext using System/Installation/Packages/Patches/GMA950_appleintelintegratedframebuffer.pkg from the Kalyway 10.5.2 CD.
  • Otherwise I got a blue screen on reboot with any of the 3 kernel choices on iDeneb upgrade. The iDeneb upgrade should include this package to simplify upgrades for us GMA 950 folk.
  • During your Kalyway 10.5.2 installation make sure to pick the Intel 950 driver in custom options, otherwise you will get the same blue screen treatment.
