HCL 10.5.7/Portables

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
Mac OS X 10.5.7
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.7 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.5.7 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

iAtkos 10.5.7

  • Processor Model: Intel Celeron M 410 1.47 (Shows in OSX as Intel Core Solo 1.56mhz)
  • Graphics: Intel 950GMA
  • Audio  : Intel HDA
  • Wireless: Broadcom 4311
  • Wired:  :Intel Pro 100ve

OPTIONS TO SELECT WHEN INSTALING (ONLY SELECT THESE OPTIONS)

make sure to type in USBBusFix=Yes when booting from the CD or USB otherwise install will crash due to USB issue

Bootloader: Chameleon v2 You can leave the Bootloader options as is unless one of the options below is one to be added since I do not remember which one is in which section. I just wrote things down on a sheet of paper as I went, I didn't exactly write down what section of the options they belong to

970 Kernel ACPI Driver (DO NOT use x86 ACPI driver or WiFi will NOT work, it will be detected but will not cut on) EFI String GMA 950 For Laptop USB Cardbus (USB and CardBus MUST be selected or Broadcom card will NOT be detected at all plus USB will not work) Voodoo HDA Apple PS/2 Intel Pro V Broadcom Wireless

QE/CI works, wifi will work, built in keyboard and mouse will work, mirror will act weird so don't even try to add a second monitor (still looking for a fix for this) But everything works out of the box

You can also do the standard OSX update to 10.5.8. Once the computer reboots, boot from the iatkos installation, uncheck the main system option in customize and reinstall the options above to have a working installation that is on 10.5.8. It may error out at the end saying cannot make start up disk, but ignore that.

  • Download Dell Drivers for MacOSX here. Also, download MacOSX 10.5.7 update here or apple site (not the combo update). Save them in a Flash Drive or whatever and copy them to your new desktop.
  • Open sleep trick folder inside Dell Drivers package. Drag dsdt.aml to the root of your system volume (e.g. / or "/Volumes/Macintosh HD"). This will fix display going black on GMAx3100 (the thing that happened during first boot). You won't have to close lid if screen goes black anymore.
  • Install Chameleon for fake boot interface. Restart.
  • Install 10.5.7 update. Restart. The first time it restarts, it will restart right after apple logo. Don't worry. The second time it restarts everything works fine.
  • Open Disk Utility and repair permissions. Restart.
  • Install other kext and package inside dell driver pack.
    • Install Wifi broadcom package
    • Install Power Management
    • Audio: Drag 1525_Codec to AppleHDAPatcher_v1.16
    • Install samba if you want sharing with windows.
    • Install SD Card Reader using kext helper.
    • Open Disk Utility, repair disk permissions. Restart.
  • You will be asked to restart many times. Up to this point, everything should be working (wireless, sleep, bluetooth, QI/CE, sound, etc) apart from internal mic and tap-click/side-scrolling/two-fingers on trackpad (buttons and trackpad work).
  • To get internal mic working, download this.
  • Use Kext Helper b7 to install both HDAenabler.kext and AppleHDA.kext from that zip file.
  • Add better trackpad support with preference pane and side-scrolling using this driver: http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,235.0.html (also see http://macyourpc.com/2009/05/20/side-scrolling-on-your-hackintosh/ but not that the driver on this page is out of date)

Observations'

  • Volume Keys work. Multimedia Keys don't.
  • FN Keys Work, please use this fantastic keyboard layout.
  • I haven't testet SVGA-out nor HDMI-out. Though I haven't tested firewire either, it should work too.

If you have any doubts, pm me on insenalymac forums: Fimu.

[edit] Inspiron 9300 using iATKOS v7 (10.5.7)

Customized

  • Chameleon v2/Extra/DSDT/Apple Decrypt/9.5.0 Voodoo kernal/APIC driver/Intel Sata IDE/Speedstep (both options checked)/Voodoo HDA/Voodoo PS2 with trackpad/Broadcom 440

Performance

  • Boots, screen resolution stuck at 1024x768, no sound, no wireless, touchpad too sensitive. Don't know about firewire, modem or external VGA. Seems quite fast

[edit] Inspiron 1545 using iATKOS

OSX86 Install Procedure:

  • Download iATKOS v7, burn it and boot from your drive. If system hangs and reboots, try booting the DVD with “-f” option.
  • Follow the installation steps, format the desired partition (previously created with some other program, and set to type AF).
  • Choose “Custom” installation, and select the drivers/patches as follow:
    • iATKOS v7 Main System
    • Bootloader: Chameleon v2
    • X86 Patches:
      • /extra directory
      • DSDT
      • Decrypters: AppleDecrypt
      • Smbios Drivers: NONE (chameleon2 replaces all)
      • Kernel: 9.7.0 Kernel Voodoo
      • Disabler
    • Drivers:
      • VGA: NONE
      • SATA/IDE:
        • AHCI
        • Intel SATA/IDE (maybe not required?)
      • Intel Speedstep:
        • Speedstep driver
        • Throttling control
      • Sound: Select NONE, you will install later (you can try Voodoo HDA, but you will miss volume control!)
      • PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard: Voodoo PS/2 Driver (without trackpad, cause this version (0.2.1) is still buggy)
      • Laptop Battery
      • Ext2fs (optional, select if you have linux partitions)
      • NTFS-3G (optional, select if you have windows partitions)
      • Network Wired: Broadcom BCM440x
      • Network Wireless: Broadcom BCM43xx
    • Languages: your favorite one
    • Post-Install Actions
  • When the installation finishes, reboot (again, if any errors, try with “-f”) and install the following Audio driver, through Kext Helper:

Audio Driver (mirrored from the original here, must register)

Issues:

The graphics card is an Intel 4500MHD (GM45), so there is no QE/CI support, and a resolution of 1024x768. One workaraound to get the native 1366x768 resolution is to have a working linux installation, and to replace the bootloader with GRUB2, patched with a modded 915resolution, like explained in this post.

Here is an already patched grub2, including GM45 additional patches, grab from here.

The original howto is here.

The other workaround is to install the kexts with the kext utility and kexts provided from this page:

[edit] Vostro 1400

OSX86 Install Procedure:

  • Install iAktos 10.5.5 if starting from scratch.
  • Update to iPC 10.5.6 according to this[1] guide, (thanks to Ryu-ka).
  • Install the following specific items in the Dell Post Installer Package (thanks to Sonotone)[2]: the appropriate Graphics Card; Power Management: Lid Sleep & Battery Meter; Others: SD Card Reader.
  • Install appropriate video card string/kext with either UInstaller or OSX86Tools.
  • Install Chameleon 2.0 RC2:[3]
  • Copy all of these [4] files and replace with all the ones in Extra/Extensions

10.5.7 Update

  • Download and save (not install yet) the 10.5.7 Combo Update from apple:[5]
  • Explicitly follow the 10.5.7 Update instruction (thanks to iHackintosh):[6]
  • Reboot
  • Install the Sigmatel 9228 Audio Kext with OSX86Tools "install kexts" (thanks to Macgirl):[7]
  • For TrackPad Tap-To-Click, download this [8] and copy/paste as follows: go to System/Library/Extensions, right click on ApplePS2Controller.kext and select Show Package Contents; go to Contents/PlugIns, and replace the old with the new ApplePS2Trackpad.kext. I already did this process to the ApplePS2Controller.kext in the Extra/Extensions folder. Tap-To-Click doesn't work after waking the machine from sleep.
  • Good idea to run Repair Permissions, Set Extensions permissions, and Clear Extensions Cache from OSx86Tools.

After the 10.5.7 update, the battery seems to have better charge time (approx 4-5 hours). Strangely, the little blue LED indicating wireless operation no longer illuminates even though the wireless does in fact work fine.

Still Unresolved Issues:

  • Trackpad Tap-To-Click works, but no 2-finger scroll.
  • VGA out (I think I need some kind of EFI string)
  • Ethernet port (can't find Broadcom 590x kext)
  • Restart and Shutdown hangs (but only after installing the NVinject kext, I have the 8400M)

Let me know what experiences you have with this, PM me at my insanelymac account: xRotorHead

  • Install Method: Vanilla install using iAtkos v7 onto an external GUID format USB drive. After installation was able to upgrade to 10.5.8 using standard Apple Software update
  • Chipset: Mobile™ Intel® 965GM Express
  • Processor: Intel Core2 Duo Processor T7300
  • Audio: High Definition Audio, stereo speakers, stereo headphone/line out, stereo microphone in, integrated mono microphone. VoodoHDA driver form iAtkos DVD, stereo speakers work, nothing else tested
  • LAN:
" Intel® Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g mini-pci card, Wireless not working
     * Bluetooth works out the box.
     * Integrated Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet Controller (10/100/1000 NIC), works using driver from iAtkos DVD
  • Video: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, built in screen works ok, can also boot to dual screen and external monitor, can't change between these modes while running
  • Used voodoPS2Controller to get trackpad and keyboard to work
  • Sleep not working, Firewire, cardbus and media slot not tested

[edit] 8510w

Used iATKOS v7 10.5.7 which then upgrades to 10.5.8 via Apple Software Update afterwards.

Leave the installation with all the default options, with the addition of the following options:

  • Kernel * Voodoo 9.7.0
  • X86 Patches * OHR
  • Drivers * VGA * nVidia * Enablers * NVEnabler (ONLY!)
  • System * SATA/IDE * AHCI
  • System * SATA/IDE * Generic IDE
  • System * SATA/IDE * Intel SATA/IDE
  • System * Intel SpeedStep (All options)
  • System * USB
  • Sound * Voodoo HDA
  • PS/2 Mouse / Keyboard * Apple PS/2
  • Network * Wired * Intel * Intel Gigabit
  • Network * Wireless * Broadcom BCM43xx (For Bluetooth)

After the initial installation, remove the DVD from the drive and reboot the system.

From the Chameleon Boot-loader, press any key to enter boot options (shows a "boot-" in the lower left of your screen) and type -s to boot to a shell.

Once you get a prompt come back, type the following: touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Then type: reboot

The bootup process takes the customary 10 minutes or so, but a fix can be found by running the driver pack made up by HexHex and selecting *ONLY* the Ricoh Cardbus and Laptop Power Management driver options. My system now boots in under 40 seconds from the Chameleon Boot manager.

What's working?

  • Full screen graphics, accelerated 1920 x 1200 x millions.
  • Sound
  • USB
  • Laptop keyboard, trackpad and blue touch button
  • Bluetooth
  • Ethernet
  • Volume controls

What's NOT working?

  • Wifi (I'm using a Belkin USB Dongle, which works just great)
  • Full Power-down. (OSX closes but laptop stays running)

Not tested:

  • HDMI out
  • Mic in

[edit] G60-120EM

Used iPC 10.5.6 - Then ran latest update - REQUIRED FOR GRAPHICS

Drivers Used:

  • Laptop Display
  • Macbook Pro Latest Kexts (NVidia) - More Info below.
  • Intel ICHx Sata Drivers (Not sure if this is needed.... Also other ICHx drivers beneath this, on install not needed.. as far as I know)
  • Connexant HiDef Audio drivers (I Think? I just selected all audio drivers except Legacy AppleHDA)
  • Realtek R1000 For ethernet
  • (Atheros) Wireless does NOT work. In the process of installing Broadcom card
  • PowerManagement Package
  • Clamshell Display
  • PS/2 Keyboard Fix
    • Graphics Card

Installed drivers listed above. Download NVidia drivers with Macbook pro check removed and extract the PKGs from the mpkg. You should have an openGL, Video and Display. Install these. Run the NView Enabler pkg with JUST Vanilla installed. Restart and hopefully all should be working.

  • What Works:

Graphics - See above Trackpad - With PS/2 Drive Webcam - Works Out Of Box Wireless - Atheros No. (Although there is a guide on insanley mac that may work.) Broadcom apparantly does. Should be easy to switch around Network - With Realtek Driver listed Above. Sound - With drivers listed above. HDMI Out Works (I think, reboot may be required) VGA - UNKNOWN

[edit] G70-12EA

Installed from iAtkos 7 giving MacOs 10.5.7, stock kernel, left standard options with chameleon 2 bootloader, Voodoo HDA audio, CoreVidia graphics (full acceleration), ensure to install ICH fix from chipset and USB fix to enable sleep to work (random i know...).

Replaced stock Atheros 5007EG wifi card with broadcom card (ensure you get one exactly HP replacement part or HP laptops wont go passed BIOS). Official HP Broadcom card works with broadcom enabller script.

Slelect either Voodoo PS2 or ApplePS2 from installer, either work. Do not need to sleect any aletrnative ACPI. Shutdown works with the cardbus fix / IOPCI.kext but this kills performance and stability so putup with holding shutdown button to power down.

Everything apart from shutdown works! Sleep and Reboot works. Full graphics, audio, webcam, usb, wiki, trackpad all work. Ethernet works with realtek drivers included.

Note: if audio doesnt work after sleep google for a fix, using sleepwatcher to remove audio drivers just before sleep and reload them after sleep (automatically)

[edit] dv7-1285dx/dv7-1183cl

Installed iAtkos ver 7 MacOS 10.5.7 (Upgraded to 10.5.8 via Software Update) used sound kext files from iDeneb v4 (IDT Audio). The Voodoo HDA driver works, but crackles and only allows volume control from the control panel USB issues intermittently, usually problematic with a warm reboot. Same with Power Mangement, currently says no battery.

Tested & Working: Sound Speakers and headphone (mic not tested) USB - See note Video - Full resolution Core Image & Quartz Extreme supported DVD burner Network (wired)

Not tested HDMI VGA Modem eSATA SD Reader Express Slot Microphone

Known Non-Functional (no driver) Intel 5100 AGN Wifi

Install options used (Working from memory here) Default options plus - USB, Natit Enabler, PS2 with Trackpad plugin, Battery, Speedstep

This also works with the HP Pavilion dv7-1183cl computer.

    • Other: Firewire T.I. OHCI

Installed options from ideneb 1.5.1 Leopard 10.5.7 DVD by order:

  • BOOTLOADER:
    • Chameleon V2
    • DSDT Patcher
  • FIX:
    • CPUS=1_Fix
    • PS2Fix Mouse (Keyboard works too, so do not install PS2Fix Keyboard)
    • Seatbelt fix
    • VoodooBattery Manager
  • KERNEL:
    • 9.5.0 Voodoo
  • DRIVERS:
    • AUDIO: GenericAC97Audio (Do not install ADI1981)
    • CHIPSET: ICHx Fixed
    • LAN: AppleBCM440x
    • VIDEO: Intel GMA900 (Do not install Intel GMA915)
    • WIFI: iwi2200
  • Before install, I put a clip between 6 and 12 pins on external VGA, because the well known blue screen problem.
  • After first reboot (ideneb 1.5.1 is not necessary to be inserted on DVD):
  • At the prompt press F8 to enter in command line mode
  • Write: -x -f -v
  • While in safe mode open "Displays", look for the cloning option (AKA mirroring) and apply, then autodetect displays. With this you don't need the clip anymore
  • Reboot and enjoy! (Be pacient if you see the "Forcewake=y" message)
  • WORKING: Video, Audio, Firewire, Wireless, Lan, USB, USB Pendrive and USB HD.
  • NOT CHECKED: PCMCIA

NOTE:

  • I have installed this on an external USB HD 2.5" without problems, and works like a charm, so I changed the boot options in BIOS to show a menu to choose among DVD, USB HD, or Internal HD. This is a good solution for people that need Windows and don't want problems with bootloaders and loose of data.

    • LAN: Broadcom 440x 10/100 Mbit
    • BT: Integrated Bluetooth from HP ver. 2.0
    • Chipset: ICH6 family
    • Other: firewire

Installed DVD: Ideneb 1.4 leopard 10.5.6

  • FIX:
    • CPUS=1
    • ICHx Fixed
    • Seatbelt fix
    • Voodoobattery
    • Kernel: 9.5.0 Voodoo
  • DRIVERS:
    • Audio: AC97Audio
    • VIDEO: Intel GMA900
    • LAN: AppleBC440x
    • WIFI: Broadcom

Applied: Ideneb combo update 10.5.7

After first reboot (ideneb 1.4 inserted on DVD):

  • At the prompt press F8 to enter in command line mode
  • Write: rd=disk0s1 -v (so we start using DVD instead of HDD)
  • Download the kext from (http://ihackintosh.org/forum/index.php?topic=7147.0) and install it using kexthelper or OSx86Tools
  • Switch kernel from voodoo to Anv with osx86tools (backup the old first)
  • Eject ideneb DVD and reboot
  • enjoy!!!!!
  • WORKING: Video, Audio (lateral jack too!!), Bluetooth, Firewire, Wireless, Lan, USB, USB Pendrive only after a reboot (insert USB pen BEFORE start up Mac OS!!!)
  • NOT WORKING: PCMCIA

NOTE:

  • Sometimes the LAN 10/100Mbit seems not working after inserted the cable. In this case turn off the notebook, remove the power jack (eventually the battery too), insert the lan cable (the activity LED must be on), insert the power adapter and power on the HP. Now the ethernet will work perfectly!! .

The instalation was easy, just the Card Reader And the Wireless Card didn't work, i was thinking about to buy a new Wireless Card... Everyting works fine... at last one OS that don't bored me XD

Oh, and the Wired Network, you need to plug in the cable before you turn it on, i don't know why...

[edit] Compaq nc4200

Specs:

  • Pentium M
  • DDR2 Ram (up to 2 gigs)
  • Intel 915gm chipset
  • Intel 900 Graphics
  • Standard HP Broadcom Bluetooth
  • ADI AC'97 Audio
  • Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet
  • Intel 2200bg or Broadcom wifi Chip

Install:

  • Use iDeneb 1.5.1 for install (thats the only one i could get to install)
  • Dont have to mess with the bios

When installing use:

  • Chameleon V2
  • Cpus=1 fix
  • IOPCMCIAFamily
  • SD/SDHCI Drivers
  • IOUSBFAMILYFix
  • PS2Fix Old Mouse and Keyboard (not sure if this is necessary i never tried without it)
  • Seatbelt Fix
  • VooDoo Battery Manager
  • 9.5.0 VooDoo Kernal
  • Generic AC'97 Audio Drivers
  • ICHx Fixed Chipset Drivers
  • Broadcom BCM5751 Ethernet Drivers
  • Intel GMA 900 Video Drivers

Whats Working:

  • Chipset
  • Audio
  • Video (including Qe/Ci)
  • Ethernet
  • Volume Controls
  • Not sure about modem?
  • Wifi (intel 2200bg) it works but very limited with iwidarwin, recommend replacing with a broadcom card (the card is mini pci, not mini pcie and located under the keyboard if your looking to get another)
  • Battery
  • Bluetooth

Whats not:

  • Sleep (if someone can edit and change this)
  • Have to manually turn off, and restart. I can't get them to work even with openhaltrestart.kext I will change if i get it to work.
  • Cannot use Apple update to 10.5.8, all you get after update is the little white no smoking sign on boot.

[edit] Compaq NX6310

  • Install Method: iAtkos v7 works.
  • Pre-install: Disable ACHI and Dual Core in the BIOS.

What to install in iAtkos v7:

  • Default iAtkos settings (MBR, Chameleon 2.0)
  • Audio: Voodoo HDA
  • LAN: Select the Broadcom 44xx Ethernet driver.
  • Video: Select Intel 950 Laptop from iAtkos.
  • SATA & IDE: Select the Intel SATA/IDE option.
  • Install the DSDT, Disabler, OHR, Decrypt, and 9.5 Voodoo.
  • Install the Apple PS/2 driver.
  • Battery extension hack works, install it.
  • Bluetooth works.
  • Any other details, specific install requirements, etc.

What doesn't work: WiFi (You most likely have a PRO/Wireless 3945 ABC card in this laptop and a fix for it has still not been developed). You will have to find a different card that is supported for the time being.

  • To upgrade to 10.5.8 you need to run the Apple Software updater and let it patch normally. After installing the update your laptop will reboot but then freeze or turn off. To fix this problem, reboot to the iAtkos cd and install only the drivers that you originally installed from iAtkos v7 (don't reinstall the main kernal/bootloaders).

Runs great. iAtkos v7 makes it very simple to make this a great OSx86 laptop (minus the WiFi problem).

[edit] Presario C551nr

  • Install Method: iatkos v7 works, and then upgrading to 10.5.8 via Apple Software Update also works.
  • Audio: Mostly works using VoodooHDA available from iatkos install options. However, sound has major static after sleeping and waking. Apparently a widespread problem with VoodooHDA.
  • LAN: Select Realtek model from iatkos install options & LAN will work perfectly.
  • Video: Select Intel 950 Laptop from iatkos install options & video will work perfectly. (Haven't tried QE yet)
  • SATA & IDE: Don't need to select any special options in iatkos.
  • Any other details, specific install requirements, etc.
  • How to install:
    1. Default iatkos install options (with vanilla kernal) plus:
      • Audio, LAN, Video driver selections noted above
      • Cardbus hack extension (needed for WiFi to work)
      • PS2 extension
      • I selected the Laptop Battery extension and it works
      • Broadcom BCM43xx extension (will still require some finagling, see below)
    2. Update to 10.5.8 via ASU. Do all updates available besides 10.5.8. (doubt its necessary, but I did it.)
    3. Download & install latest OSX86Tools
    4. In OSX86Tools, click for hardware device info. It will say a PCI probe or something needs to be installed. Let it install and restart.

Excellent OSX machine. Toughest part is getting the "goddamn" Broadcom BCM4311 WiFi to work. Will need LAN until working. The steps I followed are outlined above. You will absolutely need Chun-Nan's Cardbus extension available from iatkos install options. Things still didn't work for me until I did the OSXTools install & hardware probe as noted above.

cannot get crossover or bootcamp to work. dont force shutdown it or bluetooth will quit working. (trust me) do not push the wifi button or will have to install windows and restart it. if you do this prepare for errors like screen not displaying anything. use the bootcamp like loader or it will crash use only intel sata or will fail use only brodcom drivers and when you see disabler uncheck it and dont install the update for 10.5.8 unless you can stop it from crashing. i didnt give it enuf time so try it but if it wont let you then undo it. and my touchpad stops working and swings to the left and brings up dashboard. just hit f12 and try to forget it.

  • KEYBOARD/MOUSE: works fine out of box, with two-finger scrolling
  • Card Reader: doesn't work, need someone to tell me how to do

As of 18 Jan 2009 1. Can update to 10.5.8. (http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/08/update-hackintosh-osx86-1058/) 2. Update to VoodooHDA.kext 0.2.52 which can fix the blurry sound after sleep (http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php) 3. Card Reader works (install both IOSDHCIBlockDevice.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext)

As of 2 Nov 2010 1. The system installed above in Jan 2009 has been suffering from intermittent shutdown. The problem goes more frequent when playing long flash movies. I thought it was the problem with the X3100 and X3100FB kexts but finally it should be some overheating problem. The system upgraded from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8 cannot regulate the CPU power nicely. So it goes instant off when there is CPU intense process (but here just means FLASH!) 2. After trail and error, installing a appleacpiplatform.kext can solve the problem. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=189163&st=0&p=1573599&#entry1573599. However, I haven't got any explanation why this kext can make it work, that means instant off problem disappear. 3. After you have updated the appleacpiplatform.kext, you will have problem when your system wake up from sleep. So you need to install the dsmos.kext and disabler.kext from netkas.org. http://netkas.org/?p=123. It will resume the sleep function.

  • Left all default installer options but added the following: AHCI, Intel Speedstep, Voodoo ps/2, Laptop Battery, NTFS, Realtek R1000 driver, & USB driver.
  • DO NOT use cardbus driver as it causes an extremely long boot and causes the system to try and shutdown at startup.
  • Update to 10.5.8 kills USB driver, but just reinstall USB off the disc after update.
  • To get nVidia driver to install after 10.5.8 update, download official eVGA driver package (http://www.evga.com) and nektas universal injector (http://netkas.org/?p=104). Right-click and open contents of the eVGA driver and install the 3 packages individually inside the file to bypass hardware check. Then run the nektas injector. Reboot and it should boot in full 1366x768 resolution.

[edit] Toshiba Satellite A205-S4587

Install: Use: iATKOS v7 = Mac OS X 10.5.7 (Leopard)

  • Keyboard/Mouse Voodoo PS/2 Keyboard mouse drivers. Both keyboard / Trackpad / USB Mouse should be working.
  • Video: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family. Use Intel GMA 950 (laptop). Works with dual monitors, but it have may blinks and artifacts when switching to a single monitor. This is possibly due to problematic AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext in the GMA 950 package in the iATKOS v7 DVD. When I replaced it with the one in GMA950+DisplayConfigX package (http://www.hackint0sh.org/f133/47139.htm), the problem is solved. "Natit.kext" is not necessary. CI/QE are supported.
  • Audio: Use Voodoo HDA. Works perfectly. Front speakers work fine too (need to manually switch between internal and external speakers in Sound, not automatic).
  • WLan: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. Not working out of the box. Developing driver can be found on http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/ (not working yet, I could fix the crash probems and get it to receive some 802.11 packets but it is not easy to get it to work completely). A remedy is to get a Trendnet TEW-424UB USB Wlan adaptor (install the Realtek 8187B driver in the installation DVD).
  • Ethernet: Realtek RTL8139/810x Fast Ethernet Adapter. Used Apple Yukon driver. http://code.google.com/p/ipcosx86ppf/issues/detail?id=37

  • Pre-Install Notes -- read first!!!

First, go to (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=71784&st=666) and download the dsdt file at the end of post #667. Thanks bigtime Flames for this. I suggest reading the whole post but to get going FAST just download his DSDT.zip. Now grab a copy of DSDTSE (I used ver 1.3.6). Put these on a flash drive or somewhere handy. Please read this whole post start to finish -- there is some work required post-install to get the video working correctly. This is written for people who can't or dont want to hack up their DSDT files and hopefully even a fresh beginner can get OSx86 on these models using these steps.

  • Install: iATKOSv7

Use the following options: System (required), Bootloader:Chameleon2, /Extra, AppleDecrypt, Disabler, Intel Speedstep (check all), Voodoo HDA Driver, Voodoo PS/2 Trackpad, Wired Network:Realtek R1000, Post-Install. This is a fairly clean install using the vanilla kernel and will get everything but the internal wireless and special laptop (Fn) key combos working. See below to get video working properly.

  • Post-Install Video Fix:

Just a warning here -- if you do everything correctly, your video WILL NOT work -- there are 2 workarounds -- external monitor (faster if you have one handy) or save your video kexts in single user mode, make the changes, then restore them -- see step 1 in the post linked above then do step 2, following Vanilla instructions. If you have an external monitor, connect it to the laptop and with AC power plugged in start the laptop and close the lid -- let it boot to the Welcome screens and open the lid -- touchpad and keyboard will work. Now unzip the DSDT.zip from the Flames post to the desktop -- you should have 'DSDT Audio SATA Display.dsl'. Do the same for DSDTSE.zip. Now drag the .dsl file onto the DSDTSE icon. If the program crashes just do it again, no alarm here. You should now see a big Editor window. On the right side click Compile DSDT (if asked to save, choose defaults) -- I got 0 Errors, 2 Warnings, 0 Remarks, 36 Optimizations for reference. Now click Install DSDT and choose the Drive or partition you installed 10.5.7 to. You should get a box stating Installation Complete. If you used an external monitor, reboot without it and enjoy!

If you moved the video kexts, you need to put them back in the right spots -- open a terminal and type: sudo mv /your backup folder/* /System/Library/Extensions where /your backup folder/ is wherever you moved the kexts to in single user mode.

Open Disk Utility and repair permissions for your OSx86 drive and reboot when complete (both methods).

  • Other Notes

This install is update friendly to 10.5.8, the volume knob and webcam work, card reader is untested and internal wireless will not work as of now (05/2010). A cheap workaround is a Netgear WG111v3 ~$40 at BB -- just download the drivers from Netgear's site. I upgraded the BIOS from Toshiba's site (requires a Windows install) but I dont think it made a difference, and added a bigger HD otherwise this is a stock laptop. The video fix was a major annoyance -- thanks to Flames for that fix and PLEASE do yourselves a favor and read his entire post linked above. PM rnorman33 on insanleymac forums if you need any help and good luck!

(0) From your computer (if it's an out-of-the-box use a live OS such as Ubuntu) create a partition and format it in "NTFS".
(1) When booting from CD to install, hit F8 and enter Darwin Advanced Boot Options, type "-v -legacy platform=ACPI|86pc" (without quotes) to enter installation.
(2) When you enter setup, on the menu bar select "Utilities" and then "Disk Utility". Format the partition where you want to install MAC OS X in "HFS+ (Journaled)".
(3) Packages to select: System (required), Bootloader:Chameleon2, /Extra, AppleDecrypt, Disabler, USB, Intel Speedstep (check all), Voodoo HDA Driver, Voodoo PS/2 Trackpad, Wired Network:Realtek R1000, Post-Install. Add languages you want but only one (selecting two additional languages will cause OS setup to crash before completion, resulting in being unable to boot).
(4) Install.
(5) If the OS doesn't boot from HDD, boot with "-v" option and note the last lines. Then:
(5a) If it sticks at something with "....AHCI...", reboot, enter BIOS and set SATA Disks in "Compatibility" mode.
(5b) If 5a doesn't work, try booting with "cpus=1".
(5c) If 5a and 5b don't work, look up on google the last lines you noted

I'm actually looking for any external driver for Wireless and Ethernet connection. I'm gonna update it as I find the right ones.
