HCL 10.6.0/Portables
From OSx86
|
This is a hardware compatibility list for 10.6.0 builds. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.6.0 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Kernels are still not available. Use only vanilla if it is supported.
See the x86 software page for programs you can run without Rosetta.
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

[edit] Dell Vostro 500
- Install Method: Retail (10A432)
- Chipset: Intel GMA 965 (IntelGMAX3100)

- LAN: IONetworkingFamily.kext (AppleYukon2.kext) from the Retail Install.
- Video: Intel GMA X3100 (Only on 32bit mode) (Needs a DSDT.aml Patch to fix the Black Screen)
- SATA & IDE: The both are working. IOATAFamily.kext from 10.5.8 and AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext by Netkas are needed.
- Important Notes: You must have a working OS X Install. If you want to get it working, you must first restore the Retail DVD to a Hard Drive (WHICH ONE??--Essentially, this setup method needs 3 hard drives: one that already has OS X installed on it; one that is blank and for extracting the contents of the install DVD and one that will be the finished snow leopard installation. restore the DVD to a spare hard drive (which will wipe all its contents) that you will use to modify the install DVD - not the one you will end up installing snow leopard onto)and than use modified OSInstall.mpkg (WHARE TO GET THAT??-if your drive is set to boot from MBR and not GUID, you need a modified installation package which can be had here., if not, go to the os x install dvd and type Command+Shift+G and paste "/System/Installation/Packages/ and run OSInstall.mpkg")to Install it. After that, just install Boot Think 3.2. Copy the DSDT.aml file to the /Darwin Folder. Before you boot it, you must first install the drivers like FakeSMC.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext, PlatformUUID.kext, SleepEnabler.kext, IOAHCIBlockStorageInject.kext.

- "OpenHaltRestart.kext"
- "PlatformUUID.kext"
- Do not use "PS2Controller" from MyHack, this kext will enable the Keyboard only parititial (e.g. alt gr-L for @ is missing). You will need an USB keyboard and mouse for installation (will be fixed in later install stages)

- Graphics Card (Nvidia 9600m-GT) in native resolution (1280x800)
- DVD-RW

WiFi
- Shipped Intel 5100 does not work (no Darwin driver available)
- Bios (Release F.21 has got a WiFi Whitelist containing only this one Mini PCI-E Adapter --> all other Adapters are blocked by Bios! Thanks HP)
- A Bios with modified Whitelist for an Broadcom 4311 based HP Mini PCI-E Adapter (HP Part No. 441075-002) is available here: [20]
- With the patched Bios and the new Adapter WiFi is fully working out of the box (reported as an Airport from 3rd party)
- The DV5-1190eg has got a Hardware Key to enable/disable WiFi. Enabling/disabling WiFi is not supported by the OSX Driver. So the WiFi must be enabled after booting Windows! (The enable/disable-State of the WiFi survives Reboot/Power-Off/Battery-Removal.)

[edit] Lenovo Ideapad S10e
- Used a 16GB USB flash drive for installation.
- Formatted flash drive as Mac OS X Journaled Extended and at the same time copied contents of original Snow Leopard retail DVD to flash drive.
- Also a must: after formatting device and copying contents, must install the latest S10 Enabler to ensure proper bootup for installing Snow Leopard.
- When setting up installation, must have Enabler checked in the Customize area.
- After that, installed the same latest S10 Enabler to Snow Leopard hard drive, then rebooted.
- Then was able to safely update everything available in Software Update, including 10.6 directly to 10.6.2.
- Ethernet doesn't work.
- Wi-Fi works well.
- Sound works well.
- In System Preferences, under Security, must uncheck Use virtual system memory, or the system won't wake up from sleep mode.
- Used application CamTwist as a workaround for getting Lenovo EasyCamera webcam to work, though it's initially out of sync with real-life movement.
[edit] Lenovo Thinkpad T60 (1952-AP2)
- Retail Snow Leopard DVD [10A432]
- OS X Version: 10.6.0 - Kernel 10.0.0 - Chameleon 2 (RC3) Bootloader
- CPU: Intel Dual Core T2400 @ 1.83GHz
- Graphics: Intel Integrated 945GM
Followed installation guide located: here. Had a previous install of leopard 10.5.7 which I used to install to a drive connected via USB by the use of a SATA <-> USB bridge ($10, at most).
I have created azip archive containing all of the kernel extensions, tools, etc that I used during the installation which can be obtained here. Ensure that you are using a Thinkpad T60 model 1952-AP2 before copying com.apple.boot.plist - it has the EFI string for intel's integrated 945GM graphics; if you have a discrete solution, you will need to provide your own string.
- Follow the guide, using the contents of the archive instead of the files linked in the article.
- Use Chameleon RC3 instead of the version listed.
- Use the copy of com.apple.boot.plist provided for the graphics to work out of the box.
- Install the battery and ps2fix packages to your installation drive (located in the kext sub-directory).
- Do ensure that permissions are properly set before booting; modal boxes declaring that the kernel extensions are invalid and need updating will appear if they are not.
Nota Bene: When installing via this method, you may find that you are unable to repair disk permissions within snow leopard - this problem presents itself when installing Snow Leopard onto a drive from within a Leopard installation. Either install Snow Leopard from within another Snow Leopard installation, or re-install BSD subsystem. This method has proven itself on a preliminary installation of Snow Leopard on a spare hard drive.

- picked some information from here
- Install Method: 10.6.2 - SnowOSX 3.6
- Mobility Radeon X1400: used proper part of this Guide then QE/CI works with minor graphic errors
- UltraNav (Trackpoint & Touchpad) works by ticking the ApplePS2 Fix during Installation - but quite lame just like in a new installed Windows without drivers
- Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - use this (MAC-Adress has to be re-set after every reboot
NOT WORKING
- WiFi Intel PROSet/Wireless 3945 - you can try this but for me t only caused kernel panics (maybe you want to buy a Mini-PCI card to replace the native installed one)
- Dockingstation - Mac freezes after take the Laptop out of the Dockingstation (but LAN, Audio and USB jacks are working if you boot up the PC within the Dockingstation)
- Change resolution, 2nd Monitor@VGA (-> 2nd Monitor has to be the same resolution like the ThinkPad Display - then it will show the picture cloned on both screens) - Dockingstation's DVI not tested
