HCL 10.6.2/Portables

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
Mac OS X 10.6.2
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.6.2 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.2 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • Install Method: iAtkos S3 DVD + Apple 10.6.2 Update

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 @ 1.4GHz
  • RAM: 4gb DDR3
  • Graphics: Intel 4500HD (works at full 1366 x 768 resolution, but no acceleration)
  • Sound: Works after patching AppleHDA kext fully, all inputs
  • DVDRW Drive: Works OOB
  • Wired Network: Works with the AtherosL1cEthernet.kext found at http://code.google.com/p/iats/
  • Wireless Network: Not working yet
  • Bluetooth: Works OOB, activated from Fn-F3
  • Acer CrystalEye Webcam: Recognized by OSX as a USB webcam, however no graphic acceleration means I am unable to check its functionality. It's a matter of kext since when installing from another source the webcam turned on to take a snaphot of me.
  • Keyboard/Trackpad: Works OOB with iatkos S3 kexts, called VoodooPS2 + trackpad, Multi-touch ?(don't know how to test it)
  • Power Management: Battery Management working using VoodooBattery kext. Shutdown/Restart also work OOB. Sleep locks the partition, needs to be mounted+unmounted from Disk Utility (dvd)
  • Acer Launch Pad: Soft-Touch-sensitive volume controls/scroll wheel both work OOB
  • Additional Notes: Failed installing other distributions of Snow Leopard, System is very usable but battery life is shorter than Windows Vista, not benchmarked. Viewing films/videos with QuickTime works.

  • Sound: Works after patching AppleHDA kext fully, all inputs
  • DVDRW Drive: Works OOB
  • Wired Network: Not Working, unable to find working kext. (TIP: Check the AtherosL1Ethernet.kext used on 5810T )
  • Wireless Network: Atheros recognized as a native AirPort Extreme device and works perfectly.
  • Acer CrystalEye Webcam: Recognized by OSX as a USB webcam, however no graphic acceleration means I am unable to check its functionality
  • Keyboard/Trackpad: Works with kext found on iatkos v7 dvd, called VoodooPS2 + trackpad, Multi-touch works perfectly
  • Power Management: Battery Management working using VoodooBattery kext. Shutdown/Restart also work OOB
  • Acer Launch Pad: Soft-Touch-sensitive volume controls/scroll wheel both work OOB
  • Additional Notes: Failed installing any other distribution of Snow Leopard, but have read that many have success with Retail + boot123 + chameleon 2rc4. System is very usable but battery life is significantly shorter than Windows 7, at around 4 hours compared to 8+.

QE

  • Install Method: Mac OSX Retail DVD + Empire EFI V1.085 R2 (Chameleon, MyHack)
  • OS Version: 10.6.2
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @ 2.0GHz
  • RAM: 4gb DDR2
  • Graphics: nVidia GeForce 9500M GS 512mb (Works OOB using GraphicsEnabler kext in MyHack, which is bundled with Empire EFI post-install image. Native resolution + QE/CI enabled)
  • Sound: Realtek ALC889, works after patching AppleHDA kext (delete the AppleHDA.kext in the S/L/E and add the VoodooHDA.kext rebuilt permissions with kext utility : The built in microphone, works.Download here.
  • DVDRW Drive: Works OOB
  • Wired Network: Works OOB post-install, however you need to specify AttansicL1eEthernet.kext when installing MyHack in order for it to continue working, otherwise based on experience you will lose network support the next time the kext cache is rebuilt.
  • Wireless Network: Intel Pro Wireless 4965 A/G/N: NOT working. Replaced existing adaptor with an Atheros AR5BXB6 which is recognized as a native AirPort device and works perfectly.
  • Bluetooth: Works OOB
  • Acer CrystalEye Webcam: Recognized by OSX as a USB webcam, however it only seems to be working intermittantly. When it does work, it works very well, however on occasion it will only display a blank image. Rebooting sometimes brings it back to life.
  • Keyboard/Trackpad: Again, works OOB however you MUST specify PS2Controller to be installed when installing MyHack, otherwise you will lose PS/2 support (and therefore the use of the keyboard and trackpad) seemingly the next time the kext cache is rebuilt.
  • Power Management: Battery Management working using VoodooBattery kext. Shutdown/Restart also work OOB, however it will never wake up from sleep mode - my workaround was simply to disable automatic sleep in OSX. There may be a way to fix this however I've not looked into it yet.
  • Acer CineDash: Touch-sensitive volume controls/scroll wheel both work OOB
  • Additional Notes: Make sure NOT to install the preconfigured com.apple.boot.plist when installing MyHack, otherwise you will lose keyboard, mouse, power management and network support. If you do this by mistake, you will need a USB mouse and keyboard to repair the system as the keyboard and trackpad will no longer function.

  • Install Method: Snow_Leopard_10.6.2_SSE2_SSE3_Intel_AMD_by_Hazard (in order to boot put cpus=1 busratio=20)

  • ONLY INSTALL this
  • 10.6.2 update combo
  • Kernel: Legacy_Kernel_10.2.0 (others didin't worked for me)
  • Graphic_Drivers: NONE (i think that GPT was giving me a kernel panic)
  • Audio: voodooHDA and AppleHDA (Not sure wich one got the audio working i think it's AppleHDA)
  • Network: I put BCM5787 (ethernet works)
  • Laptop_Support: INSTALL VOODOOPS2 (or you will be stuck to do you wish to transfer data menu)
  • System_Support:
               -CMOS_RESET_Fix: Apple RTC

               -Fakesmc_v1.0
  • What's working: Ethernet, bluetooth (tested with my magic mouse), sound (but no sound control), USB work was able to copy data
  • What's not working: wireless, stuck wih 1028x768 por resolution, didn't tested SD card reader, sleep does not work,

ATI card no ktext for 5650 model

  • P.N each single time you want to boot osx you will have to put (cpus=1 busratio=20 ) (and if you get a kernel panic put cpus=1 busratio=20 -f ) i tried to edit com.appleboot.plist with osx86 tool but did not work for me
