HCL 10.6.4/Portables

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
Mac OS X 10.6.4
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.6.4 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.4 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • Mine is the Best Buy model (I only mention this because I believe other G60JXs have slightly different H/W).
  • Don't forget that SL requires GPT.

See 10.6.3 entry here. All that's required for 10.6.4 is the combo update. Mysteriously, performance almost doubles over 10.6.3, according to Geekbench results.

Install using 10.6.3 and EmpireEFI. Apply the 10.6.4 combo update. Download the current MyHack installer from prasys' blog. Install MyHack to the disk you installed osx to. Install VoodooHDA.kext. Reboot. Everything should work except wireless. Sound/Video with QE/CI and onboard networking all work.

How:

  • iAktos S3 version 2 DVD for 10.6.3
  • Partition drive in GUID format with required partition tables. To install MAC OS, select - MAC OS Extended (Journaled).
  • To dual boot using windows select MS DOS (FAT) as a second partition table. And, Install Windows FIRST.
  • Leave all defaults on customize menu except:
    • In Bootloader Options Add 32-bit boot, GraphicsEnabler & whole USB menu.
    • In drivers open the PS/2 menu and use the Apple driver to make Keyboard and trackpad work (However Trackpad sensitivity is very high. So, use of external USB mouse is recommended. But, I have not tested Voodoo PS/2 - might work with voodoo.)
    • In Laptop Hardware menu add Battery Meter and TSC Sync (for multi-core processors).
    • Set SATA/IDE to AHCI SATA & CPU power management to Voodoo p-state.
  • Don't forget to combo update to 10.6.4 (Very Easy Update!)

Whats not working:

  • Atheros AR5007 WiFi is not supported(only partial support). Use HP supported Broadcom WiFi instead.
  • Headphone jack works if you go to system preferences/ sound/output and manually switch from speaker to the jack. The mic jack works the same way.
  • Screen resolution only 1024x768 when in 64 bit mode. (Shows all resolution types including 1280x800 if you choose 32-bit boot as your Bootloader mode in customize menu while installing)

[edit] Studio XPS 1645

QE

I did the lifehacker method and used basically everything from that. I'm only getting 1024x768 on my 1080p Screen :(. The bootup is really sketchy with teh multi-beast, and my keyboard and trackpad don't work. To use my keyboard and trackpad I have to use my iBoot CD. Also, it doesnt realize that i have a battery. The sound works tho!! Specs:

  • Processor: intel corei7 720qm @ 1.6 ghz
  • Ram: 6 gb @1337, recongnized only 4 the first install, but all 6 the second time
  • Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon 55730 w/ 1gb
  • 2.0 megapixel camera (works with photobooth!!)
  • will update with more specs soon

iboot doesn't work.. IbootP55Ati doesn't work too. All bootCD doesn't work. Always a Black screen. Iatkos, idened, Leo4all don't reboot correctly (Install successfull but NO boot with EasyBCD & Multibeast). I really think that Studio XPS 1645 isn't an hackintosh.. or post a real install guide for this computer?

[edit] Latitude D620 - Service Tag: 3ZNMR2J

QE
Icon U.png

--- UPDATE: Dell Latitudes now have their own site with all information about installing osx and fixing bugs etc.

Link: http://www.osxlatitude.com

Well, kinda sketchy. I used the [Lifehacker method] > sry dude, but I won't create "braindumps" for people who dislike to play with computers, terminals and other "nerd" stuff.. if you just want to have a working Mac OS with one click then do me a favor and buy a Mac! If not then start to get used to things like the terminal and the technique behind that shiny OS

Now to the Install instructions:

  • First: Special Thanks to leppy700m from InsanelyMac - everything of my instruction is based on his research!
  • Get my package of files: HackPack
  • before we start you should read my former written instructions about the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 - you can do this either here or on InsanelyMac or even in this Wiki: Using "myHack installer" with additional custom kext files
  • Well the installation on the Dell is pretty simple.. just follow my former written instructions in the link above, except these points:
  • After installing myHack to either the USB device or your final harddrive (you need to do this procedure two times! 1st: when you prepare the USB drive - 2nd: when you've installed Mac Os to your HD and executing myHack again), open the Terminal, login as root (sudo su) and delete all kexts in /Extra/Extensions by executing the command (of course you have to alter the paths):
    • rm -R /my/USB/or/harddrive/Extra/Extensions/*.kext
  • once you've done this copy the kexts from my HackPack into this folder by executing:
    • cp -R /here/is/my/HackPack/kext/folder/*.kext /my/USB/or/harddrive/Extra/Extensions
  • and the last command you need for today is to rebuild the kextcache:
    • kextcache -v 1 -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/Extensions

And that's the whole story.. not more, not less - if you've done everything right and have exactly the same notebook than I have, you're ready to reboot and enjoy your new Hackintosh

  • You can now update to 10.6.4 using Apple's integrated update function -> CAREFUL! Just after updating to 10.6.4 the WLAN (Dell Wireless 1390) stops working but stay calm, all you have to do is to copy over a IO80211Family.kext from a 10.6.0 installation or your USB drive with which you have installed the system (located in /System/Library/Extensions).
    • copy it by using the Terminal (cp -R) to /Extra/Extensions and rebuild the kextcache (kextcache -v 1 -m)
    • to be on the safe side delete the original Apple file in /System/Library/Extensions - but it should work without deleting it too

Model No. PSAE0C-AH708C

Distro: iAtkos S3 V2 - 10.6.3, Updating to 10.6.4 works.

IN CUSTOM INSTALL, MAKE SURE THE FOLLOWING IS CHECKED:

iAtkos S3 Main System

Bootloader

  • Chameleon V2 RC4

Patches

  • Leave as is (No Changes)

Main Hardware

  • SATA/IDE: INTEL SATA/IDE
  • Sound: Voodoo HDA (See Issues below)
  • PS/2: Voodoo PS/2
  • CPU Power Manager: Voodoo P-State
  • Laptop Hardware: Battery, Card Reader, TSC Sync
  • VGA: INTEl, EFI String, GMA 950 27A1(32Bit), GMA 950 27AE(32Bit) (choose Both)
  • Network: Wired= INTEL PRO V100

Issues

  • System fan works sometimes, solution: just unplug Power adapter and plug it back in to make the fan work normally. Searching for a better solution...
  • Loud Feedback coming from speakers, seems to be due to the Microphone Gain volume stuck at full. Replace VoodooHDA.Kext with version 2.6.0 to resolve the issue.
  • Internal Wireless does not work. An external adapter may work.
  • Webcam does not seem to work although the Blue LED lights up near the lens. (Edit: But it works on yahoo webcam.)

SOFTWARE UPDATES

  • Updating to 10.6.5, 10.6.6 and 10.6.7 (in that order) works successfully by downloading the combo updates from the official website.
  • Run "Repair Disk Permissions" each time you update.
  • If keyboard & Track-pad stop working, just boot into safe-mode using -x and the reboot normally.
  • If sound stops working, it's most probably because the update placed a new AppleHDA.kext in the (Extensions) Kexts folder. Just delete it, perform a Repair Disk Permissions and reboot.
