Mac OS X 10.6.5
Hardware Compatibility

This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.5 builds only.

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Hardware Name Chipset Notes Patches Used 32/64bit working with patches
Conroe 1333-D667 ICH7 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2,4GHz / 2x Kingston 800hz 2048 MB / XFX GeForce 240GT GGR5 512MB /
  • Bootloader - Chameleon 2 RC4
  • Audio - AZALIA_OUT.pkg
  • Video - OOB with the update of 10.6.4 and graphics enabler=yes
  • SATA works OOB
  • USB - OOB
  • Ethernet - OOB but I use a PCI CARD with chip realtek 1369, it's more compatible and stable for me.
  • Shutdown & Reboot work, Sleep does not Work
  • Install Method: MY HACK INSTALLER: 10.6>10.6.3 software update> 10.6.4 software update> 10.6.5 software update
? Yes
P45DE Intel P45, ICH10, VT1708S
  • Installation method: Installed using iAtkos S3 V2 with Chameleon v2 RC5, Graphics Enabler checked, AHCI checked, NVEnabler checked, VoodoHDA checked, VoodoPS2 checked. Then used the 10.6.5 combo update to get to 10.6.5.
  • CPU: Core 2 Duo E7500
  • SATA: Works out of the box
  • IDE: Not tested
  • LAN: Not yet tested
  • Audio: VoodoHDA
  • Graphics: XFX 9800 GT. Fully supported and functional using NVEnabler, HOWEVER I was only able to get a connection from the DVI port; the HDMI port does not currently output video.
  • USB: Works out of the box. Using a Netgear wg111v3 USB wireless stick. 10.6.X needs the drivers from 10.4 to function, for some reason the 10.5 drivers don't work.
  • Power: Using EvoReboot from install CD, however using SleepEnabler caused a kernel panic upon update to 10.6.5. Removed and reinstalled without, updates fine.
  • Install process: iAtkos S3 V2 image/DVD. Check options mentioned above. Use combo update to get update to 10.6.5. When installing I originally was using a DVI->HDMI converter and using HDMI to the monitor. This would work as long as I did not try NVEnabler, otherwise it would not output any video & resolution was stuck at 1024x768. However once I switched to a pure DVI output->DVI input to the montior I got a fully functional signal using NVEnabler (as well as 100% graphics support mentioned above).
iAtkos S3 V2 + 10.6.5. Combo Update Yes Yes

You can read full, detailed guide here: [43]

  • Bootloader - Chameleon 2 RC4 (from myHack)
  • Audio - 10.6.2-AppleHDAInstaller.pkg
  • Video - GraphicsEnabler=Yes AND PciRoot=1 in com.apple.boot.plist (graphicsenabler alone doesn't work)
  • Ethernet - AtherosL1cEthernet.kext
  • Shutdown, Reboot works, sleep no
  • BIOS&Install method - See guide linked above

IMPORTANT! GIGABYTE LIE ABOUT SOUND CARD! Reading serverals topics on boards I found interesting information: mb specs doesnt match hardware! Eg. my board according to specs has ALC883 codec BUT rly it`s ALC887 (big diff in hackintosh). So, always check codec, you can do it using any linux (I used Ubuntu bcs you can run it w/o installation) typing into console: cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

  • BIOS - Rev2.3, 64bit HPET mode, AHCI
  • Install Method: iBoot with 10.6.0 retail. Started Multibeast and then run 10.6.5 Combo update. After 10.6.5 update finished did not restart but run Multibeast to make HDD bootable with Chameleon 2 RC5. The installed the voodoo and realtek drivers for ethernet and sound. GA-X58A-UD3R FC Rev2.0, Intel X58 ICH10R Intel Core i7 3.2GHz / 3x DDRIII 1333Mhz 2GB Kingston / Asus GT240 1GB/
  • Bootloader - Kakewalk
  • Audio (ALC889)
  • Video - OOB (240GT)
  • SATA works
  • All USB work
  • Ethernet - needed RealtekRTL81xx-0_0_67%2B.pkg
  • Shutdown, Reboot and work with no problem, Sleep not (so far)

(Sleep and Wake works after upgrade BIOS to FE and use the DSDT file from Tonymacx86 Blog)

  • BIOS=FB - board Rev2, 64bit HPET mode, AHCI
  • Install Method: Kakewalk with 10.6.0 retail on USB HDD. Then run 10.6.5 Combo update. After 10.6.5 update finished could not boot without Kakewalk-USB, installed Chameleon as in BlackOSX tutorial , sound needed the ALC889 kext. Ethernet needed kext.

GA-MA785GM-US2H rev 3.3 AMD 785G / AMD SB710
  • Iatkos 3 V2 updated 10.6.5
  • AlC889a needed kext to work and audio volume is a little low but works
  • LAN:Worked OOTB
  • SATA & IDE:Didn't test IDE, Used Sata DVD drive to install to Sata HDD. Install Failed while other hard drives were connected. Plugged other Sata HDDs back in after install and it worked fine.
  • Shutdown, restart work OOTB, Sleep doesn't and didn't spend any time trying to get it working. As far as power saving go, I shut my monitors down after 5 mins.
  • After update before restart, used legacy 10.5.0 kernel for AMD 64 bit and added -force64 to com.boot.apple.plist fixed permissions and 64 bit extensions work. Finally able to use FCP without crashing and Adobe Premiere.
  • Using GTS250 dual DVI. Used enabler when I installed and worked flawlessly
  • Problems include pretty much daily reboots for no reason (seems to only happen when I am away from computer). After reboot, by default, boots to Windows7. When I reboot after Win7, if I don't shutdown and only restart, it pauses when detecting drives for 5-10 sec, if I boot to OSX when this happens, the keyboard and mouse don't work. After that the next time I boot OSX, it freezes during boot earlier each time I try. My only fix is to restore from time machine with SL disc. However, if I shutdown from Windows 7 it works fine. Found out from noticing the pattern. Over all, works pretty well but will go with intel next time.
Sound kext, Legacy 10.5.0 kernel after 10.6.5 update Yes Yes

  • EK/AU versions have the Atheros chipset, US versions Broadcom. This is for the Broadcom. It won't say on card so probe if unsure.
  • Works great with patch to plist file.
  • How to patch the file - edit the contents of info.plist in AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext by adding <string>pci14e4,4329</string> between strings ending 4328 & 432b
  • This can be accomplished rather quickly through terminal, copy and paste

sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/ Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/ Contents/Info.plist

  • add the edit and save. run sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions in terminal, restart, go to system preferences/network and you will see your new AirPort card populate in the list of network connections.
