HCL 10.6.6/Portables

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
Mac OS X 10.6.6
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.6.6 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.6 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • Model: Gateway LT21/Acer 532h 12"
  • processor: intel Atom N910 @1.66 GHz

2GB ram,500GB USB3 SATA HDD (Internal is booting Windows 7) intel gma 3150(i915[N10] driver)

  • Install method summary

Modified boot.plist to enable graphics boot post install Modified AppleIntelFramebuffer.kext Info.plist for A011 Intel model (not absolutely necessary) Sound works OOB, working on Taruga HDA patching for AZALIA AUDIO(detected via DSDT scan) Ethernet (Atheros AR8132) requires IOFamily Fix from CD or internet. I tend to use wifi, but Ethernet appears to work(self-assigned IP in self-assigned range) Keyboard requires PS2Voodoo driver and will fail without it.(/Extras folder) DVD Player will not work on USB CDROM without some help. Investigating. USB ok OOB(DO NOT FIX or it will break) Needs REBOOT/SLEEP fix from disc.OpenHaltEnabler will lockup on reboot/shutdown. Have GMAX3100 drivers to work with, by default is limited to 800x600 and cannot change modes.Natit is not necessary with modified driver, but otherwise required post-install to boot ok.Am finding DSDT patching is necessary. Acceleration is working with DSDT patch but no drivers except framebuffer are loading. Try not to confuse, this is Intel Accelerator 3150, not 950. 950 drivers will crash on boot if configured with DSDT. Boot takes long time and requires -x32 kernel option.

  • Kext Utility 2.4.x
  • UnrarX (optional)
  • VoodooPS2 0.9.8 pkg
  • Right Kexts for this specific netbook provide here [22] (GeneralExtensions)

1) After completed the normal installation of Iatkos as above, at first restart you will need USB mouse and keyboard to complete the startup but all works (Wifi, Lan, Bluetooth, Battery, USB Pen, Card Reader, VGA no QE...). Now install DSDT editor, Kext helper, Kext Utility and voodooPS2 package (optional now). Decompress the GeneralExtensions in a folder (/kexts_mini). Backup in a .zip file your original /S/L/E somewhere for future update. Now merge all GeneralExtensions in /S/L/E and/or /E/E BUT it's important that the same kext doesn't have to exist in both folders. You can quite use kext Helper and/or copy/paste. Now launch kext utility (this tool will process both /S/L/E and /E/E and it will update all OSX kext caches). It's take looooong time, don't worry!!!. Execute a restart and check if all is still ok (QE too). At this point you will have just an 10.6.3 working machine. I have tried to resolve the sleep problem usinf DSDT method as explained here [23] following in the "FIX SLEEP:" section the points 8-9-10. For that I have used DSDT Simple Editor then compiled and installed (in /Extra folder). But it didn't helped!!!. Now you are ready to update OSX. I have used COMBO updates.

2) Procedure to update from 10.6.3. to 10.6.4 and up: NEVER RESTART THE NETBOOK AFTER EVERY UPDATE!!! So download the combo and apply it. After that you have to reapply the GeneralExtensions as above. In particular way, pay attention to these: IO80211Family, IOATAFamily, IOUSBFamily, AppleintelGMA950, Appleintelintegrateframebuffer (from GeneralExtensions zip) and IOUSBMASSSTORAGEclass from /S/L/E. All these kexts are overwritten during most combo updates and before restart the HP mini, YOU HAVE to restore them every time (kexthelper and/or copy/paste) followed by a round of kext utility. In other words, after every update be sure to restore all old kexts. I have noticed that after 10.6.4 I have lost part of USB ports functionality, for that reason restore the IOUSBFamily (from GeneralExtensions) and IOUSBMASSSTORAGEclass (from /S/L/E of itakos 10.6.3 installation).

3) For THE TIME REMAINING OF THE BATTERY follow the fix here: [24]

4) The only thing that doesn't work for me is the sleeper. All the rest works great (2cpu,QE, SD Card reader, USB, Keyboard and touchpad, etc etc etc)

  • Install Method: Snow Leopard 10.6.6i
  • Processor: Intel i5 580-M
  • Hard Drive: 500GB- 7200 RPM
  • Memory: 4GB - 1 DIMM (DDR3)
  • Graphics: ATI RADEON 5650

Not working - wifi, webcam, and sleep (it crash, to unfreeze it press again on the power button), i also had trouble with usb (just try USBfix), Graphic Card :(

How i installed it:

  • 1- Boot leohazard 10.6.6i and partitionate your HDD in 2 (the size doesn't matter as far as it's over 10 GB and satisfy your ) input this to boot the DVD:
                  cpus=1 busratio=20 (don't be surprised if it take time to boot usually can take up to 10min max)
  • 2- One for 10.6.6i and the other one for Windows*/Mac OSX 10.6.2 (10.6.2 will be use to remove kext that cause 10.6.6 not to boot)
  • 3- Once it's done your ready to install 10.6.6
  • PACKAGE to select for 10.6.6:
    *Chameleon_Boot_Loader: chose RC5 or RC4 (i prefer RC5 but it's up to you i don't think that it really matter)
    *Kernel: CHECK IT, it's for legacy
    *Drivers
          *Graphics: NONE (exotic doesn't work)
          *Sound: VoodooHDA_0.2.7.2
          *Network:
          *Lan: NForceLan & RTL81XX
          *WLAN: none of them worked for me
    *Laptop: VoodooPS2Trackpad
    *Chipset: I selected AHCIPortinjector & ATAPortinjector & JMicronATA
    *Sata_Pata: AHCISATAFix
    *Patches:
               -DSDT_Patcher
               -NTFS (if you wish to be able to read/write on NTFS)
               -UUID
               -USBFix (you might need it, did not installed it and it's not detecting my usb key (FAT32))
     (X11 if you plan to use it)
  • 4- Now reboot and eject 10.6.6i hazard DVD and insert 10.6.2 hazard (boot on it) (in order to delete kext that mess up with graphics)
  • 5- Install 10.6.2 on the empty partition
  • 6- ONLY INSTALL this (do not select any Bootloader you already have one)
        * 10.6.2 update combo
        * Kernel: Legacy_Kernel_10.2.0 (others didin't worked for me)
        * Graphic_Drivers: NONE
        * Audio: voodooHDA and AppleHDA
        * Network: I put BCM5787 (ethernet works)
        * Laptop_Support: INSTALL VOODOOPS2 (or you will be stuck to do you wish to transfer data menu)
        * System_Support:
               -CMOS_RESET_Fix: Apple RTC
               -SATA_ATA_Fix: AHCI_SATA_Fix
               -SMBIOS Resolver
               -Fakesmc_v1.0

P.N each single time you want to boot osx 10.6.2 you will have to put (cpus=1 busratio=20 ) anyway you only need 10.6.2 to edit 10.6.6i files (refer to 10.6.2 section for what works or not)

  • 7- Once everything is setup, boot into 10.6.2 and select(navigate into it) the partition where you installed 10.6.6
  • 8-navigate to System\Library\Extensions and delete this stuff:
                           -AppleIntelHD (there might be 4-5 backup them if your not sure)
                           -ATI5000Controller.kext (or something like that)
                           -Pasting ATI5000Controller.kext (from lion as been report to work, but mine did not (but i let it there))
  • 9-Reboot, and your good to GO
  • 10-Select 10.6.6i, partition, before hiting enter, input this:
                             cpus=1 busratio=20 PCIRootUID=1 GraphicsEnable=yes
  • 11-Now if you wish you can wipe 10.6.2 and replace it with windows, or wipe it and extend your 10.6.6 space there so many options

I used to register as MacPro instead of Macbook Pro because of the nvidia drivers down from website and it improves greatly on playing games like starcraft 2 at high settings of max fps at 45 to a minimum of 20fps. I hope it helps for people who has the Rx80 series.

Webcam and Bluetooth work automatically. Tested with Skype and webcam+speakers+mic all work fine (after installing VoodooHDA). Needed "Voodoo PS/2 Controller" and "IOUSBFamily Rollback" to get keyboard and trackpad working after upgrade - trackpad acts as a mouse though and doesn't support swipes. Use "Voodoo battery" to see battery status etc. Tested flash video playback (YouTube) in Safari after installing nVidia drivers and worked fine.

Recommend using this DSDT file: [37]

Experiencing overheating issues while consuming CPU/GPU intensive content. CPU easily reaches 90C and thermal protection shuts the computer down.

Distro: iAtkos S3 V2 - 10.6.3, Updating to 10.6.4, 10.6.5 and then to 10.6.6 works.

IN CUSTOM INSTALL, MAKE SURE THE FOLLOWING IS CHECKED:

iAtkos S3 Main System

Bootloader

  • Chameleon V2 RC4

Patches

  • Leave as is (No Changes)

Main Hardware

  • SATA/IDE: INTEL SATA/IDE
  • Sound: Voodoo HDA (See Issues below)
  • PS/2: Voodoo PS/2
  • CPU Power Manager: Voodoo P-State
  • Laptop Hardware: Battery, Card Reader, TSC Sync
  • VGA: INTEl, EFI String, GMA 950 27A1(32Bit), GMA 950 27AE(32Bit) (choose Both)
  • Network: Wired= INTEL PRO V100

Issues

  • System fan works sometimes, solution: just unplug Power adapter and plug it back in to make the fan work normally. Searching for a better solution...
  • Loud Feedback coming from speakers, seems to be due to the Microphone Gain volume stuck at full. Install VoodooHDA 2.7.2 Package, goto SystemPrefs, open VoodooHDA icon, and lower the GAIN to 0. Run Kext utility. If problem persists, edit voodoohda.kext and change gain # to 0 and imix to about 80%. Run Kext Utility.
  • Internal Wireless can work with only Unencrypted Networks. Linksys WUSB54G V4 is an external adapter and works.
  • Webcam will fully work if you download CamTwist. FaceTime, Skype, MSN, iChat all work if you open them, and then open CamTwist. Google has lots of more info.

SOFTWARE UPDATES

  • Updating from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 works successfully by downloading the combo update from the official website.
  • Run "Repair Disk Permissions" each time you update.
  • If keyboard & Track-pad stop working, just boot into safe-mode using -x and the reboot normally.
  • If sound stops working, it's most probably because the update placed a new AppleHDA.kext in the (Extensions) Kexts folder. Just delete it, perform a Repair Disk Permissions and reboot.
