HCL 10.6.7
|
This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.
- ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
- Please add hardware into tables.
- This is for 10.6.7 builds only.
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| G31M-GS | G31 | Everything works fluently Usb,DVD,SATA,etc.
You need to go to the BIOS and under the USB Settings you have to set the last point to DISABLED otherwise it wont work ! ( You also need BIOS Version 1.30 ). I used iATKOS S3 version 2 ( On the Retail Snow Leo disk you will get a Kernel Panic ;) OSX iAtkos Settings: Bootloader: Chameleon v2 RC4 Bootloader Options: UNSELECT THAT POINT Patches: Use standart Seetings Drivers: Use standart Settings + VGA/nVidia or ATI or INTEL it depends on your GPU Language Packages: Choose your language. CPU: Intel E7500 2,93 GHZ Dual Core SATA: Works with AppleIntelPIIATA.kext IDE: Works with AppleIntelPIIATA.kext LAN: Needs RealtekR1000SL.kext Audio: Needs VoodooHDA.kext USB: Works Onboard video: No QE/CI |
VoodooHDA, RealtekR1000SL | Yes | ? |
| G31M-S | G31 | Everything works except audio which is noisy
Disable USB Legacy in BIOS (so you'll need a PS/2 keyboard to install), install iAtkos v2 s3 with Chameleon Bootloader. You'll maybe need this 1.80 modified bios to boot properly. Update to 10.6.7 (Apple combo), setup Chameleon RC5, and install Realtek last network driver from Multibeast. Add the boot option "USBBusFix" (for example using Lizard), and you'll be able to boot with USB Legacy on in BIOS. |
VoodooHDA (really noisy) | Yes | ? |
| G31M-S R2.0 | G31 | Everything works perfectly except of sleep.
Disable "Legacy USB Support" in the BIOS! Update to the newest BIOS version if you haven't yet. I used iATKOS S3 v2 (kernel panic with Retail DVD) Setup settings: I installed no bootloader (I use iBoot), but you can. Bootloader Options: UNSELECT THAT POINT (if you install a bootloader) Patches: Use standard settings Drivers: Select the drivers you need Language Packages: Choose your language. CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 4x 2,66Ghz LAN: Needs 81xx Retail driver from Realtek Audio: Needs VoodooHDA.kext USB: Works Onboard video: No QE/CI |
VoodooHDA | Yes | Yes |
| G41M-VS3 | G41 | Everything works OOB. System Specs:
The installation method used was iBoot+MultiBeast using Retail OS X 10.6.0 updated from Internet or using Combo 10.6.7 update (torrent downloadable). Other installations work just as good (i.e. iATKOS S3 v2, iHAZARD 10.6.6, etc.). When using the iBoot+MultiBeast method (recommended), Upgrade to 10.6.7 before running MultiBeast. It is noticed that after the upgrade the sound stopped working. This is resolved when installing MultiBeast. When Installing MultiBeast, leave default values as is but select from drivers the latest VoodooHDA.kext to re-enable the audio. NVEnabler can be selected but my card worked without it. |
VoodooHDA, (optional NVEnabler) | Yes | Yes |
| 870 Extreme3 | AMD 870 | System Specs
The installation method used was Nawcom boot cd + Retail 10.6 disk. Install using maxmem=4096 (if you have over 4 gigs installed) and GraphicsEnabler=No then boot from disk again. Setup account. Ethernet is not supported at this point of the install. Must use the Lnx2Mac's Realtek RTL81xx Driver from Lnx2Mac's Blog. Download this to a flash drive or CD and install. Reboot and and boot from the boot disk again. You should now have internet after letting it find your driver and ip address. Download the combo 10.6.7 update and nawcom's 10.6.7 legacy kernel. Download Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r828. Install the 10.6.7 update. Before rebooting install the legacy kernel and chameleon. Select the default theme from the customize section of the Chameleon installer. Reboot. This time boot from the hard drive. You should have a working install. Depending on your video card you may need to do some editing. For my 5750 I added my device id (0x68BE1002) to the ATI5000Controller.kext as well as the ATIx3000Controller.kext for good measure. Rebooted after editing com.apple.boot.plist to change GraphicEnabler to yes. Everything worked. Problems

| P5KPL-CM | Intel G31 + ICH7 | Installed with iAtkos S3 v2 (10.6.3). Installed fine! Graphicsenabler=No at first. Then Updated to 10.6.6 combo, Graphics update, then Multibeast and repair. Then eventually 10.6.7 update and re-multibeast. Broke my PCI wifi airport, but then chimera 1.3 fixed it. No DSDT needed to get this almost fully functional.
Boots 32/64bit, Graphicsenabler=Yes now. BIOS settings close to default; works great!

After instalation, download MACosxupdcombo10.6.6.dmg. Install combo update. DO NOT RESTART! install Multibeast usb rollback to not to lose USB. After install restart. After restart download MACOSXupdcomboupd10.6.7.dmg. Install combo update. NO NOT RESTART! install multibeast usb rollback. MAKE SURE TO COPY OF mach_kernel, USB kexts and network kexts. After restart restore mach_kernel. And you should have already the new SNOW LEOPARD 10.6.7 64 bits. After restart:

VERY convoluted method of installation, stumbled along until it booted, including the use of a USB-SATA adapter for the initial install due to incompatibilities between iBoot/SL Retail and onboard SATA. If I need to reinstall I'll try and document a successful method, but the board DOES work.

| HD 5850 | Sapphire | Retail installation of OSX 10.6.3, combo update to 10.6.7 and Multibeast. Choose Chameleon r748 ATI Experimental by Kabyl and 64-bit boot. GraphicsEnabler=No. I installed the ATI Graphics Update package, all video acceleration works excellent, including video playback.
If hooking up to big screen (via HDMI), it defaulted to 1080i and this caused a slight latency in the picture, not sure why. Switched to 1080p and video/audio seem perfectly in sync. Be sure to visit the Underscan setting to fit the picture to your screen (you'll probably start off with the edges of your screen truncated). |
