HCL 10.7.3/Desktops

OS X 10.7.3
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list ONLY for OEM desktop computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a desktop. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your x86 desktop computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.7.3 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.7.3 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • Network : Onboard Intel
  • Sound : Onboard Intel - use VOODOOHDA.kext

  • Use DSDT
  • All devices work without any tweak. Kexts are easily available. No efi strings required.
  • Please note that my first HDD was not being detected directly so I installed by making it usb readable (use any sata casing)

But if you add right kexts to your installer in advance then it detects directly.

  • Sleep works only with Sleepenabler.kext .................just google it

[edit] Optiplex 755

Dell Optiplex 755 Desktop

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.66ghz

Ram: 4gb DDR2

Video: NVidia GeForce 8400GS 512mb (Need NVInject.kext or search kexts.com for 8400GS and use the one for Lion)

Graphics: QI/CE Fully Working With Resolution Support

Network: Onboard Intel (Worked OOB but was broke, fixed with Intel82566MM.kext)

Audio: Onboard Working (Needed VooDooHDA.kext to make it work)

HD: Seagate 160gb 7200rpm (Stock Dell HD)

DVD: Stock Dell DVD Drive

All USB and Serial Ports Work (Didn't try the LPT Printer Port)

Installed OSX Lion 10.7.0 using the App Store Version of Lion. After making the USB Drive installed without a hitch. Went through Apple's setup and after the setup Lion which broke my Ethernet, but allowed me to boot without the USB drive being in. After the reboot, I put the ethernet kext mentioned above and the NVidia kexts on the desktop and ran Kext Wizard to install them. Rebooted and everything is working GREAT! App Store works, Office 2011 works, iLife '11 works. It is a great machine thus far. Email me if you need direction or kexts j.t.a.y.1.8.7.@.g.m.a.i.l.c.o.m without the extra '.'

UPDATE: Did the Apple Software Update to 10.7.3, 10.7.4 or 10.7.5 and everything is working like it should and I didn't have to reinstall any Kext's.

Hardware Name Chipset Notes Patches Used 32/64bit working with patches
Dell Optiplex 755 Intel Express 82Q35 (ICH9 family)
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33Ghz
  • BIOS version was A10. Updated it to A20 (used an edited BartPE CD. Edited it with MagicISO on a Windows unit.)
  • RAM: 4GB 667 Mhz
  • VGA : Has both Integrated Graphics (Intel Express 82Q35) and a PCIe ATI Radeon HD2400 (part # ATI-102-B27602B) - Both work but without QE/CI at present. To get to integrated graphics, the Radeon card must be pulled. The Radeon card has a DMS-59 jack on it, which can be used with a "splitter" adapter to get two (mirrored) VGA plugs. Cost for the splitter adapter on eBay is about $6.
  • Audio : HD Audio via Intel 82801I (ICH9 family) - onboard, fully working using VooDooHDA 2.7.3.
  • Network: Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit - working using iATKOS's “Intel Gigabit” selection, and Chameleon 2.1's "Built-in Ethernet=Yes" - but LAN does not show as "built-in" for the system, iCloud & App Store are not working. But try this method:
    1. Download EFIStudio 1.1.
    2. Start EFIStudio and Select Device: Ethernet.
    3. Hit Add Device.
    4. In the new window you will see a hexadecimal string.
    5. Go to the file org.chameleon.boot.plist, write <key>device-properties</key> <string>Copy your hex string here</string>
    6. Delete the ethernet configuration in network preferences.
    7. Delete com.apple.network.identification.plist and NetworkInterfaces.plist in YourRootPartition > Library > Preferences > System Configuration.
    8. Reboot. Normally the network service in network preferences was created. App Store and iCloud work.
  • Graphics: working without QE/CI at the basic 1024x768x32
  • Bluetooth: none onboard, that I know of.
  • Monitor : using a Toshiba flatscreen via a VGA cable (using the integrated graphics - have used the Radeon via S-Video cable, too - while waiting for the aforementioned "DMS-59 to VGA" adapter/splitter to arrive)
  • Hard Disk : SATA 160Gb 7200 RPM HDD
  • DVD : DVD +/- RW - I think it is a Sony Optiarc. I know it can read DVDs, but I have not yet tested burning.
  • USB, eSata: all work. I am not positive, but I think I am getting higher USB speeds than just 2.0 when using a 3.0 device ??
  • Sleep & Wake: Not yet fully working. System seems to do a high-powered sleep but the screen does not go black. Touching a key will bring the mouse back, and system is usable. I am searching for DSDT that might help me with this.
  • Have not yet tried to update to 10.7.3 using Combo update.
  • OSX Lion starts in 64 bit kernel by default
  • In BIOS, I set the disk access to the choice called "RAID unless not present, then use AHCI"
  • Installed 10.7.2 by using the "iATKOS L2" distro. It comes with Chameleon 2.1
  • iATKOS installer settings:
    • Bootloader = Chameleon-2.1
    • Bootloader Options:
      • Graphics Enabler = Yes
      • Built-in Ethernet = Yes
    • iATKOS "patches" - defaults left just as they were:
      • FakeSMC = Yes
      • Disabler = Yes
      • RTC = Yes
      • EvOreboot = Yes
    • iATKOS "drivers" - made the following selections:
      • Main Hardware:
        • SATA/IDE = "AHCI SATA"
        • Sound = "VooDooHDA - version 2.7.3"
        • Video > ATI = ATY_Init (chose this in case I am able to get the Radeon card working)
        • Network > Wired = "Intel Gigabit"
Yes Yes

Note: Got QE/CI working in this unit with a used Nvidia GS8400 (256MB) using this driver set. Remember to disable Chameleon's "GraphicsEnabler" in com.chameleon.boot.plist, and I had to remove the ATY_init.kext I had installed earlier.
