HCL 10.8.0/Desktops

OS X 10.8.0
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for desktop computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a desktop. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your x86 desktop computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.8.0 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.8.0 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13Ghz
  • RAM: 6GB DDR2 667

  • Hard Disk: Seagate Barracuda 7200 500 GB
  • DVD: PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P
  • USB: All work
  • Installed Mountain Lion 10.8
  • Had to put IOATAFamily.kext in /Extra folder so install drive would be recognized after install
  • IMPORTANT: DELETE Ati6000Controller.kext from S/L/E on USB drive and back it up elsewhere (you'll need it later)
  • When booting, use boot flag GraphicsEnabler=no
  • After install, boot into new ML install with USB and put the ATI6000Controller.kext into S/L/E of the new ML installation (not the USB) with Kext Utility and repair permissions and stuff
  • Once that's done, graphics will work otb (except it'll appear as AMD Radeon HD 6xxx 1024 MB for some reason)
  • So boot flag GraphicsEnabler=no is no longer needed
  • Installed VoodooHDA 0.2.7.3 (audio), ElliotForceLegacyRTC (prevent cmos/bios reset), EvOreboot (for shutdown and restart), FakeSMC (essential), and NullCPUPowerManagement (also essential)
  • Installed Chameleon_2.1svn_r1820_trunk_10.8 as he boot loader
  • Installed BCM5722D.kext (via kext utility) for internet
  • Added the following boot flags via Champlist: EthernetBuiltIn, ForceHPET, LegacyLogo, InstantMenu, GraphicsEnabler=yes
  • If you can't login to App Store, follow next 5 steps otherwise ignore these and device properties injection in last step
  • Go to EFIStudio -> Ethernet -> Add Device -> HEX String to Clipboard
  • Open Champlist again and click Device Properties and paste code from EFI Studio
  • Go to System Preferences -> network and delete any devices there
  • Then go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete NetworkInterfaces.plist
  • Reboot
  • Go to System Preferences and add device. If it's ethernet (like mine), it should say ethernet (not have en0 or en1 after it)
  • Reboot again and network should be good to go
  • Upgraded to 10.8.1 via manual download, works fine
  • Upgraded to 10.8.2 via manual combo update download, works fine
  • Installed Supplemental Update by manual download, still working
  • Good Luck - Zackptg5

[edit] Dell Vostro 200

  • Install Method: OSXLatitude -> follow this link for all the necessary details.
  • Limited choice of graphics card on Slim Tower models (low-profile cards + 250W power supply). Better choice on Mini Tower models (full height cards).
Hardware Name Chipset Notes Patches Used 32/64bit working with patches
Dell Vostro 200 (ST) IntelĀ® G33 (ICH9) Express chipset
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz
  • RAM: 4GB DDR2-800
  • Video: ATI Radeon Pro X1300/X1550 256MB
  • Audio: Realtek onboard ALC888 -> Ok with VoodooHDA kext
  • Network: Intel 82562V-2 10/100Mb built-in Ethernet -> Ok with AppleIntelE1000 or Intel82566MM kext
  • Hard Disk: 2 x SATA HDD 320GB 7200RPM
  • Card Reader: Internal-USB TEAC CA200 19-in-1 -> works OOB
  • Used unlocked BIOS 1.0.16 from www.bios-mods.com to provide HDD AHCI mode. With standard BIOS, select RAID mode to get AHCI support.
  • Installed Mountain Lion 10.8 with MyHack 3.1.2
  • Full installation method + bootpack (DSDT + kexts) + EDP available at www.osxlatitude.com
  • Installation should work just the same on Vostro 200 Mini-Tower (MT)

Issues

  • ATI X1300/X1550 not supported under ML; needs to be replaced by low-profile, ideally fanless graphics card (nVidia GeForce GT610 or GT620 possible candidates)
  • Wake from sleep not working
