HCL 10.8.0/Desktops

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
OS X 10.8.0
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list ONLY for OEM desktop computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a desktop. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your x86 desktop computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.8.0 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.8.0 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

Hardware Name Chipset Notes Patches Used Compatible 64bit
Dell Optiplex 745 Intel Q645 Express w/ ICH8
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13Ghz
  • RAM: 4GB DDR2 667
  • Graphics Card: Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 (working w/QE/CI but misidentified as AMD Radeon HD 6xxx)

Pre-Installation: Bios Settings:

  • SpeedStep on (don't know if it works or not)
  • Virtualization on
  • Change drive option to legacy

Create Bootable Pen Drive:

  • Download Mountain Lion 10.8.4 from the app store
  • Right click it->'Show Package Contents'
  • Open 'Contents'->'Shared Support'
  • Mount 'Install ESD'
  • Open terminal and run this command: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
  • Then enter this command: killall Finder
  • Reopen finder and open Install ESD
  • Mount BaseSystem.dmg
  • Open Disk Utility, click on restore tab, drag 'Mac OS X Base System' to 'Source' and your usb drive to 'destination' and click 'restore'
  • Then go back into Install ESD and copy 'mach_kernel' into the root of your usb drive
  • Open usb drive, go to 'System'->'Installation' and delete the 'Packages' link
  • Then open Install ESD again, copy the 'Packages' folder, and paste it into the usb drive in place of the link you just deleted
  • Download extra folder from here: http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=4123 and put into root of usb drive
  • Removed ATI6000Controller.kext from S/L/E and backed it up elsewhere (because of Radeon HD 6670)
  • Finally, download the latest version of chimera and install it onto your usb drive
  • Repair permissions of usb drive with kext wizard

http://www.osx86.net/view/1604-kext_wizard_3.7.10.html

Installation:

  • used boot flag GraphicsEnabler=no (6670 only)
  • Format drive to GUID partition map scheme and Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • If you used the mbr patch above, just select mbr partition map instead
  • Install it and reboot
  • Fix bios settings again because it'll have been reset
Post Installation:
  • Install latest version of chimera
  • Go into hard drive of new install and create a new folder and title it 'Extra'
  • Install kexts into S/L/E, copy org.chameleon.Boot.plist into Extra, and run AppleRTC patch from here:

http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=4124

  • Installed BCM7522D (kext wizard) to S/L/E:

http://www.osx86.net/view/3074-bcm5722d.kext.html for network card

  • Installed patched IOATAFamily (kext wizard) to S/L/E to prevent 'still waiting for root device' error:

http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=4112

  • Installed backed up ATI6000Controller back into S/L/E (6670 only)
  • Opened champlist:

http://tools.inmac.org

  • Added boot flag 'ForceHPET', timeout = 5, 'npci=0x2000', 'USBBusFix=Yes', '-v' (last 4 help eliminate 'still waiting for root device' error), smbios iMac 9,1

"Create DSDT to fully solve 'still waiting for root device' problem"

  • Download DSDT Editor:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/top...r-and-patcher/

  • Open DSDT Editor
  • File->Extract DSDT
  • Patch->Open (navigate to where dsdt editor is downloaded, open 'Patches' -> IoataFamily
  • Click 'Apply'
  • IASL->Compile->Fix Errors
  • IASL->Save AML as (save is as 'DSDT.aml' and save it to 'Extra' folder)

To Resolve App Store Error

  • Opened EFIStudio:

http://www.osx86.net/view/91-efi_studio..html

  • Ethernet->Add Device->Hex String to Clipboard
  • Opened champ list
  • Pasted hex string into device properties
  • Went to System preferences->network and deleted anything there
  • Then went to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and deleted NetworkInterfaces.plist

Rest of Post Install:

  • Repaired permissions and caches via kext wizard
  • Removed usb drive
  • Rebooted into new installation

Sleep

  • Putting the computer into sleep manually by hitting the power button works fine, but auto sleep is glitchy.
  • I had to open champlist and remove the darkwake=0 boot flag.
  • Then In System Preferences->Energy Saver, I had to uncheck 'Put hard disks to sleep when possible' and 'Wake for ethernet access'.
  • Finally, I had to set the sleep timing in Energy Saver so the display went to sleep before the computer.
  • Auto sleep works now, but only wakes up when I hit the power button (and it takes a while). If I hit the keyboard, it'll start to wake up but then go back to sleep again.
    • Updated to 10.8.5 and supplemental update via manual download/install without issues
  • Edited AGPM for the 6670, may have full graphics power accel now
  • Good Luck - Zackptg5
