HCL 10.9 Seeds

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a component level hardware compatibility list for pre-release versions of Apple's Mac OS X Mavericks. As this is not the final release, compatibility may change throughout the builds, so please, do not rely on this list when buying hardware. It is for those who wish to share/experiment with pre-release versions of the OS. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for pre-release 10.9 builds only.

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

  • (USB) USB 2.0 Support Disabled
  • (CPU) No-Execute Memory Protection Enabled
  • (ACPI) ACPI HPET Table Enabled

""DMG File:""

  • Niresh-Mavericks

""USB/HDD Installer"" (If your using a USB for this look up "hackintosh slow usb" first. Massive speed diff, 3h to 30m diff)

  • open Disk Utility, select HDD/USB you want as the installer

(i had better luck with "spare" HDD)

  • Options = GUID
  • Format to Mac OS Extended (journaled)
  • Now Format it
  • Select HDD/USB and select restore tab
  • Mount the DMG file (Niresh-Maverics)
  • use as source and select/drag your USB/HDD to destination
  • Click Restore
  • Use Chimera (2.2.1 for me) and select the HDD/USB
  • Now boot from your new Installer USB/HDD

(After installing you can change back the USB 2.0 Support in the bios as this OS X supports it)

Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 System Configuration:
  • CPU: Intel i5-2500
  • GPU: Nvidia GTS 250 1gb (Intel 3000 onboard works too)

Component Status:

Installed fresh 10.9 GM. Had separate 10.8.3 already working (see wiki page).
I simply followed the instructions here and was able to reach installer Vanilla style. After that a few kexts, DSDT, boot loader, and you're good to go:

  1. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/280756-guide-the-all-in-one-guide-to-vanilla-os-x-including-chameleon-dsdt-for-beginners-updated-for-mavericks/
  • BIOS: As was with 10.8, 10.9 still requires an updated BIOS. You need to flash your mobo BIOS with the patched 2.20 version to be able to install and boot OSX 10.8.x. This is because as of 10.8 the NullCpuPowerManagment.kext is rendered useless, which means you cannot boot. The patched BIOS will fix this permanently, meaning you wont even need a replacement .kext. Read about it and download the file here:
  1. http://bios.zmac.net/asrock/Asrock-Z68-Extreme4-220_modified.zip
  2. Source of BIOS patches: http://biosrepo.wordpress.com/asrock/z68/
  • DSDT: You can install and run OSX without a DSDT, but it is unstable and has odd issues (sometimes boot without USB working, no sleep, etc). Put this file in your /Extra/ folder and reboot to fix.
  1. Search tonymac x86.com because insanelymac will not let me directly link. Just search for Z68 Extreme 4 DSDT you'll find it.
  • SMBIOS: Pick the Macmini5,1 option, as it is most closely related to your mobo.
  • Cloning: Speaking of which, once you get to your desktop, I highly recommend making a clone to another partition/USB drive of your hard work so far. I had to reclone 4 times during the process from making mistakes, and my clone image saved me many hours. Use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) or your favorite app.
  • Booting: Just use the bootloader (Chameleon v2.2 r2265). If you used 10.8 before this, also copy over your /Extras/ folder to the new 10.9 (both installer partition, and installed-to partition) for the DSDT, smbios, .plist, etc.
  1. File is included in the "Essentials" zip file located in the first link for instructions on how to install Vanilla style above.
  • Graphics: For installation of OSX, you will *need* to have your Intel Integrated Graphics 3000 plugged into a monitor directly. Tell the BIOS to use "Onboard" video (in Northbridge section). This is required for OSX installation and first boot.
  1. After install, if you are staying on Onboard graphics, change nothing. If you are installing your own graphics card, you may have to install your own .kext files for it (do your research).
  2. After getting your graphics card working, if you are getting long boot-times, try booting with -v and watch where it hangs. If it says "SNB Framebuffer did not show up, unload" then you will need to simply delete all the .kext files named AppleIntelHD3000Graphics (should be 3 or 4 of them). This will tell OSX to stop trying to load from the onboard graphics, which fixes the "SNB Framebuffer" long boot time issue.
  • App Store Login Issue: If you're trying to login to the App Store, or use apps downloaded through the App Store, and you get the "An Unknown Error Has Occurred"
  1. Simply delete this file, empty the trash, and reboot. You'll need to open System Preferences > Network and add your Ethernet connection again manually. Then it all works!
  2. ./Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
