Suggestions

Hi! I've got some suggestions for the wiki. Would be great if somebody would read this:

• add option to delete pages (empty, "need help"-pages)
• remove the . -bug (added when you edit a page)
• update home page: remove "Windows and your Mac"-section, put the "Hardware" section to the top
• make an option to download the whole wiki, btw. what's the current license? OSx86:Copyrights is empty
• change the HCL list format:
  • i think we need 32/64bit columns
  • we need columns like "what's the best state you could this component make working", "how did you do that"
  • column "compatible without patching" is not needed, not a vanilla system is the goal, but a most working component

I think the current one works but just to throw another option into the pit, I think the format can be changed to:

Hardware	Chipset	Firmware	Kexts	Notes

Firmware added, removed "32 bit / 64 bit working with patches" as "Notes" covers it. Created it whilst having in mind that the table can wind up being very long. What I've suggested is pretty straight forward. Very specific information are required instead of a "Yes" or "No" (gets damn annoying when you're looking at mobo HCLs) --Beauty. proletariat 19:47, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, read this post just now. I think the most important question is: "Does does thing work with osx86. Is it safe to buy it/invest time playing with it?" No matter if you need patches, or it works out of the box. Simple the results.
I think 32/64 gives a fast view about this and is needed. Reading long blabla and filtering this necessary information makes it more annoying in my opinion (same as QE in portable pages). How it is done can be posted in notes, or patches used. What do you think? I don't like the expression '32/64 bit with patches' as it does suggest, that only the results after patching, not if this was not necessary, should be posted.

I would vote for two things:

• A 32/64 bit column. Some configurations come with a 64 bit MoBo, but can have a 32 bit processor installed.

(is this even relevant with Snow Leopard? Will it only boot in a 64 bit environment?)

• The ability to jump to a user-added "How I Did It" type of page - hopefully user provided - by whomever got the blasted thing working! (Even after looking at all the available literature on the topic, I still feel like I've been hit with two stiff drinks, and a black-jack. . . .)

Currently we have:

My suggestion is:

Chipset	Board-Manufacturer	Notes	QE	Output	Dual display	32/64bit working with patch

• I think that with Snow Leopard, all graphics adapters which support QE, do also support OpenCL, CI.
• Also haven't found any graphics adapter, where the resolution is limited by OSX. Mostly it's limited by the adapter itself (slow) or the (mostly) the display device.
• I think we should add an additional column which shows which output port (analog, dvi, hdmi) is working. Some graphics adapters need different framebuffers for different output ports. What do you think?--Tom 16:39, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Maybe for HDMI cards a column for Hdmi audio and the used Id to patch applehda.kext--ILeopold
