HCL 10.5.2/Portables

From OSx86
Jump to: navigation, search
Mac OS X 10.5.2
Hardware Compatibility

This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.2 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.5.2 builds only.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

  • Install Method: Zephyroth AMD 10.5.2 rev. 1
  • Processor: AMD TURION 64 X2 TL56 1,8Ghz
  • GeForce GO 7300 fully works with NvInject GO
  • Atheros wi-fi working out of the box
  • SATA works with MeDevil driver.

[edit] Z71V

  • Install Method:
    1. Kalyway 10.5.1, then Kalyway Combo 10.5.2 Update, then Netkas Universal 9.2 kernel (10.5.1 seemed to need installing about 3 times before being successful, don't install additional drivers only the EFI mbr boot option).
    2. The Leo4All 10.5.2 install DVD works fine as well.
  • CPU: Intel Pentium M 2.00 GHz (which has SSE2 not SSE3) (Speedstep appears to be working) Also works on Pentium M 1.86.
  • Chipset: Intel 915
  • VGA: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 Go 128MB. CI/QE working, using NVinject. All resolutions supported, fast and no glitches. With Leo4All, it is highly recommended that NVInstaller is used, otherwise CI is software emulation and QE is not working. It also doesn't hurt to install the NVidiaEFI kext.
  • Lan: Marvel/Yukon chip. Using skge.kext. Skge is included with Leo4All.
  • WiFi: Intel 2915ABG drivers not so good, so replaced card with Atheros AR5212 (AR5005G) which works with inbuilt 10.5.2 drivers and supports WPA. The iwi drivers for intel are still immature. Also recommend considering a Dell TrueMobile 1350 wireless mini-pci card.
  • PCMCIA/Cardbus: Install these drivers
  • Sound: Azalia Out. Working. Make sure that you add the device ID to the plist file in the AppleAzalia kext if it isn't in there already. Audio in works with the beta4some861_880Installer.zip on this page, but you can't control the audio out jack (no sound or volume).
  • SATA & IDE: Working
  • Firewire: Detected, I haven't fully tested yet
  • Sleep: Shuts down fine, but sleep won't use S3 only S1 and can't get hibernate to work.
  • iCal requires Rosetta setting. 10.5.2 update produced long boot times but a bit of ammendments mentioned in the forums fixed the boot times to a very quick time. If installing from Leo4All,do a system update excluding the security and Time Machine updates and the boot time will drop from 6 mins to <1 min

[edit] Benq R55

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 or iDeneb v1.5.1 (Mac OS X 10.5.6 ofc) - no idea which kernel i chose ;-) but it is working
  • Partition Scheme: Master Boot Record - dont know, if it work with GUID as well - i am new to hackintosh
  • Processor: Core Duo T2400 @ 1.83GHz or Intel Celeron M @ 1.60 GHz. OSX identifies both of them correctly.
  • VGA: nVidia GeForce Go 7400 with NVIDIA TurboCache (256MB) or Intel GMA 950 [in iDeneb there is normal kext added into installation dvd sa don;t worry ;)]
  • Sound: Conexant HD Audio. Only speakers working (no headphones or mic), with conexant drivers for leopard on the installation DVD.
  • LAN: Yukon 88E8055 works after manually replacing the AppleYukon2.kext inside the IONetworking.kext. Havent tried with the PCCard.10.5.2.Beta2.pkg (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=81036&st=500) A nice guy mailed me a working AppleYukon2.kext and i replaced it only and started DiskUtility-RepairPermissions. So i didnt have to add my LAN hardware id into /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon2.kext/Contents/Info.plist and then install the PCCard pkg! Change this text, if you have experience in it and know it works.
  • Wifi: INTEL 3945abg wireless adapter - not working (YET!)
  • Powermanagement: Battery monitor working with the power management drivers on the installation DVD.

Note: The BIGGEST PROBLEMS so far are AUDIO INPUT as well as MANUAL NETWORK DRIVER INSTALLATION FOR "Marvell Yukon 88E8055" (SUBSYS 0753152D) Note 2: If you choosed iDeneb installation you have to install iDeneb Combo Update. That fixes many problems such internet / gfx / sound :). Thanks guys, keep doing this great job! Regards to all hackintosh users in the world!

[edit] Benq JoyBook A52

First actualised using Windows XP BIOS on that laptop to version 3.0.

Note: I didn't have DVD (destroyed) so used Plop Boot Manager on 1GB pendrive (this laptop only can boot from 1GB pendrive, and not all 1GB pendrives!!!). Then I booted installator from 16GB pendrive (to make usb installator you can for example use diskutility in mac os x. Restore downloaded installator image to usb pendrive and after that install chameleon 2. If installation of chameleon stops/stucks/no progress, try other versions of chameleon). To install Plop Boot MAnager: - delete every partitions from 1 GB pendrive. In unix/mac in terminal type: sudo dd if="name and localisation of plpbt.img file" of=/dev/diskN bs=1m, where N is number of 1GB pendrive. To check N in mac os x, type in terminal: diskutil list

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 - sleepkernel
  • Partition Scheme: Master Boot Record
  • Processor: 2x 1,87GHz 2 cores works
  • VGA: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M - not working - try Callisto kexts, because works with them on 10.6.3 iAtkos (resolution only!!! no QE)
  • Sound: AppleAzalia kext
  • LAN: works with Realtek 8139 pkg
  • Wifi: not working
  • Powermanagement: VooDoo Battery 100% works
  • USB 100% works
  • Copy from installator AppleVIAATA.kext, and repair permisions. If not: "still waiting for root device".

If You use chameleon 2, delete any kexts for ATA/SATA suppoer from /Extra/Extensions and boot with -f flag for first time.

  • Wifi: Atheros AR5006x - Not working. You can think about purchase a TP-Link TL-WN322G+ or D-Link DWL-G122 USB WiFi Dongle for the wifi solution.
  • Powermanagement: Battery monitor working with PowerManagement_137_1.bundle, although not until change from battery to plugged-in state.

Note: The biggest problems so far are audio input and output.

iATKOS 1.0 v2, MBR file format, Darwin x86 boot loader, Install went as follows: I checked in drivers Intel x3100, Realtech 8139 NIC, SMIbios, SATA support. Nothing else needed. I used Azalia Audio driver from Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4 R3. After the install I got the results below.

  • Both CPU cores working
  • Intel GMAX3100 fully working with QE/CI showing 144 megs of shared memory
  • DVD Burner working fully with Toast
  • Audio works
  • USB 2.0 fully working
  • Touchpad works
  • Wired NIC works

Not working- Atheros 5007 Wifi mini PCIe (using Afterthemac USB Dongle from ebay) Everything very stable, running Photoshop CS3 extended, iLife '08, iWork'08, MS office'08 with no problems, no overheating.

UPDATE- installed Kalyway 10.5.2 upgrade with great results and stability, it takes longer to boot after the Kalyway updater, but after install all the other updated from Mac (except any Core updates, the time machine/airport update, and security update) everything is fast and working G.M.

  • Intel Mobile Chipset: 945GM
  • Graphic card: GMA950 with QE/CI and different resolutions (checked with OpenGL Viewer) - DO NOT INSTALL LEOPARD GRAPHICS UPDATE PACKAGE
  • RAM: 2x1 GB DDR2 PC5300 @ 667 MHz

  • LAN : Broadcom 440X 10/100 - fully working
  • Firewire : RICOH compliant IEEE 1394 @ 400 MHz - fully working
  • PS2 Keyboard and Touchpad - need patching before upgrading to 10.5.2
  • Sound : Sigmatel 9200 - need patching of original AppleHDA.kext with Taruga's v1.20 & SIGMATEL9200.txt dumpcode (microphone not working, but front buttons do)
  • Mini PCI-e wireless card - Dell Wireless 1500 draft N (NJ449, rev A01) - fully working
  • NOT WORKING PARTS - original Intel 3945 a/b/g wireless card and RICOH 3 in 1 Card Reader .
  • EDIT: iATKOS_v2.0i 10.5.4- installed without changing anything on 6400 with GMA 950- full QE/CI. Sometimes boots with dual core enabled- must stop stuttering with sleep trick. Ethernet works- no audio (using usb audio key)- using 2 esata drives on express card in slot- must install mac driver for cheap vantec card to work- can find online or on pc install disc. No sd card reader. You can boot to dual cores (no cpus=1) if you unplug all express cards, usb keyboard, etc..., then use sleep trick.

  • Audio: AppleHDA patcher with stac9200-i.txt

  • SATA & IDE: Does SATA work? Any options in BIOS or Patches? Same thing with IDE
  • Wireless: Intel 2200bg works by downloading iwi2200.zip for Leopard. Installed iwi2200.kext along with Networkselector and NSGUI which can be found by searching the forums. Wireless works only on untrusted open networks.
  • No drivers selected during install
  • Partitioned as GUID with no Vanilla Kernel, SSE2 Kernel .
  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1

It's important to update your BIOS Revision to A04, and for that you need windows (Dell provides the update as a win executable). Once you have it working, get 10.5.2 with a ComboUpdate (look where you know). Then follow this guide: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=110176&st=100# Get Taruga's Patcher...and you will have a fully QE/Ci, sounding, and fast Dell Leopard.

The install may freeze just one minute before ending, just give it some time, or turn it off and reinstalling again (not formatting the drive). I selected the SSE2 system patch (or whatever it is), and i think that's all you need in the installation.

  • Audio: Works with AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 [20] and SigmaTel 9250 codec dump. [21]
  • LAN: Works OOB
  • Video: Works with "Intel_GMA" selection upon install.
  • Firewire: Recognized, not tested
  • DVD-R/CD-R: Works OOB
  • USB Ports: Works OOB only if device is plugged in pre-boot. To fix plug-and-play, install USB Fix v1.3 [22]
  • Wireless: Does not work! (Intel 3945ABG).
    • Solution: Ralink USB dongle. Install Ralink Wireless Utility Client and RT2870 driver right from manufacturer! [23] If it doesn't work, modify the driver kext's Info.plist to match your device's PID/VID (I had to change PID from '113' to '119' and then give the "sudo kextload /system/library/extensions/RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext" command in terminal and it works!) Super easy! .

  • SATA & IDE: Fully working
  • Imaging: Gateway USB 2.0 Webcam working with CamTwist application (although not in iChat).

[edit] Gateway P-6831FX (Retail Laptop)

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel AMD DVD, speedstep kernel
  • Chipset: Intel PM965
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, T5550, 1.86Ghz - Both cores enabled
  • Audio: Sigmatel HD Audio (unsupported) - Easy solution was a $25 pair of Logitech USB headphones (any Logitech USB headphones will work, newest pair as of June 2008 is a combination of

analog and digital. The phones plug into a USB adapter, the good thing is, regular speakers can be plugged into that adapter as well)

  • LAN: Recognized as Realtek Chipset (actually Intel), works out of the box
  • Video: Using NVinject 512 included with Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD, works at full WXGA+ 1440x900 resolution with QE/CI enabled. External VGA and HDMI included on the laptop, however, plugging

external displays into VGA and hitting the 'Detect Displays' button causes the laptop LCD to go dark and hard boot is necessary to recover (sometimes meaning a boot to single user mode and running a repair on the filesystem). HDMI works correctly.

  • Firewire: Recognized, mounts external drive, Final Cut Studio 2 drives camera and loads video
  • DVD-R/CD-R: Optiarc 8x DL DVD/CD Writer w/ Labelflash - All works as expected
  • Wireless: Intel 4965agn - does not recognize, does not work, probably never will. Purchased Wi-Fire USB Wireless G (based on Zydas chipset). Comes with 10.4/10.5 drivers (www.hfield.com for the product and drivers). Works great, does not use the airport drivers, installs its own management utility.
  • Modem: LiteOn v.92 56k Modem - not recognized, not working
  • Bluetooth: Intel Bluetooth 2.0 - recognized, pairing with certain devices fails
  • PC Card Slot: ExpressCard Type 54 - not recognized, no further testing done
  • (3) USB Ports 2.0 - all recognized, all working
  • VGA Out: not working
  • HDMI Out: working correctly after connecting and 'detect display'
  • 5-1 Memory Card Reader: works and detects card insertion, mounts card and opens picture viewer
  • All in all a very OSX friendly laptop since the 'big hit' devices work either out of the box or with included drivers from Kalyway's DVD. Wireless and sound is a shame, but is easily remediated with common off the shelf USB components since USB 2.0 works as expected. QE/CI is sharp and responsive, movies are great, application compatibility is great and if you didn't know this was a Gateway, the performance and component functionality may fool you into thinking it is a MacBook Pro.

[edit] Gateway 3550GZ

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel AMD DVD, speedstep kernel
  • Chipset: Intel 855GM
  • Processor: Intel P4-M @ 1.7 Ghz

Also can't control audio volume. Its too loud and need headphones with volume control. Device id is f211 vendor 1130. Tenx is the manufacturer.
  • LAN: Broadcom - Works
  • Video: Only 1024x768 no CI or QE)
  • Firewire: recognized, not tested.
  • DVD-R/CD-R: Recognized, not tested.
  • Wireless: Works with iwi2200 package on install dvd, but have to repair permissions on kext.
  • Modem: (not working)
  • Power Batt indicator (working with PowerManagment Bundle)
  • PC Card Slot (working using Chun-Nan Kext)
  • SD card slot does not work.
  • VGA out works.
  • Before Install go to bios and disable USB legacy or your trackpad and keyboard won't work. You must start up with the AC adapter plugged in. If you boot from the battery it boots slow and you get a spinning wheel. You cannot disable speedstep in the bios.

[edit] Gateway 6510GZ

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel AMD DVD, speedstep kernel (must uncheck all Hardcoded_SMBIOS options and check SSE2_Jas1048_ACPI_ACPIC on install DVD)

[edit] Gateway MT6705

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2, Leo4Allv3
  • Chipset: Intel 943GML
  • Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2060 @ 1.6 Ghz
  • Audio: STAC9250 -- works, onboard speakers (2) and headphones output. input does not work (mic jack). Cannot absolutely mute the sound, but almost. Volume control works normally other than that. I use a few kexts generated by Taruga's AppleHDA codec installer.
  • LAN: Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 -- working
  • Video: GMA950 -- 1280x800, CI and QE. Working on the Apple Video update. VGA-Out works, S-Video is untested, but presumed working. Resolution changing is supported.
  • Firewire: recognized, not tested.
  • Disc Drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A -- working
  • Wireless: RTL8187 (not used, known not to work), Dynex DX-BNBC (BCM4318) - working
  • Modem: not working, Motorol SM56
  • Power Management working only with the bundle included with Leo4Allv3
   * SpeedStep works with the Netkas 9.2.0 kernel and speedstep kexts available.
  • PC Card Reader: TI xx12 - working
  • 4-in-1 Card Reader: not working
  • Bluetooth: not working, not attempted due to lack of need
  • SATA: ICH7-M AHCI - working
  • Memory: 1gb 533Mhz DDR2, detected correctly
  • Kernels: vanilla works, netkas kernels works
  • PC_EFIv8, GUID
  • Notes: For best compatibility, Leo4Allv3 is wonderful. Unfortunately, I was not able to use ANY of the drives on this distribution EXCEPT for the ICH7 driver and the GMA950 driver from Apple, which is claimed in the distribution to not allow resolution change, but it works. All the kexts I use were acquired and created over time between me and various authors among the forums. Affordable logo design

logo design | cheap logo designIf you need these drivers, contact "E-werd" on the InsanelyMac forums. Also, I am not sure if this is an issue with the operating system power management for a real issue, but: if I boot on batter, I cannot accept any USB connections that were not connected at boot time. I cannot disconnect those items and reconnect them. I have to boot on AC power to have hotpluggable USB.

  • LAN: Marvel Yukon 88E8036 (modified appleyukon2.kext with correct id)
  • Video: GMA950 1280 x 800 CI/QE (installed from DVD)

  • MM/SD/MS Card reader (not working)
  • Power Batt indicator (working with PowerManagment Bundle 137)
  • PC Card Slot (working using Chun-Nan Kext)
    1. Everything mentioned is working except the modem, but I didn't even try. Easiest install ever. Just use the Leo4allv2 DVD.
    2. Selected Vanila kernel 9.2.2, GMA950 drivers, Marvell Yukkon driver.
    3. Install Leopard
    4. Used the AppleHDAPatcher 1.20 to get sound.
    5. Moddified the appleyukkon2.kext for my wired card ID.
    6. Boot with -f
    7. Delete AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext (to get trackpad and keyboard working without -f boot option)

That is it.

[edit] Gateway m-6816

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2

  • Modem: (not working)
  • MM/SD/MS Card reader (not working)
  • Power Batt indicator (nope)
  • PC Card Slot (dunno)

This is a preliminary listing to determine that yes indeed, the M-6816 is moderately compatible with OSX. I will be updating as I figure out how to make things work.

  • Video worked when I didn't install any drivers from the original install disk. the included GMAX3100 display driver doesn't work. Also DO NOT choose to Mirror the displays. Everything goes FUBAR with that selection.
  • Usual tricks of Codec Dump + HDAPatcher do not seem to work here.

  • I'm quite pleased with the outcome of this install. I went ahead and installed JaS OSx86 10.5.4 Client Server Intel SSE2 SSE3 with the same outcome as above. Installed all the kext fixes and now I have an almost fully functioning Gateway M-6846 laptop. My next purchase will be an Atheros Mini PCI-E wireless card since from what I have read, works 100% better than any Intel wireless card on the market. So for the time being I am using a Netgear WG111v2 USB wireless dongle.

[edit] Gateway M-6866

  • Install: Kalyway 10.5.2, Vanilla kernel, Realtek network driver, Time Machine Fix, Intel GMA Graphics Driver
  • Boot Loader: You will get a partition error on the first boot. Use a Linux Live CD to change the active partition back to the Vista drive, and add Mac OS X to the Vista boot loader with EasyBCD If you want to make OS X automatically boot from the Vista boot loader without having to use a second menu, install Chameleon and replace /boot with this one Also, edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist to remove the timeout key and string

[edit] Pavilion dv5184ea

  • All in all it's a great laptop for OS X. Must get a new internal wireless card.
  • Running 10.5.4
  • Running vanilla kernel 9.4

System Configuration

  • Intel CoreDuo 1.83Ghz
  • RAM: 2,5 GB (original 1GB)
  • SATA Hard Disk.
  • Nvidia GeForce 7400 Go 256 MB (15'4 inch Display)
  • USB 2.0
  • Intel 3945 A/B/G WiFi
  • Ethernet
  • Intel High Definition Audio
  • OSX Version: 10.5.2 Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel/AMD (Vanilla Kernel) + Kalyway 10.5.3 Update + 10.5.4 Update from apple

Working

  • Nvidia GeForce 7400 Go (with NVInject GO) - Select at installation
  • VGA Out works after correcting NVCAP string - Use 04000000 00000100 0e000000 00000007 00000000
  • Audio 2CH Only, select patch at installation in Kalyway
  • FireWire OOB
  • Bluetooth OOB
  • Intel 100 Pro/VE works with patched IONETWORK (iAtkos v2 got this patch, extract it with pacifist, forums also)
  • USB 2 works with pcgenusbehci
  • PCMCIA Slot works with patching

Not Working

  • Intel 3945 abg

Bugs

  • Vanilla Kernel Hangs on Sleep

Not tested

  • Output to S-Video (but maybe it works, nvcap string is supposed to work)
  • Card Reader (SD/MS/MMC/XD)
  • Internal Modem
  • HP Expansion Port

[edit] Pavilion dv6110us

System Configuration

  • Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 (dual core)
  • Processor Speed: 1.6 GHz
  • RAM: 1 GB
  • System Chipset: nForce Go 430
  • nVidia NForce MCP51 SATA Hard Disk / DVD.
  • BIOS Version: F.25
  • Video: nVidia GeForce Go 6150 128MB vram - updated in BIOS (15.4 inch Display)
  • USB 2.0
  • Wi-fi: Broadcom B/G WiFi
  • Ethernet
  • Sound: Intel High Definition Audio (Azalia)
  • OSX Version: 10.5.4 iDeneb 10.5.4 with modbin 9.4.0 kernel (upgraded later to StageXNU 9.4.0 Intel/AMD SSE2/3)
  • Leo4All v2, v3 and zephyroth discs will install 10.5.2 if desired. They all have the latest MeDevil nForce fixes so hard drive is recognized during install.
  • Leo4All v4.1 10.5.4 installs exactly like iDeneb except you can select StageXNU during install. Results are same as below.

Working out-of-the-box

  • Video - use kext updates to increase resolution
  • USB 2.0
  • Sound using AppleAzaliaAudio kext during custom install
  • CD/DVD read - burning not tested
  • Shutdown / Reboot
  • Quartz Extreme (QE) - software
  • QuartzGL (QGL) - supported
  • Auvi WBT100 USB Bluetooth adapter

Working, user action required

Still Not Working

  • Suspend/sleep - StageXNU 9.4.0 kernel installed, suspend still not working
  • Headphone Jack
  • Quartz Extreme (QE)
  • Most screensavers (only "computer name" and "flurry" work)
  • Front Row
  • Roxio 9
  • Photo Booth

Bugs

  • Core Image (CI) supported by software...don't know what that means.
  • "About this Mac" shows "Total Number Of Cores: 1" - Other forum threads report this to be merely cosmetic. Activity Monitor shows 2 cores working. StageXNU 9.4.0 Kernel Intel/AMD SSE2 SSE3 fixes this problem quite nicely.
  • System will hang on boot for an extra 5 minutes "waiting for IOKit to quiesce" if usb keyboard & mouse not connected to USB.
  • com.apple.boot.plist error at boot. Workaround is add boot password, set hd to boot first and set timeout message in com.apple.boot.plist to 2.
  • Sound is choppy - Fixed when you add idlehalt=0 cpus=2 to com.apple.Boot.plist

Not tested

  • Output to S-Video
  • CD/DVD burning
  • Internal Modem
  • HP Expansion Port
  • PCMCIA slot
  • VGA out
  • Microphone input
  • Wired ethernet - not tested but appears to be operational in System Profiler
  • IR port

  • Downgrade your BIOS to F.04 (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38256.exe), this is necessary for your sound to work and must be done from within windows.
  • Press F9 during boot and select to boot from CD (you must do this or you will get the com.apple.boot.plist error)
  • The disk will stop booting at IOAPIC: Version 0x11 Vectors 0:23
  • Double-Tap your Power Button and it will continue loading
  • Format your Partition or Disk using the Disk Utility during setup
  • Click the Customize button before installing & select the following options
 * AMD-System-Fix
 * TimeMachineFix
 * Third Party Drivers
   * Chipset Drivers
     * nForce 2/3/4/5 chipset driver
 * Audio Drivers
   * AzaliaAudio
 * Graphics Drivers
    * NVidia Driver
      * NVinject Go
 * Network Drivers
 * Forcedeth driver
  • Let the disk install once it's finished you should have a more or less working install of Leopard
 * Remember to press F9 and choose your Hard Drive to avoid the com.apple.boot.plist error
 * And also remember to Double-Tap your power button to get it to boot
  • Now download the_29's tx1000 package (http://rapidshare.com/files/109974152/tx1000Pack.zip) and install per the instructions. In a nutshell all of the .kext files need to be installed with the Kext Helper in the Applications folder, and all of the other files have their places as well. Just read the instructions and you should be good to go.

Not Working

  • Webcam (Blue Light comes on, but picture is always green
  • Sound Jacks on front port (No mic, or sound out of jacks 1&2)
  • ACPI Power issue on boot (Double-Tap the power button)
  • ACPI Power issue, cannot boot under battery power (must be plugged in)
  • Screen Calibration does not currently work
  • All kexts and information can be found in the topic below, please check that post for the most recent information regarding the tx2000.

Install Method: iATKOS v2.0i Rerelease Not working

Maybe try installing iAKTOS v1.0i (this one works) then updating to 10.5.2

But 10.5.4 is out, so I installed iATKOS v1.0i, updated to 10.5.3 using Kalyway Combo updater (use the vanilla kernel), and updating to 10.5.4 using official Delta Update.

[edit] X41 Tablet

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1, Kalyway Combo 10.5.2 Update, ToH 9.2.0 kernel | UPDATE: JaS 10.5.4 now working with modified ISO install DVD
    1. Use the paperclip trick on the VGA port or connect to an external monitor
    2. At the DVD boot prompt: -cpus=1 -v, or the install will hang indefinitely at either the Languages or Welcome screen.
  • System Model: 1866-9MU
  • Processor: Intel Pentium M 1.6 GHz
  • Audio: Works OOB
  • LAN: Works OOB
  • WiFi: Works with Artheros card
  • PowerManagement: Works with PowerManagement.bundle
  • Video: Works OOB with QE/OpenGL
  • Tablet works with TabletMagic

Doesn't Work:

The X41's 1.6GHz Centrino CPU only supports SSE2 instructions, and as such Rosetta apps don't always function properly. PPC binaries such as Manga Studio Debut 3.0 (the main reason I wanted to run OSX on this tablet) crash frequently and in unpredictable ways. When you shut the laptop lid it futzes the screen. The desktop is still visible, but with much distortion and many artifacts. This can be corrected by manually switching the resolution and then switching it back to your default settings

  • Audio: only speakers work (but well), no line out/in
  • Ethernet: works with the Intel 82566MM driver
  • Wireless not working (Intel 4965AGN)
  • SATA working
  • Video (Quadro FX570M) working through plain VESA driver (pretty slow but videos play ok): none of the NVInject(Go) works (black screen)
  • screensaver (flurry) fails after some time

[edit] X60

  • Install Method: leopard flat image + kalyway 10.5.2 update
  • Motherboard Model: 6363
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz L7400
  • Audio: mic does not work
  • LAN: Ethernet works OOB however, System Preferences always shows cable as unattached. DHCP does not work by default, but if you set a static IP, then switch to DHCP, it will work.
  • Wireless: You MUST replace the Intel card with an IBM/Atheros one. Having done so:

sudo nano System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros.kext/Contents/Info.plist Add: <string>pci168c,1014</string> Fix ownership and permissions per the guide above.

  • Video: You will get a blue screen w/o login upon initial install. To fix this, you will need to edit the following files:

AppleIntelGMA950.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Look for the following strings:

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> <string>0x25828086 0x25928086 0x27728086 0x27A28086</string>

Replace this with:

<key>IOPCIMatch</key> <string>0x00008086&0x0000ffff</string>

Do the same replacement in AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

Then reboot, then GMA950 should work but with mouse tearing problem. Works with any resolution.

  • SATA: works OOB
  • Note: system can not go to sleep state.

[edit] X61 (non-tablet)

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1 + kalyway 10.5.2 update & Apple Graphics Update
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
  • Audio: Works!! Use Turbo's Azalia kext
  • LAN: Does not work, using USB adapter
  • WAN: Intel card does not work, replace with Lenovo atheros card or use USB adapter
  • Video: Fully working
  • SATA: Works great
  • Power Management: battery meter works with patch, sleep works, SpeedStep is working using the mac.nub AppleSMBIOS and CoolBook application.
  • On the first boot after install this computer locks up, the problem is the IntelGMA kexts. To fix it boot into safe mode using -x. Install the Apple Graphics Update(you'll need a usb network device), remove /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950*, and AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer. We wont be needing those as we have the X3100 video. Find and install the Natit kext which helps with video.

Install method was iATKOS_2.0i.iso Was unable to install, period. Tried 2 different DVD compliations. Boots to installer fine but during install gets to about 3% and hangs for about 7 minutes then reboots. Same exact result every time. I believe it has to do with the 965PM chipset. Directions did say there were problems with 965. The exact reason I believe is that it cant write to the hard disk. It can partion it using disk utility but it cant write files to it during install.

[edit] Portege M400

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD
  • Chipset: Mobile Intel 945GM Express
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2x2.0GHz)
  • Audio: SigmaTel High Definition Audio - doesn't seem to work
  • Video: Intel GMA 945 ?? 950 ?? - native resolution (1400x1050) and external widescreen monitor (1680x1050) works
  • LAN: Intel PRO/1000 PL - works out of the box, stopped working after rebooting, followed this post to get it working again.
  • WiFi: Intel 3945 - doesn't work, one workaround is to use a mobile phone as a WiFi/3G modem plugged into USB. I used PdaNet's desktop and iPhone software with a jailbroken iPhone. The device needs to be plugged in before you boot up.
  • Firewire: not tested yet
  • Bluetooth: not tested yet
  • USB: works, but I found you had to have the device plugged in before you booted
  • USB boot: not successful yet
  • How to install:
    • I had to manually DISABLE 'Core MultiProcessing' on the BIOS - to avoid kernel panic while booting from the install DVD. No need for boot switches. The installer recognizes and handles the M400 RAID Controller with no problems whatsoever.
    • To get to the BIOS, turn your tablet on, press and hold ESC until you hear a loud beep, then press F1.
    • To boot from a selected device (CD/DVD, USB...), turn your tablet on, press and hold F2. Then use the arrow keys to highlight the desired boot device and press ENTER (return key) .
    • Didn't install for me when I had 2.1N BIOS, I had to upgrade to the current BIOS (3.8).
  • Tablet:
    • Download Tablet Magic
    • After installation open System Preferences > Tablet Magic
    • Have "Don't Query" checked, set digitizer range to 24590 x 18350 (these numbers might have to be adjusted with trial and error) and then press "Enable Digitizer" and reboot
    • After rebooting you should be able to select the port in the preference pane (serial0), if the serial port doesn't show up, try the following:
      • Run Terminal (it's in /Applications/Utilities)
      • type: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
      • Hold Option-click on Finder in the dock and select Relaunch from the pop-up menu
      • Goto Finder and drag Apple16X50Serial.kext (it's in /System/Library/Extensions) to the desktop
      • Reboot
      • After rebooting, drag Apple16X50Serial.kext back into /System/Library/Extensions
      • Run Disk Utility (it's in /Applications/Utilities), select the drive that MacOS is installed on and press "Repair Disk Permissions"
      • Reboot and the serial port should show in Tablet Magic preference pane, select it and then click on the "Enabled" checkbox to start the daemon. Under extras tab you can have the daemon "launch at startup".
      • To hide all those system folders again, type in terminal: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO, and then hold Option-click on Finder in the dock and select Relaunch from the pop-up menu

  • Install method: Used Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD followed by the Kalyway 10.5.2 combo update using the modbin 9.2 kernel (I tried vanilla 9.2 but it caused endless reboot cycle)

Warning: I stupidly installed the Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 and it caused black screen boots with no safe mode possible. Had to fix by booting install disk, going to terminal and removing all graphics related kexts. Best avoid this update on this machine.

  • Processor: Intel Centrino Duo T7200 2 Ghz (detected as 1 CPU 2 cores at 1.99 Ghz)
  • Chipset: Intel® 945PM Express
  • Display: 15.4" TFT Display 1280 x 800
  • Video : ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 256 MB (0x1002 0x71C5)

Lots of trouble here. Played around with ATIMobileX1600Pack and Driver ATI Mobility X1600 Toshi_A100 and got native 1280x800 rock solid in safe boot mode but on a normal boot I experienced random freezing. Seemed to solve that by following tutorials http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=43074&st=180 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=43891 but no Quartz Extreme or CI so I still have work to do to get this 100%

  • Audio: Intel High Definition Audio (ID: 0x1179FF10) working with AzaliaAudio.pkg

I have not tested input and believe it is probably not working

  • Wireless (3945ABG) not yet working but promising drivers under active development
  • Ethernet (Intel82557). I had it working under 10.5.1 with a tweak to the IONetworkingFamily.kext needed to use -f boot flag to make it work correctly. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=25477&st=20&p=523297&#entry523297
  • PCMCIA / PC Card initially not working but now recognized thanks to Chun-Nan rev8 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=81036
  • USB working fine, at least with pen drive
  • Firewire was fine (had it networked) but seemed to stop working when i got the pcmcia working
  • Sleep / hibernate not working which is very annoying
  • Bluetooth and memory card readers not tested, believed not working.

  • Not Working:
    1. Hardware volume knob (if you need it, use a patched AppleAzaliaAudio.kext with your hardware id, it gives you basic internal speaker output, sometimes stuttering, and no external jack or input support)
    2. ACPI Sleep lasts forever
    3. PCMCIA cards
    4. SD Card Reader
    5. Function keys for brightness dimming, media controls, etc

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1 + Kalyway 10.5.2 combo upgrade
  • Audio: working
  • LAN: Working great!
  • Wireless: RTL8187B (Works great with a little tweaking which will be explained)
  • USB: Working
  • PMCIA: Working
  • 56k Modem: Working (ha ha)
  • Batter Icon: Working with tweaking
  • Video: Working with a kext file added.
  • Blue Tooth via USB: Working
  • Mighty Mouse & Keyboard: Working
  • Sleep Mode works like a charm! ;)
  • Apple Updates to date are currently working!

I couldn't stand how no one told me how to do this the easy way so here is my own step by step tutorial for everyone to use! Enjoy!

1) Plug in a external monitor otherwise all you will see is a blue screen booting up. Insert the Kalyway 10.5.1 install dvd and hit f8 when prompted. Type: vanilla cpus=1 and hit enter. Wait for about 10 minutes for everything to load up. Select your language click next than go up top and click on utilities and click on the disk tool. Click on the harddrive name and not the partition, click on erase select mac extended (journaled) and click erase below it. Now make a partition by clicking on partition near the top go down near the bottom and click on options and make sure it is set as MBR (Master Boot Record) and make that partition. Click on the red dot (aka the x button) to close out back to the main menu. Click next then I agree. Now make sure you hit Custom Installation here. Click it. Put a check mark on everything except the bottom one. click on the drop down arrow and de select GUID and Select MBR instead. YAY now click on install! 2) As soon as the installation is complete and the computer restart quickly take out the dvd. hit f8 when prompted again. This time I am going to have you bypass the setup program because it stays on a continues never ending loop. OK so type in: -v -s and wait for everything to load. You should still be at the black scrren with text. Now type in: /sbin/mount -uw / and hit enter. now type in: touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone and hit enter. Now we need to setup the password for the account root. Type: passwd root and hit enter. It will ask what you want the password to be. just put what you want and hit enter again. All done with that! Now its time to see Leopard in action (with the external monitor for now of course). Type exit hit enter. (sometimes you may need to repeat that twice.) It will now load up. for the username type in root then obviously your password. 3) Now that you are in before fixing everything lets get this external monitor out of here. On a different computer go to google and download kext_helper.zip and appleintelgmax3100.kext and appleintelgmaxfb.kext put those on a disk or usb drive and connect it to the laptop. Open kext_helper.zip Once opened drag n drop the 2 kext files onto the opened program, type in the password than click easy install. Reboot the laptop when done and unplug the external monitor! It works on the native screen now! Dont worry about the wrong resolution. Just wait. 4) Insert the kalyway 10.5.2 upgrade combo dvd and install. Not so hard. reboot. (Dont be alarmed when it reboots again by itself when it is partially loaded back up). 5) Now you native monitor is now fully supportive with all resolutions!! Onto the wireless internet. Once again on a different computer go to the realtek website and download the rtl8187b driver for mac osx 10.3 - 10.4 Before we install this we need to delete a text because leopard will get confused. Click on the hardrive and go to system/library/extensions folder and find rtl8187.kext. Move that babey to the trash and empty it! Now install the newly download package and reboot. When we are back on find the terminal either by searching or unless you already know where it is. Open it up. Type these. cd / hit enter cd /system/library/extensions/rtl8187bt.kext/contents hit enter sudo nano info.plist hit enter now use the arrow keys to go up and down. Find near the bottom <integer/>33161</integer> and change the numbers to 33175. when done press control and x. Press y for yes and hit enter. Done. If it doesnt show up already go to applications and click on the realtek app to connect to the internet! (you might need to reboot first). 4) To get the battery icon working follow the instructions here: http://apple2pc.blogspot.com/2008/03/power-management-on-hackintosh.html 5) Congratz!!!! You are now one of very few with a fully working hackintosh laptop! You can now download all the updates and install any program! 6) Now make your own account. Its not the best to be using the root account! Now have fun!!

[edit] Satellite A205-S5859

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2 (also tried Leo4AllV2, which installed slightly easier but had more problems in the installed version)
  • Processor: 2 CPUs detected (1.83GHz Pentium Core 2 Duo).
  • Audio: Working out of the box (did not work with Leo4All).
  • Video: Working out of the box, but no CI/QE; see below for instructions to enable CI/QE.
  • LAN: Ethernet working out of the box.
  • WiFi: Not working! Uses Intel 4965AGN; see here for project to write driver.
  • USB: Works with vanilla and kabyl kernels; speedstep kernel requires re-installation of USB drivers on every boot.
  • Built-in webcam: Detected as USB device, but not working yet.
  • Modem: Not tested
  • ExpressCard slot: Not tested
  • Sleep mode: Computer sleeps successfully, but wakeups sometimes cause hangs (50/50 chance of successful wakeup)
  • How to install:
    • Boot Kalyway with -x option (after pressing F8 to set options); omitting this results in a kernel panic.
    • Select desired options. Note that Intel GMA X3100 video driver works, but without CI/QE (required to watch DVDs, among other things).
    • To get CI/QE video working, see post #181 in this forum thread. Note you'll need Apple's Graphics Update, the AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext from Kalyway (also referred to by user simcolor in that thread), and possibly a Natit.kext referred to earlier in the thread. I did not need the SwitchResX utility referred to by some posters. Note that some configurations can produce an unusable display, so you may need to boot into single-user mode (-s boot option) or log in remotely via SSH (after enabling this feature) to fix a broken configuration.

Resulting system seems to work quite well, aside from lack of Wi-Fi and a non-functional webcam. (See the components HCL for advice on USB Wi-Fi sticks.) Not bad for a $600 laptop.

[edit] Satellite M115-S3144

  • Install Method: Leo4Allv3
  • Chipset: Mobile Intel 945GM Express
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 / 1.6 GHz
  • Audio: Generic, works with AzaliaAudio driver
  • LAN: Intel PRO, used Intel Pro 100 VE driver during install. Wireless = Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. No wireless driver yet.
  • Video: Intel GMA 950 - used GMA950(Old) driver during install
  • SATA & IDE: SATA works with modified IOATAFamily.kext, patched after install
  • System is mildly unstable on this release (mounting/unmounting and sleep functions often hang the system) and there's no wireless driver yet for the built-in wireless.
  • How to install: (If anything major, not the basics)
    1. Since SATA isn't recognized after install, installing to the internal HDD yields the "Still waiting for root device" error after reboot. My solution for this was to install to an external HDD, boot from it, patch the IOATAFamily.kext file, restart, install to the internal drive, reboot to the external, patch the IOATAFamily.kext on the internal drive (via terminal), and reboot from it. Voila, working install.

Install Notes: You must disable multi-core processing within BIOS. Here were the ONLY BIOS settings that I changed from stock: Multi-Core Processing: Disabled (don't freak out we'll turn it back on later) Boot Priority: CD-Rom That's it! Now Save, and Exit BIOS Insert the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc At the Darwin prompt hit F8 and type this in

platform=x86

now hit enter Proceed with a standard OSX86 Install. You must ONLY SELECT INTEL GMA 950 from the graphics drivers customization option. DO NOT SELECT X3100!! I know you want to, but don't! Don't install any sound drivers, WiFi or Ethernet drivers. Do not select any patches, bootflags or fixes. For the most part, it's a very plain install. Evenetually it WILL show you a little screen saying that it installed successfully and is now rebooting. Here is where it gets a little hairy. Enter the BIOS and set the startup driver to HDD Primary or whatever you are using. Save and Exit.At the Darwin prompt hit F8 and follow the procedure listed in the Kalyway Text File to remove the video drivers. Yeah I know you just installed it so why remove them? All I know is that this is what must be done. Then go through the welcome/setup screen. Once booted to the desktop, check the system profiler. It should show 1 core only. Restart the computer and enter the BIOS. Set Multi-core processing to :Enable. Reboot and the profiler should show 2 cores. Now use OSX86 Tools to install all of the above kexts. You will need to use Kexthelper b7 for a few kexts, don't ask me why. Some are just easier that way. Thanks to all ToH for making my computer nerd fantasy come true!
