Template:10.6.0

This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.0 builds only.

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Installation

  • Installed 10.6 via this guide - Installed on MBR/HFS+ via USB Flash Drive
  • Audio added post-install with VoodooHDA (Voodoo Pref panel did not work)
  • Wireless (WDA-2320) worked on boot, LAN not tested, but reported to work fine
  • Added NVInject.kext found in the linked guide, both videocards were functional on boot. I did, however, add the EFI string for the primary videocard during the step in that guide. I installed with a single 8800GT, and added the second one after successfully booting into Snow Leopard

DSDT:

  • I was unable to generate a DSDT.aml without errors, so I used the -f option to force compile. I have had no issues with this DSDT file, and was able to use the CMOS fix

Boot:

  • Used Unofficial Chameleon RC3 installer and the Chameleon RC3 boot file

Kexts:

  • AppleNForceATA.kext
  • AppleSMBIOS.kext
  • Disabler.kext
  • dsmos.kext

Extra Info:

  • At the end of the install process, Snow Leopard returned an error that said it was unable to finish the install (tried twice). I believe this had to do with it trying to set my MBR/HFS+ partition as bootable. Regardless of this error, I was able to boot into Snow Leopard with no issues.
Chameleon RC3 - 32-bit only Almost. Sleep, restart, and shutdown are all functional. Only audio requires the VoodooHDA.kext if you did not install it originally. SLI required NVInject.kext.

(rev. 1.6)

Intel P45 / ICH10R / Jmicron
  • I installed from Retail Copy of SnowLeopard using the Lifehacker Website guide at [63]. The guide has you copy and restore the OSX Install Disc to a USB drive and then install to it; a ZIP file that includes all the customized kexts, edited DSDT and other system files necessary to get this working. Also includes the RC2 version of Chameleon as its bootloader.
  • Bootloader: PC EFI 10.1; bootable at first from a thumbdrive; but included installation package can also be installed to main HD to boot directly.
  • Sound: Realtek ALC889A; fully working with customized kext installer (used when creating your installation USB Drive)
  • LAN : works out of the box on board rev 1.6; previous versions of the board need the NIC that the site recommends you install.
  • FIREWIRE: works out of the box
  • Chipset ICH10R SATA: works OOB (again, courtesy of customized DSDT and kexts from lifehacker)
  • Sleep/Shutdown/Restart function correctly; though at times, I find it "loses" the keyboard or mouse; requiring you to simply unplug and re-plug them in.

  • Download V4 Pack from here -- this pack contains everything you'll need to get UD3L fully working. Follow the UD3R guide by d00m42 from the same link with these changes:
  • Delete /Extra/DSDT.aml before first reboot (the DSDT.aml from V4 Pack is not for your mobo). SL will automatically detect all OOB compatible devices on the UD3L without a DSDT.aml. Make sure to apply "-v -x32" Chameleon flags on first reboot or your system will hang (don't need to apply these flags on subsequent reboots).
  • Work in SL to patch DSDT. Follow instruction from V4 Pack to a tee on how to dump and patch DSDT as the code is compatible with UD3L. Do *not* use "-newHPET" flag to dump DSDT or SL will not detect some PCI devices that otherwise work OOB!
  • To patch for ALC888, use exact content from code.txt in V4 Pack - pay attention to the comments in code.txt for ALC888 and edit accordingly. Replace /Extra/Extensions/LegacyHDA.kext with the LegacyHDA.kext from "4out2ins HDEF headphone" in V4 Pack's "DSDT Stuffs" directory.
  • Reassemble DSDT and run "Kext Utility" from V4 Pack to apply all kext changes.
  • To fix sleep/wake, tick “Restart automatically after a power failure.” box in Energy Saver.
  • If your CPU supports 64-bit, add "arch=x86_64" to /Extra/com.apple.boot.plist. If you see "-x32", remove it. 64-bit mode runs stable on my setup.
  • Easily upgraded to 10.6.2 with this quick guide. Remember to run Kext Utility to refresh kext cache after removing or replacing SleepEnabler.

Installed retail DVD using Empire EFI 1.85 r2 to boot the DVD. (Required GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=1 options to Empire EFI). Created a patched dsdt (following guide at [80]) using an ubuntu live CD which I then added to a Chameleon rc4 USB stick (also using GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=1) -- the dsdt got rid of the "bios settings cleared on reboot" issue and enabled native power management. I'm using the vanilla 32-bit kernel (I'm using a D-Link DWA 556 card, which requires a 32-bit kernel). Update to 10.6.2 worked OOB.

  • CPU - i7 950 at stock speed
  • BIOS - F4
  • RAM - 3x2GB OCZ PC3-12800
  • Audio - Uses voodoohda kext and works (I did *not* modify my dsdt to attempt to enable sound).
  • Ethernet - Worked with Empire EFI, have not tested with Chameleon. No additional kexts required.
  • Firewire - Works OOB, used it successfully w/ the migration assistant
  • Wireless - D-Link DWA 556 -- works OOB.

Issues:

  • You shouldn't bother with the 10.6.0 update.
  • Update straight to 10.6.2 by Hazard.
  • If you do decide to do 10.6.0, you
    • must disable USB Legacy in BIOS!! or your install will never boot.
No, you must use an AMD Kernel. No. Again don't bother with 10.6.0. Go straight to 10.6.2 by Hazard
