This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

System Configuration:
- Model Name: Mac Pro
- Model Identifier: Mac Pro 3,1
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
- GPU: ATI Radeon 6350(HP OEM)
Component Status:
- Audio Works with patch
- Ethernet Works with patch
- Graphics Works with QE/CI
- Dual Monitors using VGA and DVI from Single Video Card
- Only Sleep does not work
Installation Guide:
Default BIOS settings if installation freezes, Disable Legacy USB support
- Boot from DVD
- It will take 5-15 Minutes that you will be stock on the apple loading screen, but it will still load to the installation setup(Be Patient)
- Partition your Hard Disk in the Disk Utility
- Just Install the iAtkos OS X deselect other choices on the customization of your installation
- After login apply the necessary patches.
|
- System Utilities(Repair Permissions)
- Audio = VoodooHDA 0.2.1

- Locate ATI5000Controller.kext and ATIRadeonX3000.kext from /System/Library/Extensions
- Open package content and edit the Contents/Info.plist for both ATI5000Controller.kext and ATIRadeonX3000.kext.
- Edit Info.plist(Need Admin privileges)
- find <key>IOPCIMatch</key><string>...</string> for both kexts
- insert 0x68f91002 inside the <string>...</string> ex.: <string>0x68f91002 ...</string>(note just insert it and do not modify the other strings. Apply step 3, 4, 5 for both kexts)
- then save the modified kexts.
- install them using Kext Utility.
- then Restart
- Additional Note: I use iAtkos L2 so this patch works for 10.7.2 and 10.7.3

Intel Z68

System Configuration:
- Model Name: Mac Pro
- Model Identifier: Mac Pro 3,1
- CPU: Intel i5-2500
- GPU: Nvidia GTS 250 1gb (Intel onboard doesn't work, see notes)
Component Status:
- Audio works with kext [1]
- Ethernet works with kext [2]
- DSDT precompiled just for this mobo [3]
- Only Sleep does not work
Installed with 2 methods, both work 100%: iAtkos L2 and UniBeast 1.1 [4]
iAtkos L2 Installation Guide:
- Insert DVD, let boot. Will take 5-15 minutes to come up. Use Disk Utility to prep your partition for install.
- Proceed. Select the partition you just got ready, then hit Customize. Make sure you select these options [5] (this image is of MultiBeast options, but will get you by for now).
- After install and reboot, you'll see the next setup screens (time zone select, etc). Proceed and you should be at desktop.
- Install your Audio and Network kexts as linked above. Use KextBeast or KextUtility to help. Then use MultiBeast to polish everything off.
- You should be fairly setup now.
UniBeast Installation Guide:
- Approx the same as iAtkos. Only difference is, when you get to setup phase two (after reboot) if everything is going very slow, you'll need to (if you can) load your drive as slave onto a real Mac or another hackintosh, run MultiBeast and install these options to make it work right. [6]
|
- Guide: This guy at tonymacx86 helped me get things working great (except sleep). [7]
- DSDT: Use the DSDT file I linked earlier. Put it on your desktop and use UserDSDT in MultiBeast to install.
- SMBIOS: Do not change the SMBIOS from what is default installed. It should be MacPro3,1 by default. If you try updating it to MacPro5,1 like I did, your Mac will stop booting and you'll have to start over (or clone from a backup like I did)
- Cloning: Speaking of which, once you get to your desktop, I highly recommend making a clone to another partition/USB drive of your hard work so far. I had to reclone 4 times during the process from making mistakes, and my clone image saved me many hours. Use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) or your favorite app.
- Booting: Make sure you are using Chimera v1.7.0 (or higher) for your bootloder instead of Chameleon. Chimera is a fork and is required for your mobo. Its in MultiBeast. I reinstall it everytime I make any MultiBeast changes just to make sure.
- Networking: After installing the networking kext provided earlier, you want to make sure you *COPY* (not move) it in /System/Library/Extensions/ but to do so you'll need to delete the one thats already there first (cannot overwrite) then copy in, then use KextUtility to rebuild caches. Then reboot. If it works after reboot, keep that extra copy nearby. You may have to reinstall it once more at some point (like on an update to 10.7.4) as Apple overwrites them again. For the same reason, keep your audio and other custom kexts too.
- Graphics: Intel Integrated Graphics does not work on setup. I was able to install with iAtkos and UniBeast methods just fine with integrated graphics (no graphics card), but after reboot before setup phase two (time zone select, etc) my system just hung at a big off-white screen with Apple logo in the center. I could move the mouse but never did anything. But as soon as I installed a graphics card (for me, Nvidia GTS 250 from my old build) it worked like a charm right away. I think having GraphicsEnabler in chameleon.plist helped but it may be stock with Apple now. You'll need to handle your own graphics card situation. PS- I never tried the Integrated Graphics again after doing setup because I decided to keep my old graphics card afterall.
- System is LIGHTNING FAST! Here is my full setup and my GeekBench stats:
- Intel i5-2500 @ 4.1 (no k)
- ASrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
- G-SKILL 16gb DDR3-1333 CAS 7-7-7-21 (as 4x 4gb sticks)
- Nvidia GTS 250 1gb
- Crucial M4 SSD 6gbs 64gb & OSX 10.7.3 = System boots cold to ready in < 20 seconds.
- Overclocked i5 from 3.3 to 4.1 ; BCLK from 100mhz to 102mhz. (If I had gotten the i5-2500k instead, I could OC to 4.7+)
- GeekBench Score @ 64-bit SingleTest=11028; 64-bit StressTest peak=14468

Works best with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, PCI Configuration Fix (npci=0x2000) and with the NVIDIA GF100 Fermi Patch. Be sure to select OpenCL Enabler 10.7.2. Don't worry it works fine in 10.7.3. In fact the card runs smoother on 10.7.3! I have tested all the ports and using multiple screens. I even got Minecraft to run at an acceptable framerate!
