This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity.   • USB: Works out of the box
  • Power: SleepEnabler + OpenHaltRestart have shut down, restart & s3 (all fans spin down) sleep working. Using Ev0reboot won't wake from sleep. SpeedStep can not get working, removing NullCPUPower causes kp :(
  • Install process: iBoot + Retail DVD, boot into install again w/ iBoot, download 10.6.4 combo standalone installer (don't use SU!) and don't reboot! Run MultiBeast w/ non-DSDT easy option. Now booting w/o iBoot remove ev0reboot and install other needed kext.

  • 2. BIOS setup: SATA to AHCI ; HDD install MAC need connect to SATA port 1 and Disable other HDD ; CPU ratio=20 (with i7 920 - read more [9]) ; Disable all CPU feature ; ACPI 2.0 enable ; S3 support enable.
  • 3. First boot with iBoot then Install with SL 10.6.3 RETALL DVD (use -x -v if need)
  • 4. Boot to MAC Update to 10.6.4 and install MultiBeast (use Custom DSDT) > Restart
  • 5. Install other Kexts
  • 6. Resetting BIOS: Enabled all HDD, CPU Features, CPU ratio and Enabled all VGA! (only them)

Install Method: Starting from an existing bootable Leopard installation, I imaged a retail Snow 10.6.0 DVD to a 10GB partition on one of my SATA drives, patched it with myHack and replaced the kernel with mach_kernel.test7. (The chocolate kernel which comes with myHack did not work.) I booted from this new "Snow Installer" partition, installed Snow on another partition, (ignoring the error at the end of the installation) and rebooted back into my Leopard installation to patch the "Snow" drive with myHack and mach_kernel.test7. I then installed the noted kexts (on the right) using Kext Helper b7 where applicable, and installed all software updates available from under the Apple menu, all of which ran without errors.

Note that while audio works in 2-channel mode with the AzaliaAudio extensions, the volume controls on the keyboard and in the sound menu do not function; volume must be adjusted either via application specific volume controls (such as those provided within iTunes or Quicktime) or via the Sound System Preferences pane.

Started without any Mac OS X installation. With ACHI and ACPI 2.0 enabled and HD and DVD-RW connected with SATA (recommended, with PATA not tested) I booted up with Nawcom Mod boot cd, switching with the Mac OS X install DVD retail when need and then got trough the installation smooth. On the customize section of the installation there's some patches already chosen (which the boot cd loads automatically and select them according to the hardware detected), where I just added the Jmicron chip set patch. Then the installation ran ok 'till the end. When the system restart it boots up automatically (Chameleon RC5 is installed out of the box with this Mod CD with .kext already loaded on /Extra folder) the video QE/CI is already activated and HD sounds works great (both patches are already installed from the loaded CD). The chip set runs smooth with the patched preinstalled, no replacement needed.

Note that while audio works in 5.1-channel mode with the VoodooHDA.kext, the volume controls on the keyboard do not function. The volume menu in the menu bar works perfectly; Video may run a little buggy if you run with lower mem than 256mb. All applications runs correctly (except Google Chrome that crashes on every flash contents accessed). Final Cut Pro and Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5 works with no problems or bugs.

Install instructions:

  • first you should read my former written instructions about the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 - you can do this either here or on InsanelyMac or even here in this Wiki: Using "myHack installer" with additional custom kext files
  • now that you've read the basic procedure you should go fine with this package of files and the following instructions:
  • First prepare the USB drive and install myHack onto it
  • in the myHack installer also tick the options: IOATAFamily.kext and ApplePS2Controller (this time and when you install it onto your Hackintosh's harddrive)
  • Once you've done this you can proceed with installing your Hackintosh from USB drive, when the installer finished boot from your harddrive as described then install myHack again, but on your Hackintosh's internal harddrive
  • Now proceed with this steps:
  • There are two additionally kexts you'll need to get several thing running, but you need to install them only on your harddrive (it's absolutely unnecessary to install them onto your USB install drive as well):
  • First: VoodooHDA - Copy this to your /System/Library/Extensions folder by using the terminal and "cp -R" as root (IT MUST BE THIS FOLDER NOT /Extra/Extensions !! if you don't like it to be there you can try this but I haven't tested it) - this file will enable your onboard sound card (even if the System-Profiler tells you that there's no sound card installed: it works! - look at one of the screenshots in the package)
  • Second: JMicronATA - This can be copied to /Extra/Extensions - it's responsible for the JMicron Controller onboard (e.g. IDE attached harddrives/optical drives)
  • then rebuild the kextcache from your terminal with the two commands:
    • kextcache -v 1 -m /S/L/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/

Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions

    • kextcache -v 1 -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/Extensions
  • if everything went well you should now be able to boot from your harddrive without needing the USB drive and everything should work - the next two files are purely cosmetic
  • SMBIOS.plist -> /Extra (it tells Mac OS that your Hackintosh is a Mac Pro - edit this file before copying with cp -R and change the serial number in the file)
  • Apple Theme -> /Extra/Themes - delete the Default folder and rename the Apple folder to Default - Chameleon boot menu should look like the original Apple boot menu now
  • At least update with Apple's usual updater to 10.6.4 and install all other patches

What works/What works not:

  • convince yourself :D
  • I would say "everyhing" except ethernet (that's why I've bought a PCI-E ethernet adapter - now it work)
  • Some bugs when using optical drive (attached over IDE) maybe because of the JMicron kext
  • additionally the graphics card isn't perfectly running, so just pick a better one from the information given on this page
