macOS 10.8.1 Hardware Compatibility
|
|
|
This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.8.1 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.
- ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
- Please add hardware into tables.
- This is for 10.8.1 builds only.
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!
Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

[edit] eMachines E730G
- Bootloader: Chameleon Enoch-rev-2054
- Kernel: Vanilla 64-bit mach_kernel and extensions.
- Kexts: most of them downloaded from osx86.net
- Issues: HDMI only on GE=No with resolution of 800 x 600 & 1 mb video RAM, KP on Sleep
- Installed on a MBR boot partition as I already had Win 7. I used modified OSI Insall package for MBR to be able to install under MBR. I did clean install using USB drive. I made install package in one USB thumb drive and installed Chameleon boot loader in another USB drive.

- Installation Method: Installer created on external HDD partition. Updated to 10.8.1 with installer downloaded from Apple downloads. Triple boot with Windows 7 SP1 & Linux Mint 12.
- Bootloader: Chameleon 2.1 for OS X, GRUB 1.99 for the system (Chameleon invoked via chainloader).
- Kexts: AppleHDA, AppleACPIBatteryManager, GenericBrightness, AppleACPIPS2Nub, VoodooPS2Controller & AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.
- Notes:
- Custom DSDT and kexts obtained from this thread.
- Shutdown, Restart and Sleep works (DSDT edits).
- AHCI (for SATA) and Always On (for fan) were present by default in BIOS.
- For internet, I use a USB broadband modem (ZTE) which works without a glitch.

[edit] Lenovo
- Install Method: 10.8.0 DVD. Updated to 10.8.1 without Problem
- my particular model comments shown indented after original
- USB method and AppStore ML 10.8. Updated to 10.8.1 and then to 10.8.2 without problem (both OTA, not combo updates)
- Bootloader: Chameleon (not working, boot from USB only)
- Chameleon working with following method: Completely re-formatted hdd to MBR, 4 primary partitions (2x Win7, 1x Linux Mint 13, 1x OS X hpf+). Used backup one-key DVD's to restore Win7, including Win7's bootloader. Installed Linux Mint 13 which installed grub2 in place of Win7 bootloader, Win7 appears in grub OS list and boots. Format last partition to hpf+, used Super-Duper backup to restore OS X to this partition - Chameleon/Chimera does not install. Boot to Linux and added grub entry to chainload Chameleon, got boot0 error, searched web and using terminal this time, copied (dd if= of=) boot1h to OS X partition, now boots grub2 -> Chimera 1.11 -> OSX. Think the problem is in the new hdd block sizes. I did not necessarily want to triple-boot, but found that if you disable wifi in BIOS, it will disable the card in Linux (wi-fi and bluetooth) and OSX (bluetooth only, since wifi not working anyway), and there is no way to turn it back on without Win7.

No support due to firmware issue
- Bluetooth on this card does work and was able to connect to BT speakers w/o issue. Get KP sometimes which I think was related to BT prefpane that wants to auto-connect to keyboard and/or mouse. Bluetooth seems to take up to a minute to initialize (BT icon goes from "broken" symbol to full BT symbol during desktop start-up). Disabled both those (in prefpane-> bluetooth->advanced and uncheck both options), seems to be more stable now.
