This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.

G41M-VS3 R2.0 Intel G41 System Configuration:
  • CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5800 3.2GHz (But Mac OS X thinks, that I have only 2.8GHz CPU)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon HD6670 1GB (I didn't check onboard Intel GMA X4500)

Component Status:

  • Audio (VIA VT1705) works with VooDooHDA kext
  • Ethernet (Atheros AR8152/8158) works with ALXEthernet 1.0.2 kext, but system cannot start for first time after first reboot. After second reboot it working normally.
  • Note: I updated to 10.8.4 via Software Update. Everything works normally, so if you'll decide to install Mac OS X 10.8.4 on hardware like mine, you'll not have problems with kexts (kexts for Ethernet and Audio for 10.8.3 works with 10.8.4).

X79 Fatal1ty Professional Intel X79 System Configuration:
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 3.6GHz (But Mac OS X thinks, that I have only 3.2GHz CPU)
  • GPU: NVidia 670GTX SLI (Didn't tried to enable SLI though, I'm currently using Apple driver, so I think I have to install NVidia ones to be potentially able to enable it)

Component Status:

  • On-Board Audio works with modified AppleHDA kext
  • On-Board Ethernet works with modified IONetworkingFamily kext
  • On-Board Marvell SATA Controller works with AHCIPortInjector kext
  • Core i7 8 Cores are recognized with VoodooTSCSync kext
  • Using custom Asrock X79 DSDT for BIOS 1.5 (I'm using BIOS 2.2 and it works)
  • NullCPUPowerManagement mandatory, because there is no CPU Power management working on X79, only two states, Idle and Full.
  • Note: I updated to 10.8.4 via Software Update. Almost everything works normally (Ethernet and Audio are broken post-install), so if you'll decide to install Mac OS X 10.8.4 on hardware like mine, you won't really run into troubles (excepted for kexts for Ethernet and Audio that have to be reapplied after 10.8.4 combo update though)

  • REMOVE ANY GRAPHICS CARDS OR MEMORY ABOVE 8GB OR ANY PCI CARDS COMPLETELY FROM MOBO
  • Make a USB Drive with 10.8.2 ML and boot it up must be guid partition for the USB Drive, Then Combo Update 10.8.4, Then MultiB with only userDSDT checked. DO NOT RESTART UNTIL YOU HAVE DONE ALL OF THE PRIOR STEPS! http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
  • Installed with default uefi settings. This board detects only one boot medium at a time so if you have multiple hard drives dissconnect all but the one your going to use before install then reconnect after installations.

  • First, installed 10.8.3 (remember to set GraphicsEnabler=No), as it's the first version to support the AMD Radeon 7770.
  • Had to delete /S/L/E/AppleIntelHD* to make the iGPU work, as you need it to boot. After making the USB disk, had also to remove these kexts. Set iGPU as primary and PCIx as secondary GPU (iGPU+PCE setting at BIOS). Upgraded from 10.8.3 to 10.8.4 via Software Update.

  • Install Method : First, install the OS, I put the OS on a single disk and CCC onto the RAID 0. but boot up the installer, 1 partition, guid the usual, finish install, update to 10.8.4. use the extra folder from the root of the usb installer, drop it to the root of your hard drive. install kexts in Patched-12D78.zip from Resources Post intall with KextWizard to S/L/E. Drop your specific DSDT from Resource post into the root of your Extra folder. Install Chameleon to the ML drive, Repair Permissions & Rebuild Cache on both Extra & S/L/E. Install Web Drivers for CUDA / OpenGL. For bootable RAID 0 follow directions in link Bootable RAID 0.

  • Install Method : I already had Windows 7 install on this desktop. before doing anything i unplugged the hdd as to make sure not to corrupt any data. then, update the bios to 3402 from the asus website. then after i updated the bios i updated it again with the same version (unrestricted) from biosrepo wordpress. then i finished as normal.
  • Up until I had a stable OS 10.8 I did not have any monitors plugged into the HD 7770. BEFORE YOU START. change the video setting in the bios to IGFX until you have a stable os!

  • Originally the install broke my Ethernet port for windows 7 and OSX 10.8. but after i unplugged myself from the router and connect directly to the modem i was able to install updates from both OS's that enabled it to work with the router
  • AMD's HD 7xxx are now supported in OSX 10.8. follow this guide to set up your graphics card.

  • Buy OS X Installer from App Store, use Pandora Box to prepare image onto USB. No need to bundle any kexts, drivers, etc. unless you're using PS/2 keyboard or mouse, etc.
  • Boot from Installer (you'll need to use GraphicsEnabler=No dart=0). Install, reboot.
  • Boot into OS X (you'll need GraphicsEnabler=No dart=0)
  • Install audio kexts (not quite sure if you need them)
  • Run Chameleon Wizard. Add themes if desired, modify SMBios if desired, go to "org.Chameleon.boot.plist" section, check boxes for "dart=0", uncheck "GraphicsEnabler=Yes".
