This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.

  • Make sure you try different USB ports for your install media if you get waiting for root device at boot--El Capitan has a proclivity for disabling some ports depending on your SMBIOS. I finally had luck by changing the header my front panel USB 2.0 ports were attached to.
  • All USB ports can be fixed later: Minimal modifications to Clover generated DSDT--renamed EHC1 and EHC2 to EH0 and EH02 respectively to fix USB 2.0 ports. Kext patching not needed with this DSDT method -- changing the name in DSDT causes the port restriction to not apply to them.
  • Enable ACPICPUPM patch to obviate need for NullCPUPowerManagement.kext
  • Only kexts needed were FakeSMC.kext and RealTekRTL8111.kext
  • Using MacPro6,1 SMBIOS

Installation - Clean install 10.11.0 -> upgraded via app store to 10.11.1

  • Clover OS X El Capitan
  • Bootloader: Clover using injected kexts in ESP.
  • Asus VBIOS downloaded from TechPowerUp [1], renamed to /EFI/CLOVER/ROMS/1002_6798.rom . Load VBIOS must be ON.

Installation - Upgrade using App Store process I had some initial luck with this, but I later reformatted and did a clean install to be completely sure I was rid of any remnants of having used TonyMacX86 crapware earlier. Make sure you have clover boot from the new install partition on its first restart.

“OS X 10.11 El Capitan Bootable USB for Intel PCs” - standard installation.

BIOS:

  • v2204
  • Configure SATA as AHCI
  • Disable Max CPUID value limit
  • Enable Repost Video on S3 resume

Installation:

  • Install Clover to HDD, standard installation. Update to 10.11.1 from Apple Store successfully
  • Ethernet: Realtek RTL8111 Binary 1.2.2 Final
  • Audio: Voodoo HDA 2.8.7 (remove AppleHDA.kext)
  • PS2 Keyboard: RehabMan Voodoo PS2 2015-11-07
  • ATA: ApplePCIIDE.kext.zip modified by MacGTO: /topic/280575-jmicronata/
  • Add FakeSMC and you’re done. Make sure you change the default audio device on system preferences.

Note: For some reason I dunno yet, when I enter Updates tab on App Store, my mouse stops working. I didn’t notice it in the beginning because I always have 2 mice connected and the 2nd keeps working. Both are usb mice. I tried USB legacy on and off.

Unfortunately i could not get the S/PDIF to work, i tried EnableHDMIAudio Yes and some other flags and things in clover but it wouldn't work. Stuck using the 3.5MM jack

-> Create the USB Install Disk, add Clover Boot Loader to it, with the options:

  • SMBIOS: MacPro3,1

  • INSTALLER KEXTS ( to EFI > CLOVER > kexts > 10.11 )

  • Install and Reboot, Boot again the USB Install, but choose the newly installed Hard Drive.

Post Install:

-> Install Clover to the Current Hard Drive with the following options:

  • BOOT: darkwake, dart=0, nvda_drv=1, kext-dev-mode=1
  • SMBIOS: MacPro3,1
  • DRIVERS UEFI 64BIT: CsmVideoDxe, OsxAptioFix2Drv and VBoxHfs

  • 4) Install NVIDIA® Web Driver for OSX ® 10.11.1
  • 5) TRIM: Open Terminal, “ sudo trimforce enable ”, will ask you to accept, then reboot. In order to check if it is working, after reboot type in the Terminal " system_profiler SPSerialATADataType | grep 'TRIM' "
