Jump to: navigation, search

This is a hardware compatibility list for 10.5.1 builds. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.1 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Kernels are available for most configured machines.

See the x86 software page for programs you can run without Rosetta.

Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)

T7200 2.0Ghz, Realtek HD Audio, 2GB Ram, Intel Pro Wireless, Realtek 8168/8111 Ethernet, ICH7-M chipset, Geforce 7700 512MB, bluetooth.

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1 on a primary partition sharing the same HD as WinXP.Intalled without using a virtual machine.

Video: Had to install the latest 512 driver from nvinject. works perfect, 2 simultaneous monitors (notebook LCD and DVI output tested). Audio: Works with Azalia out. bluetooth, firewire, LAN: Out of the box. Power off and standby works perfectly I've installed Final Cut Pro 2, Motion, etc. Everything works real time.

Asus G1-AK024C

(This is for the original with the T7200 and GeForceGo7700)

  • Install Method : Kalyway 10.5.1. Installed it on USB hard drive, works perfecly (Use NVinject's 0.2.0 512Mb version or later, if you use those from Kalyway you'll have to start in -x (Safe mode) to install them)
  • Processor : Core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2GHz. Both core enabled.
  • No sound from the original installation, will have to try with Kalyway's and third-party's drivers.
  • nVidia GeForce Go 7700, normally have 512Mb + 700-some Mb shared for memory, Darwin sees 256. Otherwise, it looks like it's fully working, except for weird lines and color changes after the Apple logo (dont know if the color change is normal in Leopard, but the lines aren't). As indicated in Install Method, use NVinject's 0.2.0 512Mb or later.
  • Since it's basically the same laptop as the G1S, I won't list the other components because they are all the same things. Only tried WiFi (doesn't work).
  • Power management doesn't work either, no battery meter but sleep does work. Takes a long time to reboot or shutdown, may be caused by the USB connection.

Asus G1S-A1

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1 (no acpi) w/ EFI. remove old ACPI kext's and replace them with kext's from 10.4.8. Also, remove all Firewire kext's. Eventually you should be able to boot with either cpus=1 or cpus=1 -f. No Safe Mode!
  • Processor: Core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2.2GHz. Only one core though (cpus=1 at boot).
  • ALC660 built-in sound works, microphone doesn't, don't know about SPDIF.
  • LAN works natively.
  • Wireless doesn't have a driver yet. People are cracking away at the Intel 4965.
  • nVidia 8600M GT works with nvinject 0.2.0 fix (QE/CI, all compatible resolutions enabled)
  • Flash Card reader doesn't work natively, haven't tried finding drivers. (brand: RICOH afaik)
  • DVD Burning works natively.
  • Bluetooth works natively.
  • Webcam works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. besides iChat I haven't tried 3rd-party applications.
  • SATA built-in HD works, eSATA doesn't.
  • HDMI works natively full HD resolution - 1920x1080. Tried it with my 42" Sharp Aquos LCD.
  • No powermanagement natively (No battery meter, no sleep). I haven't tweaked it yet though, it may be possible.

Did I leave anything out? Stuck? Any Questions? PM me at the insanelymac forums id:soupcancooloff . .

Inspiron 1720

Install method: iATKOS 10.5.1; Core 2 Duo 2Ghz+2Ghz/3Gb ram/160Gb Hitachi 7200HDD; WLAN, LAN, Bluetooth, USB works put of the box; Video NVidia 8400M worked after installation of NVinject 0.2.1 resolution switchable, 32 bits; Shut down, Restart, Sleep modes doesn't work, Actually shut down partly does, but I have to manually switch off the computer by pressing and holding Power button. Audio - no audio at all (No audio input in system preferences displayed) SigmaTel 9025HD audio. Mouse pad works, mouse tapping not. Keyboard shortcuts partly work. Something wrong with battery counter, cause in Vista it served for over 3h, in OSX though, approx just 2h under 'better energy savings' . Despite above listed issues, overall OSX on my Dell runs like crazy: 700Mb video file was encoded 4 times (!) faster than in previous PowerBook 4-1.67/2Gb/17inch/120Gb... The OSX completely loads in 25 seconds. I was amazed, just hope in the next month to fix audio problem. Hope to install on HP ZT3300 as well, already tried, but can't start installation, some strange message appears, sounds like: 2 modules re using the same ACPI settings... . . . . . . . . A week later: I enforced to function audio as well. Now I can play music, movies, the mic input though doesn't work. . .

Method 2

Install Method: iATKOSv1r2 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz Memory: 1GBx2 Storage: 160 GB Serial ATA Video: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT w 256Mb of RAM/17 " display Native Resolution of 1440x900 @ 60Hz Module Bay: TSST DVD+RW Combo Drive Ethernet: Broadcom 440x Wireless: Intel 3945 a/b/g Boots up normally and installs nicely with Darwin EFI and stock kernel. Must either turn off ethernet for first boot or transfer your settings from a time machine backup in order to avoid a continuous intro/video loop. Ethernet works out of the box, but wireless doesn't and as of the moment still doesn't. Video and sound just need some tweaking. You can fix your video with NVinstallerv33 or 44, I've tested both, and both work, 44 gives you a few more options but I noticed no difference in performance. You will notice a problem with your reboot after you install it, it doesn't affect the usability of your hack book it just causes you to hit reboot and then once the screen goes black manually power off your laptop. See insanely mac's AppleHDA section in regards to the sound. You have to put an edited AppleHDA.kext in your extentsions folder and then repair permissions via Disk Utility. The only thing that works after this is your actual playback of sound. It doesn't allow you to mute, but you can use your volume up/down media keys on the front of your laptop (if you have them :) ). Easily updatable using a kaly combo update or netkas method to updating.

Inspiron 1520

  • Intel T7250 processor, 2x1gb RAM

  • LAN: worked out-of-the-box
  • Video: GeForce 8400M GS, everything working with NVInject
  • Shortcut buttons working
  • No battery monitoring, Bluetooth present, but no wifi (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945abg)
  • USB ports working, DVD burner working
  • System seems to crash after 15 minutes, it seems like it crashes whenever it attempts to sleep/enter some low power consumption mode . . .

Inspiron e1405

Inspiron 1420

  • Install Method: Uphuck iATKOSr2
  • Audio only one headphone jack works
  • nVidia Geforce 8400 M GS QE/CI working and resolution is changeable .
  • Using a Dell 1505 wireless card that works natively with airport.
  • Everything else is working including the pc card port, webcam, quick access buttons, sd card reader, video out.

Inspiron 5100

  • Spec: 2.53Ghz Northwood SSE2 ONLY!, 1GB RAM, SVGA+ LCD, ATI 7500 32MB, 80GB HD
  • Install Method: iATKOS 10.5.1r3 (patched to BAD BIOS) DVD (MBR)
  • ATI Mobility 7500 works partially (NO QE) with older driver pack.
  • Internal NIC & WLAN Works (use older kext and edit). Installed internal Truemobile 1350 WLAN.
  • PC Card (not tested)
  • DVD+R Internal Philips working
  • Time Machine did loop through installation until I got another working (10.5.10) image and imported the User Profile (only!) via external USB. . .

Similar experience. More details (by skyy99).

  • Spec: 2.4Ghz Northwood SSE2 ONLY!, 512 MB RAM, XGA LCD, ATI 7500 32MB, 30GB HD
  • Install Method: iATKOS 10.5.1r2 + Equate1 patch + BadBios (commonly referred to as iAtkos 10.5.1r3+BadBios).
  * Install tips:
     * Move the mouse every few minutes (possibly clicking on menus) to avoid sleep (which causes a restart).
     * Select X86 Darwin bootloader (no other bootloaders)
     * Select SSE2/SSE3 kernal (no other kernel patches)
     * Select Broadcomm 440x network patch (no others)
     * Select Remove CPUPowerManagement (very important otherwise you'll get endless boot cycle)
  • There'll be a long pause after starting the install during which the 10.5.1 install package is being validated. Just keep the mouse moving. If you get an error (giant triangle) saying couldn't validate the install, you have a bad burn (or bad iso). Check the MD5s and re-burn and < 4x speed (this happened to me).
  • ATI Mobility 7500 works immediately after install (no old driver needed). But don't know about QE.
  • Internal NIC works also (again no additional driver needed).
  • USB works.
  • PC Card (not tested)
  • CDRW/DVD working (CDRW capabilities recognized).
  • Firewire works great.
  • No power management. So no monitor shut off or proper sleep. But if you set it to sleep and try to wake, I couldn't get it to revive. So no sleep for this hackintosh.
  • I had a lot of drivers I had to find and apply after installing Jas 10.4.8. But this all works without extra effort immediatel after install.

Inspiron 5150

  • Spec: 3.06Ghz Northwood SSE2 ONLY (without HT)!, 512 MB RAM, SVGA+, GeForce FX5200, 80GB HD
  • Install Method: iAtkos 10.5.1r3+BadBios dual boot with WinXP (follow instructions for Inspiron 5100 above)
  • Audio works fine
  • nVidia Geforce FX5200 is working (NO QE ), NVinstaller v41 was installed
  • WLAN, Ethernet are working great.
  • USB is working
  • CD-DVD works.

Inspiron 5160

  • Audio and LAN working out of the box
  • Onboard FX5200 GO video works with NVinjectGO 0.1.0
  • Install method: ToH RC2 - Update per How To to 10.5.1 . . .

Inspiron 6000

  • Install Method: Kalyway DVD & EFI
  • Processor: Pentium M
  • Chipset: Intel 915
  • Video: ATI Mobility Radeon X300
  • Wifi: Internal Intel 2200B/G I believe
  • SD Card Reader doesn't work
  • Firewire works
  • Dual boot works with Windows Xp Media center edition 2005 on the same HD, and used MBR and SSE2

Result & Tips:

Wiggle the mouse during install (every 5 mins or so) to avoid the Dell sleeping
Formatted the drive with a single partition and GUID
Do NOT use spaces in the label for the partition / hard drive (I used "Dell OSX 86" which failed, and "Dell_OSX_86" which worked)
Select SSE2 from the install options (the Kalyway installer) and nothing else
At this point, video works at 1024x800, Ethernet works, trackpad works, DVD works, Fn buttons for volume and brightness work, audio works.
At this point, Wifi Doesn't work, and also iCal is broken.

   Downloaded http://z0rz.com/files/ATIScript.z0rz.v0.1.zip
Follow the instructions and selected options "none 1280x1024x32 1 0" gave higher resolution
   Tried re-installing iCal using Pacifist, hasn't worked. . . .

Inspiron 6000

  • Install Method: Kalyway DVD & EFI
  • Processor: Pentium M
  • Chipset: Intel 915
  • Video: Intel 915GM
  • Wireless: Intel 2200B/G

Problems during install:

  • Install would freeze at blue screen (after gray loading screen) do to the external monitor problem.
  • Had to shake the mouse periodically otherwise install would stop responding.
  • Had to formatted the drive (Journaled) as MBR; GUID gave me a "b0" error on boot.

Worked "Out of the Box":

  • Video (1024x800 / 32-bit resolution)
  • Ethernet
  • Touchpad
  • CD/DVD+RW (reading and writing)
  • Some Fn Buttons (brightness)
  • Media Buttons (volume)
  • Sleep

  • If you "upgraded" from a previous version of OS 10, you may be faced with the problem of not being able to log in. Your passwords will not work including not having a password. You must boot into -s mode, reset the root password, reboot to the login screen, login as root with your new password, change the other User passwords or eliminate the other Users and create new ones to replace them. See here http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_reset_my_mac_os_x_admin_root_password.html for a few methods of dealing with this.

Relevant post from the URL above: ...

    1. restart your computer
    2. hold down Command-s (Ctrl-s on Windoze keyboard)

Type in the following:

    1. /sbin/fsck -y [Enter]
    2. /sbin/mount -uaw [Enter]
    3. rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]
    4. reboot [Enter]

Once you've done that the computer reboots and ask you to set up an admin password. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!

  • Broadcomm BCM57xx wired ethernet NOT working (using linksys USB200 dongle as a workaround)
  • Sleep/Resume works great
  • Will only boot with dual cores disabled
  • Geforce go 7200 works fantastic

  • CPU: T7600 working fine at 2.33GHz
  • Will only boot with dual cores disabled
  • Geforce Go 7300 works via nvinject

Precision M6300

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.1
  • Initial boot with this install image works but dies as soon as all the drivers and modules are loaded, com.apple.acpi.* panic.
  • Tried disabling virtualization and CPU execution bit but nothing.
  • Disabling the multicore support on the BIOS is what allows the operating system to try to boot without a kernel panic, but the whole thing comes to a screeching halt after an IOAPIC message. No matter what I try, the result is the same. I was unable to get around this problem.
  • However, Kalyway works fine (though very slow) on another laptop (Compaq C571NR). By creating an install to a USB disk (make sure it's partitioned as an MBR partition and ONLY use the MBR boot customization) and then bringing the USB disk to this laptop, it works.
  • After updating the 10.5.2 and using the NVidia 4.1 driver installer, the box screams light along like a bat out of hell.
  • Ran all of the Apple Software Updater updates for 10.5.2, machines purrs right along.
  • Wireless works right out of the box.

Sound - Realtek High Definition Audio (Device Id:0862) - NOT working - looks like ok but no output (Maybe this patch can fix the problem ?) Sound can work after putting the laptop to sleep

Ethernet - Broadcom NetLink Fast Ethernet (Broadcom 590x 10/100) - NOT working

Wireless - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG - NOT working .

Card Reader - Not Tested . . . . . . . . . . .

for iDeneb 10.5.4 the vanila kernel is not working ... the driver for lan and wifi is still working in progress the audio card works perfect after instaling the right driver(strange but you have to patch the wrong driver and deleteit after that the driver works ) the video works out of the box... card reader... not working bluetooth works out of the box the power management works but no estimation of the time... there is a problem with the cooling sistem ..if you start cold the fan is not starting and the computer super heats...you need to restart and the fan starts and remains on forever... the firewire is a cool alternative for lan... . .

Lenovo 3000 Y410

iAtkos works, every version except corrupted images.. (DUH!!) and I have tried Kalyway 10.5.1, but after install must boot with -v -x for the first time, otherwise there will be eternal Apple logo. Kalyway did not include GMA X3100 drivers, so after install you need to install on your own.

Updated to 10.5.5 and 9.5.0 kernel via Delta Update from iAtkos v4i install.

Broadcom built in Ethernet, Intel 3945ABG WiFi, Internal card reader, modem do not work. Bluetooth and sound (only internal speakers work. line in doesnt work) work after a sleep and wake, but it does not sleep as usual, it wakes after 1sec. You must use the MacBook AppleSMBIOS.kext revision 6 for sleep to even wake up! You will get a frozen system if you don't

If you want to install any version of iAtkos, you need an already working OS X partition to install Chameleon bootloader on it, or you can use the Darwin Boot application in the iAtkos v1.0i DVD. OTHER VERSIONS OF IATKOS DO NOT HAVE DARWIN BOOT APP IN IT!

I installed my iAtkos on a USB drive, then used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the iAtkos to the internal drive. Windows was not affected. If you install directly to the internal drive, you need to do a reinstall or repair of Vista. Remember, the Lenovo Product Recovery DVD does not do any repair, so yuo need to download the Repair CD from somewhere, or download a copy of Vista, or get an Install DVD (not Recovery DVD. Select Repair Computer and select Command prompt and key in this code

diskpart -- select disk 0 -- select partition 1 -- active -- exit -- bootrec /rebuildbcd -- y --

That should make vista partition active again. And then key in this code again.

diskpart -- select disk 0 -- select partition 2 -- active -- exit --

(* -- means enter )

Reboot then done

Another trick if you are using vista in the first partition and install OS X in the second. After install OS X use acronis Disk Director boot CD and change vista partition to primary active and then change OS X partition to primary. You should be able to boot vista without any problems.

for internet i am using a Netgear WG111v3, works with drivers, detected as Ethernet Controller. But you can also try Bluetooth Dial Up from OS X to phone . . . .

Used: iATKOS v1.0ir2 + EQAUTE r3 Patch (Must apply both patches in order to get this to DVD boot!)

What works:

  • LAN
  • Audio
  • Trackpad+Red "nipple"
  • Volume controls/Fn Brightness controls
  • USB
  • WIFI: cannot get Leopard to recognize Thinkpad Wi-Fi card; replaced with Dell TrueMobile card (no1802 fix; Broadcom 4318 chipset) and works out of box

What does not:

  • Onboard video (Radeon 7500; works but not fully supported; no QE/CI; no AGP support in Leopard (couldn't get AGPGart to work/callisto buggy)
  • Sleep mode (either install RadeonTool.kext and have the laptop reboot on wake or suffer with a pseudo-sleep mode that turns off LCD on lid close); largely software-controlled (worked with Windows with Thinkpad ACPI driver)
  • Modem (software-controlled; only works with Windows)

  • Time Machine DOES NOT work. I believe it is because there is no CI support.
  • Overall, system runs at acceptable speed, but not recommended for any video playback. .

-- Used the above configuration with success. Some additional points:

  • Had to use -x to launch installer
  • Used this setup: Darwin X86 Bootloader, netkas smbios, Remove thermal and power drivers, sse2 kernel.

-- Just tried 10.5.1 on a T43, and in verbose mode everything works great until you get to the first blue screen, then a whole lotta nothin'. .

-- Just used 10.5.1 on my T43, install went great, boots fine, sound buttons don't work for me, sound, Ethernet, keyboard, pointing devices, and video (non-accelerated) work OOB. People with Intel GFX need to connect their machines to an external monitor to get past the whole lot of nothing mentioned above. The Intel wireless isn't fully supported yet however there are BIOS hacks available to install a third party minipci wireless card that is supported. .

-- Used the plain-jane Kalyway 10.5.1 disk on my ATI gfx T43, and it installs without a hitch. I then used the 10.5.2 Kalyway comboupdate without any issues. I'm not too worried about getting up to 10.5.3+ yet, but I'll post what happens if I try. I posted the link to the wireless driver above, but take note that it'll kill your 10.5.1 system.... so get up to 10.5.2 before playing with it. No big deal to recover, just mv out the iwi2200 kext. After I updated to 10.5.2 my wireless is working like a champ. I'm currently stuck at 1024x768 video, and looking at ways to get around it.... will post an update if I do, but I'm not very optimistic. Otherwise the machine flys w/OSX! Below are my install notes for ATI gfx machines.

When you're installing, in the options, make sure you select:

  • SSE2 System
  • Audio -> Azalia Audio
  • MBR

You don't need to select any of the video drivers since the built-in card is "supported" but you'll be stuck at 1024x768. .

  • * * * * * * Install of 10.5.1 * * * * * * *

i've finally done it, i've installed KALYWAY 10.5.1 intel/AMD SSE2/SSE3 on my ThinkPad T43, and have a dual boot XP/LEOPARD,

  • the KALYWAY 10.5.2 doen't work at all

it was a matter of right configuration.

i have an ATI X600 and a 60 Gb HDD,

  • First 20 Gb as Principal Partition for Windows XP (already installed)
  • Seconde 20 Gb as Principal Partition for LEOPARD (MAC OS Extented Filesystem Journalized)

- - - - the bios settings - - - -

  • i loaded my bios settings to default, then proceeded to some changes :
  • SpeedStep Thechnologie : Disabled
  • Execution Prevention : Enabled
  • CD-ROM Speed : Hight (because it blocs during the install otherwise)

- - - - the installation settings - - - - - boot the DVD without any param at darwin prompt and the laptop was AC connected (no Battery) otherwise it blocs at Darwin load. - use disk utilities to erase the OSX partition using MAC OS Extented Filesystem Journalized

  • Kernel : Vanilla ACPI Reboot Fix (only)
  • SSE2 System
  • Audio Driver : Azalia Audio-OUT (only)
  • Bootloader : MBR (only)

Enjoy the install, it's about 40 min or less Everything excepts the wireless worked quite fine.

  • * * * * * * Update to 10.5.3 * * * * * * *

i've updated to 10.5.3 using KALYWAY 10.5.3 ComboUpdate and it worked quite fine too,

  • launch the ComboUpdate package first, once finished don't click restart,
  • then launch the kernel package, and unselect all options
  • once finished restart,
  • and at Darwin prompt (F8) tape "update -v" whithout cote

it will take about 1 or 2 minute, and then reboot automaticaly. That's all folks . . . . . .

The ONLY option I selected at Install Customization is EFI MBR Bootloader. As far as I understand, this means that the kernel installed is NOT the vanilla kernel. After the installation is complete the machine might not boot, or constantly reboot. I managed to get past that point by going in the BIOS (F1 at startup) and disabling multicore support (under CPU), and putting SATA in compatibility mode. Later, after I made a bunch of other modifications, the machine was able to boot with dualcore and AHCI mode for the SATA controller. I don't know which modifications made that possible :-)

  • Wireless: You MUST replace the Intel card with an IBM/Atheros one. Having done so:

sudo nano System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros.kext/Contents/Info.plist Add: <string>pci168c,1014</string> Fix ownership and permissions per the guide above.

  • Audio: Volume and mute buttons work after following the Sound instructions at

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=37624, Fix ownership and permissions per the guide above.

Microphone and line-in do not work. If you want to use skype, one option is to get a USB camera and install the program macam so that you can use the camera's microphone.

Fix ownership and permissions per the guide above.

Updating to 10.5.2: I only installed the non-OSX updates, i.e., itunes, quicktime, etc. That temporarily broke the system. To solve this, press F8 at boot time and select -x -f. This rebuilds the kext caches and boots in safe mode. Rebooting once more (without any options now), seems to do the trick. .
