This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.

  • Install Method: iPC OS 10.5.6 Final PPF5 and iDeneb 10.5.7 Combo Update. After the combo update you must start with voodoo or anv option. and from The Combo Update KIT you must start iDeneb.Tool.rev1.mpkg and select anv or voodoo from kernels to be the default kernel. That's it, you're done.
  • Kernel: Voodoo on 10.5.6, AnV XNU 1.4 Kernel on 10.5.7 but it works with Voodoo as well
  • BIOS Version: 2.1
  • BIOS Options: Disabled Serial, Parallel & MIDI Ports, No-Excute Memory Protection = Enabled, HPET Table = Enabled (not taking the Credit)

If you have the 9.5.0 kernel you will need the Seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5 If you have the 9.6.0 kernel you will need the Seatbelt.kext from 10.5.6" iPC install contains 9.5.0 version, just add it at customize. Seatbelt.kext

Issues so far:

  • Only 1 CPU is active(CPUS=1 One Core Fix, some might need to start the install dvd with cpus=1 boot option)

Fix for 1 CPU issue: download a modified bios, [1] choose file 4CoreDual-SATA2 v2.10 After you flashed the bios, you can simply install it without the need of the cpus=1 One Core fix, and can use both(or more) cores of your cpu ;)

  • Marvell 88E8056 LAN: works at 100baseTX - selected driver during install
  • Realtek RTL8110SC LAN: works at 100baseTX - selected driver during install
  • Onboard WiFi: did not try because have WiFi on the router
  • ICH9R SATA: works only in AHCI mode (selected AHCI driver during install), but I managed to change XP to AHCI mode without reinstall
  • Jmicron PATA: works - have two IDE writers LiteOn and Pioneer 116D, both work with burning folders - selected JMicron driver during install
  • USB: Works out of the box - no drivers needed

P5Q SE Plus Intel P45 + ICH10 Jmicron ATA controller
  • Install Method: XxX 10.5.6 Leo Install Disc Rev1 Partitioned hard drive as GUID, then upgraded to 10.5.7 using Software update. The computer did not make it through the first reboot (it restarted before it got to the splash screen). Then the bios did not properly identify my SATA drives. Restarted one more time and everything was fine.
  • BIOS Version: 2002-BIOS-Asus_P5Q_SE_Plus_for MAC_OS_X_&_all_OS__incl._by_Juzzi.ROM.zip [2]
  • VIA 1708s Audio 8 Channel High-Definition: System info only shows stereo sound, which being divided between the 5 speakers I have connected. I have to open the audio setting in system preferences then in the Output section I have to highlight record device and turn up the volume, then the microphone works.(I have to do this every time I boot into OSX to have a working microphone.) Hopefully that works for other people. Cannot test Optical S/PDIF. Used VoodooHDA [3]
  • LAN: Realtek Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI Net 2 used Realtek kext from install CD Added ethernet EFI String to com.apple.Boot.plst with OSX86 Tools to get Time Machine Working.
  • ICH10 SATA: used New ICHxx (ICH10 support) kext on install DVD Three hard drives + DVD Writer recognized. I did not reinstall this kext after 10.5.7 upgrade
  • Jmicron PATA: works (used Jmicron kext on install DVD) CD writer recognized
  • USB: works (tested with mouse, keyboard, webcam, and flash drive)
  • Floppy Drive not tested.
  • Nvidia Geforce 9800GT using EFI STUDIO Dual Monitor works S-Video out does not work. Mouse is glitches after wake from sleep.

    • Note: don't choose any video or audio drivers here - doesn't work.
  • fixes: ACPI fix, cpus=1 fix, UUID error fix, AppleSMBIOS-27 rev3 667MHz (my RAM speed - choose yours!).

Kexts & patches:

  • NVInstaller v52.pkg NVInstaller link (QE/CI, QuartzGL enabled)
    • Note: GFX strings + aquamacs 9000 driver v2 works too but QE/CI not working.
  • VoodooHDA.kext VoodooHDA link
    • Note: remove/disable AppleHDA.kext before rebooting.
  • IONetworkingFamily.kext (for Time Machine) Follow this thread
    • Note: remove/disable default installation's IONetworkingFamily.kext before applying patch above.

Applications:

Sound Output Configuration: System Preferences->Sound->Select Analog #0 Master or Analog #0 PCM. Restart & Shutdown working; Sleep untested.

Issues:

  • Time Machine works with internal HDD only(formatted with GUID partition table). With external USB HDD, it keeps disconnected.

  • Setup BIOS - Set for AHCI mode. Set power save to STR.
  • Boot to CD image in UD3LR_pack.zip (http://www.cdmotorworks.com/UD3LR_Pack.zip)
  • Swap Retail DVD at prompt. Install normally (Ethernet works during install so you can register during install). Reboot with Boot CD again. Do Software updates. Do 10.5.7 update.
  • Install Chameleon 2 RC1 into your hard drive. Copy 5 kexts to Extra folder that Chameleon creates, run script to creat mkext. Install sound kexts with kext helper b7.
  • Use OSX86Tools or UInstaller to set strings for Video and ethernet. Reboot to hard drive.
  • Everything works including sleep (leave cd in drive to get sleep to work), Time Machine, Audio in and out, fully update enabled and very stable.

Later had problem of no ip address, deleted com.Ralink..plist from ~/user/Library/Preferences, reconnected to WPA/2 (using TKIP) and works good.

USB Adapter 802.11b/g F5D7050 v4 Belkin (Zydas 1211b) 100% working. Sometimes need to replug on boot if using 4.5.7.0 driver. Problem gone using 4.5.10.0 driver - Provided here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118590&hl= Signal strength not as strong as Windows driver. Ability to scan for networks and connect both naked or WEP/WPA all working. Drivers come with provided "WLan" tool which automatically starts at each boot for your convenience.

PCI 802.11b/g AWLH4130 Airlink Works as AirPort, but only support WEP and Open Wireless networks in menu, for WPA Use the Network Assistent, use this driver and this Application. For Sleep Fix Wireless Sleeper run in background and when your computer go to sleep it will turn off AirPort, when wake this app enable the AirPort for you.
