Can't Access Internet: you may find the LAN works but you can't access outside addresses (eg. browser can't find pages); this is a DNS issue - if you can ping 8.8.8.8 but can't ping google.com (or use your browser to go anywhere outside the local network), then it's DNS related. SOLUTION: upon startup (or whenever this occurs) go to console and type 'sudo killall mDNSResponder', then enter your password. This causes the DNS client service to restart. Within a couple of seconds, DNS should be working and all will be well, you'll be able to surf the net :)

macOS 10.6.2
Hardware Compatibility

This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.2 builds only.

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

  • Kernel => Legacy_Kernel 10.2
  • Graphic => NVEnabler (for 9500GT)
  • Audio => VooDoo_HDA (RTL888)

  • Shutdown & reboot ok, sleep not work at 32 bit
  • Please Note: You must set compatible mode in the BIOS for ATA, Only primary IDE will work, so set your HDD and DVD drive up on the same channel. Also, the TVOut for the 9500GT does not work and will cause other display outputs to malfunction, unplug the TVOut to prevent this.

  • Installed using Retail DVD image on chameleon boot based usb key
  • Vanilla Kernel, Chameleon 2.0 RC4, IDE Must be set to compatible mode for ATA driver to work.

  • my case.
  • Bootloader -> Chameleon 2.0 RC4
  • Kernel -> Vanilla 10.2.0
  • Graphics -> NVidia Geforce 8600 GTS 256MB, EFI String added to com.apple.Boot.plist. For GMA950 no EFI String and video need change AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext (from kexts.com) then can change display resolution and with OSX86Tools enble Quartz Extreme.
  • QE/CI is enabled, have yet to test to make certain they are functioning.
  • Audio -> Currently not working, perhaps VooDooHDA once an SL release is made.
  • System Support -> FakeSMC.kext (netkas.org), PlatformUUID.kext, a third I can't remember atm,
  • will update as I do more tests and final configuration.
  • ETHERNET -> Works OTB.

  • USB, SATA/IDE working but with quirks.

  • I install from another harddrive running OSX
  • If install retail version and upgrade from Apple you will do a lot more patching. It works but too much work.
  • The easiest method was Using SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM-v3.5 to install 10.6 with all options selected.
  • Then i used Snow_Leopard 10.6.2 by Hazard. I installed:
  • Chameleon RC3 10.5
  • NVEnabler (for my 9600gt)
  • ElliotForceLegacyRTC (keeps cmos from resetting)
  • ALC889a
  • ---You don't have to have your dsdt patched when you select those options---
  • After Installation completes you need to delete dsmos.kext
  • If you get a kernel panic use -v and boot again, sometimes works!

If you want update from apple. Update then restart

  • boot into another OSX to remove some files after update completes
  • delete dsmos.kext and get sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.2 (old kext will cause KP)
  • After new sleepenabler, my sound died. Install ALC889a_sl_10
  • If you get a KP from AppleHDA.kext, Then delete it!
  • All should be good depending on other minor hardware you use.

  • Boot from DVD or copy the contents of the iso image to an USB drive and boot it (much faster!)
  • Check all options as shown in the attached images and install (I've installed onto a SATA HDD - don't know if an IDE one would work too)

Then there was a problem: After install on first boot, Mac would start the install wizard where you could type your name etc. But there was only the gray background and the cursor. I solved it by booting the hard drive in another AMD computer and made the install-wizard process there. Then it boots correctly. Known bugs:

  • Some graphic errors (may depend on the graphics card)
  • Every sound output causes the Finder to restart itself (that might be the reason why the installer hasn't worked - because it wanted to play a sound and caused a Finder reset)

| Yes/64bit Vanilla | Yes |- |K9A2 Platinum |AMD 790FX Chipset (SB600) |Installation method:

  • Started with 10.5.7 > 10.6.0 [49] >10.6.2 Hazard
  • Installed 10.6.2 by Hazard on a separate drive.

Issues:

1. Some extensions did not install during setup. Reinstall manually [50]

2. Error in terminal when using sudo command: sudo: /etc/sudoers is owned by gid 80, should be 0

  • This is a symptom of Admin account missing / Only standard user account's available:
    • Boot into single user mode
    • Type (after typing the commands to check disk and mount.):

rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

  • Reboot - Now your system will startup at the Setup Assistant Screen so you can establish an admin account.

Next:

  • Repair permissions using Disk Utility. While repairing you might..

Get this error while attempting to repair permissions: Error message: No installer package can be found for this disk

  • Best solution is to just update to 10.6.3 (trust me, it's too much trouble to solve). Once upgraded, this problem disappears.

|No. Works with Blacknight 10.2 Kernel and Modbin. I used Modbin in the end. |Use these selections in Hazard's install:

PCI B/G DWL-G520 D-Link Atheros Used Atheros options on leohazard's 10.6.2 disc (Download link [65]) Yes Yes
PCI b/g/n WMP300N Linksys BCM43XNG N
  • EK/AU versions have the Atheros chipset, US versions Broadcom. This is for the Broadcom. It won't say on card so probe if unsure.
  • Works great with patch to plist file.
  • Got it up and running in 10.6.0. Every update you will have to repatch. how to patch the file - edit the contents of info.plist in AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext by adding <string>pci14e4,4329</string> between strings ending 4328 & 432b
  • This can be accomplished rather quickly through terminal, copy and paste

sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/ Contents/PlugIns/ AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist

  • add the edit and save. run sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions in terminal, restart, go to system preferences/network and you will see your new AirPort card populate in the list of network connections.
