  • IDE, SATA works
  • Audio, LAN Out work out of the box

  • prerequired procedure : AHCI enabled in the Bios
  • Default Options (but Chameleon v2 RC4 Bootloader) + Intel SATA, JMicron SATA, NTFS3G, Ethernet
  • IDE, SATA works (Raid works)
  • Audio, LAN Out work out of the box
  • Firewire not tested
  • About this mac crashes

| |No |Yes (About this mac crashes) |- |IP35 |Intel P35 + ICH9R + Jmicron JMB363 |

  • ICH9R works by faking as Intel ESB2 in DSDT (otherwise drives recognized as external)
  • Graphics card (GTX260) works with either GraphicsEnabler or EFI string
  • Audio not tested
  • FireWire works out of box
  • USB works out of box but prevents going to sleep - can be fixed via DSDT patch
  • LAN (Marvell 88E8056) requires modified IONetworkingFamily
  • Sleep doesn't work. After USB is patched in DSDT the machine goes to sleep, but doesn't wake up

|DSDT patching allows you to reduce extra kexts down to only FakeSMC. See [1] |Yes |Yes |- |- |AW9D-MAX |Intel 975X & ICH7 |Installed using iatkos s3 v2

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 4Ghz, 4GB RAM @ 800Mhz
  • BIOS Version: final
  • Bootloader : AsereBLN v1.1.9 (Quad boot w/ win7, ubuntu, and 10.6.8)(loaded by grub))
  • Kernel : qoopz 10.3.0
  • Graphics : NVEnabler (for NVIDIA 7600gt 256)
  • Audio : VoodooHDA & AppleHDA either works, Voodoo has a well functioning preference pane. There's no systemwide EQ on osx, so you might check out an app called Hear.
  • SATA, IDE, USB, PS/2, Audio, Lan, Firewire- All Working. Firewire is flawless w/ motu828mkII, PS/2 & USB mouse/keyboard play nice 99% of the time. The high speed usb ports on the firewire expansion card ARE FAST.
  • USB wifi drivers are fantastic. Multiple wlan config utilities work flawlessly for my cards(WNA1100, WUA-1340) the 1340 is supported by apple/dlink, the wna1100 is not, very surprised at the quality of the wifi drivers.
  • Be advised that osx doesn't like it when you run a ps/2 keyboard & usb mouse or vice versa. can't beat the range of my wireless ps2 keyboard, i've tried everything;for me a mix/match of apple and voodoo ps2 drivers is the only solution. With only one or the other i get a frozen mouse about once every 10 hours and hw detection boot issues.
  • Video works fine on all resolutions/both heads. 1/20 boots it goes to login screen without loading graphics mode.
  • Shutdown & restart work fine, but won't Sleep. i haven't tried fixing it.
  • About this mac crashes & logs you out, might need SMBIOSEFI.kext

From 10.6.2 it's easy to upgrade to 10.6.8 if you install the offline update and install a legacy kernel and 3 kexts, then set/fix permissions before you reboot. (IOUSBFamily 10.6.4, IOUSBMassStorageClass, and IOACPIFamily) Btw, everyone reading this should go get an 8gb stick & dl iPortable Snow persistant live osx86 usb image-it's Just like a linux liveCD. Copy from within iportable, the OSx86 Hackintosh Tools directory, you'll appreciate the redundancy and variety of these utilities/drivers. You can repair/rebuild/offline defrag from it, even. Btw, cloning your HD from the iportable usb drive and repairing permissions works, too, on the aw9d-max w/o any configuration and gives you the hw detection/configuration on every boot like a live image does. I'm not sure what all is different, but it has more thorough detection and kext loading for finicky things like hyperthreading on p4 boxes. |USBFix, EHCIacquire, /Extra dir, fakesmc, Disabler, RTC, EVO Reboot, USB, Intel SATA/IDE, Voodoo PS/2, Nvidia EFI, NVEnabler, Intel Pro 100 Ethernet, wifi drivers.... | Yes | Yes |- |]

  • Install Method: Mac OS X 10.6.3 Retail restored to USB thumbdrive (using Mac OS in VirtualBox) with myHack Installer and using kernel 10.3.0 from nawcom
  • BIOS: 0901
  • S-ATA: Intel: AHCI mode only with disk in port0. JMicron: Works. Marvell: Disabled
  • Audio: Works
  • USB: Works
  • Ethernet: Works with Intel82566MM (the one for Intel 82567LV)
  • VGA: Works with GTX480 using fermi package
  • Monitor: Two screens connected via DVI work once the driver is installed
  • Bluetooth: Works
  • Webcam: Logitech C200 recognized (microphone works, video not tested)
  • Sleep has not been tested. Shutdown and Restart work. SATA_6G (Marvell) disabled in BIOS (seems to cause problems with JMicron driver if enabled). Vanilla kernel did not work at all. Boot with flag busratio=24 (depends on CPU) to install and once installed. Used cpus=1 to install. -force64 needed to boot once installed (detects disk problems and shuts down if not used). Use nawcom kernel.
  • Installed Mac OS in VirtualBox first to create image from DVD, restore to USB, use myHack Installer on it and install legacy_kernel 10.3.0 from nawcom.
  • Installed with disk connected to port5 of Intel controller in AHCI with 4 other disks connected in ports 0 to 3 and BR drive in port4. Moved to port0 afterwards to get rid of 'Still waiting for root device'. Moved to JMicron afterwards. It should work by using JMicron or Intel port0 from the beginning.
  • DSDT.aml added to /, but I have no idea if it is being used. Removing 'alias' in CPU section is all it really needs (or so it seems).
  • If booting fails, trying again seems to work. Add -f -x to boot options just in case if it continues failing.
  • Installed with the 6GB of RAM using XMP profile (1600 MHz), GTX480, two monitors connected, HT enabled, Intel SATA in AHCI mode, integrated sound disabled, Audigy2 in PCI slot, x-fi Titanium in PCIe port, multiple USB devices connected and SATA_6G Disabled.

  • Install Method: [25]
  • Installed from a 10.6 Retail Disk using Empire EFI 1.0.7 Boot Disk (although I skipped the graphics part).
  • Than updated straight to 10.6.3 with Apple Software Updater. (you must delete the SleepEnabler.kext before updating and then install the proper SleepEnabler.kext for 10.6.3)
  • The included Kexts from the tutorial work just fine. I also used a PS2 Keyboard but needed some additional snow leo PS2 kexts.
  • BIOS: F14
  • AUDIO: Onboard ALC889A (use included kexts)
  • LAN: Onboard RTL8168B (use included kexts)
  • SATA HD and DVD-Writer. AHCI enabled in BIOS
  • IDE doesn't work by now, need additional kexts.
  • Everything works as it should; sleep, restart, shutdown, USB Stick Plug 'n Play etc.

|Kexts from the GA_P35_DS4_Snow_Pack.zip pack in forementionend tutorial: [26] |yes |? |- |GA-P35-DS3 |ICH9 & ?? | Installation:

  • Package with used Tools/Kexts: [27]
  • Special thanks to: [28] (picked some information and kexts from them)
  • Restore Retail DVD onto a USB flash drive from an already working Mac (I've used a Mac Mini but a good working VMware would do the same job)
  • Install myHack installer on the flash drive (leave the settings as chosen by default, but tick an additional kext called IOATAFamily.kext)
  • Then you have to add some kexts to the myhack drive:
    • Goto the flash drive and right-click on it
    • Choose Get Info and unlock the padlock-icon in the bottom of the appearing window (you have to type in your password)
    • And un-check the box which says something like Ignore userrights on this device
    • Then you can copy the kexts from my package to the drive by using terminal and type in (the stuff within the brackets are comments - don't just copy&paste these commands !!!)
      • sudo su (type your password)
      • cp -R /Downloaded/Folder/Kexts/*.kext /Volume/Mac OS X Installer/Extra/Extensions (alter these paths to your own!!)
      • cp /Downloaded/Folder/DSDT.aml /Volume/Mac OS X Installer/Extra
      • cp /Downloaded/Folder/smbios.plist /Volume/Mac OS X Installer/Extra
    • And now rebuild the kextcache for Chameleon to use these new kexts: so again type in your (still opened) terminal and alter the paths
      • kextcache -v 1 -m /Volume/Mac OS X Installer/Extra/Extensions.mkext /Volume/Mac OS X Installer/Extra/Extensions
  • After that you're done with the preparation - you should be able to boot from your USB flash drive now (don't forget to activate AHCI SATA mode in BIOS) and then use the usual Mac Installer Wizard like you would do on a real Mac
  • Once you finished installing Mac OS, again boot from the USB drive but now choose your fresh Mac hard drive in Chameleon's boot menu
  • If everything went well you should be able to boot into your new Hack OS but now you have to boot every time from your flash drive - so install myhack installer again (but this time onto your hard drive and not to the flash drive and again don't change any settings except the kext IOATAFamily.kext)
  • And then add the kexts from my package again with the same procedure including the rebuild of the Extensions.mkext (but to your hard drive of course)
  • Reboot without the flash drive and enjoy your new HackMac ;)
  • For updating to 10.6.3 simply remove/delete the SleepEnabler.kext and rebuild the Extensions.mkext - then use Apple's Updater Tool like you would update a real Mac

Hardware Information:

  • GRAPHICS: ASUS EN9400GT SILENT works with QE/CI, resolution change works, 3D Games are working (just fine, like a real Mac!)
  • AUDIO: Onboard - works with included kexts
  • LAN: Onboard - works (but causes some VERY MINOR problems when using bonjour - so simply buy a 10€ PCI card with better support)
  • SATA HDD and DVD-Writer. (AHCI must be enabled in BIOS!!)
  • IDE not tested
  • Everything else works fine without any problem (but with updating to 10.6.3 you have to give up your Sleep-Support!)

  • Audio (ALC885) requires both AppleHDA.kext & HDAEnabler.kext (google for 'ALC889a_LayoutID_885.zip'), but it is said that with a properly edited DSDT.aml file then the HDAEnabler.kext file is not required.

  • Only used a Phenom x955 CPU, but because this board is socket AM3 compatible, procedures for a compatible Athlon might varry. For phenoms, Black Knight's 10.3.0 kernel works the best, legacy kernel has no bus detection. For Athlons, you may use the Legacy kernel.
  • If using a Phenom CPU, be sure to enter busratio=20 at the f8 prompt; This is not required when initializing install from Empire Efi. Black knight's kernel includes FSB detection; Thus you don't have to use this flag every time at boot.
  • Tested installation using both GUID and MBR partitions, they both worked!

  • The power button does not work at all. Must use options from Apple menu to shut down.
  • Fans constantly spin. Use VoodooPState.kext to lower CPU steppings.

  • You might or might not need NulCPU Power management. On a Phenom CPU it does absolutely nothing, fans still spin. Either remove Intel CPU Power Management.kext or use the disabler.kext to disable Intel power management.
  • Open halt restart or evoreboot is also not needed. I find reboot times are quicker without them.

  • Be sure to Patch CPUIDs with some patcher for iTunes.
  • On-board lan did not receive extensive testing. The rtl8169 kext loads and the Ethernet interface is shown in network; It can connect to the internet.

  • EK/AU versions have the Atheros chipset, US versions Broadcom. This is for the Broadcom. It won't say on card so probe if unsure.
  • Works great with patch to plist file.
  • How to patch the file - edit the contents of info.plist in AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext by adding <string>pci14e4,4329</string> between strings ending 4328 & 432b
  • This can be accomplished rather quickly through terminal, copy and paste

sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/ Contents/PlugIns/ AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist

  • add the edit and save. run sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions in terminal, restart, go to system preferences/network and you will see your new AirPort card populate in the list of network connections.
