HCL 10.7.2/Portables
|
This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.7.2 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.
- ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
- Please add hardware into tables.
- This is for 10.7.2 builds only.
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Issues
- problems with sound or KP at boot, need to delete AppleHDA.kext
- always need to fix files attributes with Kext Wizard after installing or deleting kexts, else KP at boot
- if you will find problem with Bluetooth, try to reinstall DellBluetoothHCI.kext, reboot
- when installing apple update 10.6.8, you will need to replace after update this two files: AppleACPIPlatform.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext from 10.6.7 and delete AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E
- for apple update 10.6.8 you will need to have FakeSMC.kext v.3.1.0, included in archive above and Chameleon 2.0 RC5 rev.1078
- for Lion 10.7 with ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin error at BOOT, need to restore AppleACPIPlatform.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext form SL 10.6.8

- I have been trying to get Lion on the HP Elitebook 8440p for about a week on and off the main issue was that it was getting stuck at DSMOS.
To resolve this i first installed using iATKOS L2 and still has the same issue so i took the hard drive out and put it in my Dell Latitude E6420 and it booted first time.
So thought it must be the graphics as i dont have the dedicated graphics like the other elitebooks so removed appleintelhdgraphics.kext and appleintelhdgraphicsfb.kext put it back into the hp and hey presto booted.
My next thought was getting unibeast to work so i removed the intel hd graphics kexts from the usb hard drive and it booted right away so used unibeast to install then used multibeast 4.2.1 used voodoo 2.7.2,fakesmc,ps/2 fix and chimera 1.7 and its working perfectly apart from the crackling of the speakers when you reboot or shutdown. would really like to get native Graphics to work PM Me philznow on osx86.net with any ideas

EDIT: Doesn't seem to be a problem anymore after updating to 10.7.4)

- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 560M 1.5 GB with everything working including QE
- Sound: Not sure yet, and it is not working. No iAtkos sound drivers work as far as I can tell, all of them cause loud screeching to come from speaker during install
- Ethernet: Not working, still haven't looked into it completely, I don't care that much.
- wifi: Realtek RTL8188CE. Not working, and it probably won't work in the future. I would either go with a USB adapter, or replace the internal one with this one (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=atheros+ar9285&hl=en&cid=1667107201704963050&ei=rwwqT8iDNpCOjQTk-NGRBw&ved=0CAwQrRI) as it is very easy to replace. - Dualboot seems to work fine with chameleon.
- Do not install multibeast to get your post install stuff, it kernel panicked for me, still looking into possible solutions.
- Facetime Working with valid apple id. Make sure that you legitimately purchase lion before doing this, otherwise it won't let you use this or the mac app store
- (edit 11 Sept.2012: VoodooHDA.kext works fine with AppleHDAdisabler.kext i place it here: yavuzmamac.com/depo/voodoo.zip. you must run both of it to get sound properly working . (tested on lion and mountain lion P150HM / i7 2630 cpu / nvidia 560 gtx )
Make sure to check the Graphics Enabler (Default) as well as GF100 for gpu support. If you have the model with the 460m, the same should work.

Qosmio X505-Q8102x
- Install Method: iAtkos L2
- Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor 2.0 GHz (2.9 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology), 6MB L3 Cache
- Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset
- Audio: Conexant High Definition Audio
- You have to install the VoodooHDA272 package to get the audio to work - the VoodooHDA273 package did not work for me.
- Battery: works good
- Bluetooth: working! but Bluetooth only started to work when i installed the Intel Management Engine Interface on my Windows 7 install and rebooted into Mac Osx Lion. Maybe that driver install turns on the Bluetooth chip. So you might need to do a dual boot and install that driver to get Bluetooth working on the Qosmio Q102x
- DVD-RW Blu-Ray Rom: Reads & Writes works. I used Toast11 to burn a DVD+R DL disk.
- Ethernet & WiFi: Works! To get the wired ethernet to work i had to download the AtherosL1cEthernet.kext from here-- http://www.osx86.net/view/2049-atherosl1cethernet.kext.html
To get the WiFi to work i had to install the Atheros AR9285 driver Kext. It should work out of the box like that.
- If it does not for some reason just go get the IO80211Family.kext from the retail OS X Lion 10.7.2 DVD or image using TransMac and edit the AirporAtheros21.kext inside the contents
Do this: add <string>pci168c,2b</string> below <string>pci168c,2a</string> save repair permission restart You can try to get the kext here-- [53]
- Keyboard & TrackPad: PS/2
You have to check PS/2 driver in the install to get the trackpad and keyboard to work. If you want the complete Synaptics features then download and install the trackpad synaptic-gesture.zip from here-- http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=1448
"Instructions : remove old PS2controller.kext and AppleAcpiPS2nub.kext, replace with the same named kexts from new packages. put the trackpad.prefpane in /LIBRARY/PREFPANES . Don't touch/remove the OSX built in trackpad prefpane ( which is in /System/Library/prefpanes) repair permissions with diskutility , reboot. Afterwards you can manage your trackpad via Systemsettings -> trackpad. tons of options to choose from, makes the trackpad fully work ( synaptics for me , 1finger scroll,2finger scroll, horizontal, vertical, tap to click ). "
- Works OOB facetime & skype video and mic works good
- USB Mouse: working fine
- USB Slots: working fine
- Shut Down/ReBoot: works fine
- Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M with 1.5 GB GDDR5 discrete graphics memory
- The laptop seems to work good now. The Bluetooth feature is a part of the Atheros ar90002-wb WiFi chipset that is in this computer.
- I am dual booting with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and i used the GUID Partition table on the 650gb drive. First partition is Mac OSX Lion and second is Windows 7 Ultimate. Just boot from the iAtkos L2 DVD using the -v flag and partition the hard drive if you doing a dual boot. After installation you will have a chance to choose what operating system you want at the iAtkos boot screen
- One note: Do not do the install with more than 4GB RAM. Pull the extra out and reinstall after the OS is installed.

- Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset
- Install Method: Unibeast +10.7.2 combo update + EasyBeast or iAtkos method above for the Q8102X, I used a combination of the two trying to get a vanilla system with dsdt. Until the dsdt is properly edited nothing but kernel panics so use easybeast or iatkos. Don’t use an extracted dsdt until someone can patch it. Most important note, do not run multibeast until all proper kexts for trackpad, wireless, Ethernet, are properly installed using kext wizard along with a restart after each individual kext. Don’t do anything out of order unless you want to start over.
- Audio: Intel High Definition Audio use VoodooHDA 0.2.72 volume shortcuts on laptop work
- Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M with 1.5 GB GDDR5 discrete graphics memory. Fixed with Multibeast Fermi Drivers
- Bluetooth (USB): Haven’t tested yet
- BlueRayDVDrw: Works OOB
- Ethernet: Works with AtherosL1cEthernet.kext.
- WiFi: To get the WiFi to work I had to install the Atheros AR9285 driver Kext from iatkos or install manually with kext wizard using this. Get the kext here [54]
- Keyboard & TrackPad: Use generic AppleACPIPSNub.kext and ApplePS2Controller.kext with kext wizard, restart, and use kext wizard again with the keyboard fix above for the Q8102X.
- WebCam: Works OOB after multibeast.
- Battery: Needs Voodoo Battery kext for battery levels to be seen, still working on this, I think it needs to be installed using kext wizard before multibeast is installed for Battery Level icon to show.
- Shut Down/Reboot: works fine
- Installation order for unibeast+multibeast.
- Install with Unibeast
- Update with 10.7.2 Combo Update
- Install Kexts in this order
- Ethernet
- Wireless
- Trackpad. sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions + restart after each
- Run multibeast
- Easybeast
- Audio: Voodo HDA 2.7.2
- Video: Fermi Package
- Smbios: MacBook Pro 8,1
- Touch File extensions and reboot
Everything will work out of box, except you won’t be able to see battery life. I’ll repost the install method once I figure out the battery fix, the iatkos method from the Toshiba X505-8102X from above gets everything working plus battery icon, but I wanted the cleanest install possible to so I went for the unibeast method.
