This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.7.3 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.
- ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
- Please add hardware into tables.
- This is for 10.7.3 builds only.

- Overall Install is quite easy. For proper graphics use the dsdt.aml from an ASUS N73. Only requires kexts for Wifi/BT, Audio and Touchpad.

Inspiron 6400

- Runs Tiger 10.4.11, Leopard 10.5.8, SnowLeopard 10.6.8, and Lion 10.7.3.
- Install Method: For Lion was used the Genuine Apple Lion 10.7 method restored on USB stick and Chameleon, then MyHack 4.1+ and over that was installed Chameleon Wizard 3.5.1 with Chameleon-2.1svn-r1814
The wireless card Intel 3945 ABG was replaced with a Dell 1500N Draft. CPU Core2Duo, Graphic Card, PS2 TrackPad and Keyboard, Battery, Ethernet, Card Reader and Sound are the things that needed to be repaired and fixed.

- Other: The new DELL genuine battery inserted works for about two and half hours (tested on watching movies).

- Install Method:
Install iAtkos L1, After of Installation, boot again with DVD iAtkos l1, Go to utilities/Terminal and remove all IntelHDGraphics, reboot and boot without problems, Download and install 10.7.3 Combo Update. Don't reboot delete all AppleIntelHDGraphics and AppleIntelHD3000 of /System/Library/Extensions, Repair Permissions with Kext Wizard or Kext Utility.

- Runs 10.6.8, 10.7, 10.7.1, 10.7.2, and 10.7.3. No idea about 10.5.X but most likely.
- Install Method: I used the iBoot + MultiBeast method to install Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then used xMove to install Lion.
Afterwards, I removed the default wireless card, the Intel 5100 AGN, and replaced it with the natively working Atheros AR5B93 card. The card broke functionality with 10.7.3 but I restored it with a Kext designed for Snow Leopard. Kext is linked below for the Atheros AR5BXX series. If your wireless isn't working, I suggest getting this card. It is easy to replace and is only around $10USD. Wireless, Battery, Ethernet, and Sound are the things that needed to be repaired with SL and Lion.
- Bootloader: Chameleon.
- Kernel: mach Kernel. 64-bit Kernel and extensions.
- Kexts: VoodooHDA,IO80211Family.kext (http://www.osx86.net/view/921-io80211family.kext.html), BCM57780Ethernet.kext, VoodooBattery.kext.
- Issues: Sleep does not work properly (probably fixable). I do not care enough to fix sleep because I never use it.
Shut down/Restart often fail to complete. I usually end up with a black screen with the OS unloaded. I must hold down the power to continue. OS X is off but the system does not shut off (Most likely an issue I only have). Because of the i7 processor, I want to know if the processor lowers its frequency in idle. It appears it does not (May hurt battery life). HDMI audio-out does not work and never will.
- Other: The Y550P or any Y series from Lenovo has atrocious battery life because of its tiny 6-cell battery and power-hungry hardware.

Afterwards, I removed the default wireless card, the Realtek 9181se, and replaced it with the natively working BCM94311 card. The BCM94311 worked perfectly with lion. If your wireless isn't working, I suggest getting this card.

- Kexts: VoodooHDA.kext, AtherosL1cEthernet.kext, VoodooBattery.kext.

Installation via iATKOS L2 works also, make sure you select the battery option on customize menu, keyboard and touchpad won't work until you install PS/2 kext.

- Kexts: VoodooHDA.kext, AtherosL1cEthernet.kext, VoodooBattery.kext.
- Issues: For Sleep to work properly you'll need the "RTC DSDT fix" and disable "Legacy USB support" in BIOS.
