This is a list of installation guides that will help you to get OSx86 up and running.
If you are new to OSx86, please use one of the guides in the Recommended section.

Please do not copy the content form one site to another site, please use original content in your site.

Please don't put your link anywhere; place it in the correct section.

Some of these guides don't tell you how to partition, please see the bottom of the page for details on partitioning or see Partitions.

Information for new users

If you want to install OSX on your Intel or AMD computer, your computer processor needs to support at least SSE2. You can check for SSE2 support with a program called CPU-Z. It is recommended that your computer supports SSE3 for application compatibility, speed and performance. Make sure to check which version of OSx86 you need for your processor.

Wikipedia on SSE2 and on SSE3. These pages feature a list of supported CPUs. Using CPU-Z is more accurate though.

. . . . . . . . . . . ( Video on How to dual boot XP & Mac OSX )

I Wanted to share with you all a link to a video that I uploaded that I found a while back online, & it's called ( How to dual boot XP & Mac OSX ) What I did was have it playing on another computer & I basicly just went step by step pausing & playing & even rewinding in some areas & it is a very good instructional video on how to basicly partition & dual boot or put as many different distro's as you like. you can use this same process with any os, but you know that windows of any kind must always be the first installed & then the others can be added. the link is below.

This video taught me basicly how to dual boot any distro be it XP & OSX,XP & Linux,XP & XP, or xp & anything,Have Fun! I knew how to dual boot before, but this way to me is the fastes & easiest. Just copy & paste the link below this line in the browsers address bar to see the video on ( How to dual boot XP & Mac OSX )

The proper boot order

If you get a "HFS+ partition error" in a dual boot situation (possibly in the event you had to re-install either OS after setting up your OS selection menu) it is possible that the wrong partition, or no partition, has been designated as the primary partition.

With EasyBCD

NeoSmart Technologies' EasyBCD contains a built-in feature to repair the HFS+ error. Just download and install EasyBCD from NeoSmart Technologies and run it. Go to the "Diagnostics Center" page, and select the "Repair HFS+ Partition Error" option. You'll be presented with a dialog asking you to select the disk and partition numbers for your OS X install. Once you've picked the right numbers, hit OK to repair.

Manually from the Vista DVD

If using Vista, boot to the Vista installation disk and choose the Repair Computer option and open the command line.

At the command line, follow the procedure first used in setting up the dual partition situation (the end of a line denotes pressing enter to complete the command):
diskpart
list disk
select disk <the number of your disk>
list partition
select partition <the number of your windows partition>
active
(if this doesnt work, try set active)

Attempt your boot again. If this does not help, or if you are not in a dual boot situation, the next easiest thing to do is to format your hard drive and just start over.

You can also try downloading Gparted Live CD. Boot into that and then read the online documentation on how to create and format your partitions and disks. Create 3 partitions of any size, as long as the X86 partition is larger than 7GB. Create a NTFS partition, a EXT3 partition, and a FAT32 partition.

Install Windows first. Either Vista or XP is fine, but beware, I just installed Vista and it takes of 10GB! Then Install Ubuntu Linux (download the ISO or get a free ship-it CD from them, shipping is free) or another flavour as long as it has GRUB built into it. I recommend Ubuntu for its ease of use and GRUB. Then Install X86. Using DiskUtility to format your FAT32 partition as FAT32 once, then format it with HFS Journaled (HFS+). The installation only takes about 10 minutes or so, but Vista takes a little longer and so does Ubuntu.

You can also use the GParted Live CD to boot various partitions on your PC so you can boot the partition with your other OS on and reinstall the bootloader from there. For Windows Vista you can follow the procedure outlined above direct from your Windows Vista installation (run cmd as administrator to avoid problems) and for Linux you can use grub-install or the grub shell to rewrite the MBR. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
