macOS 10.6.8
Hardware Compatibility

This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.

  • ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
  • Please add hardware into tables.
  • This is for 10.6.8 builds only.

For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

Hardware Name Chipset Notes Patches Used 32/64bit working with patches
System Configuration
  • Audio: Realtek ALC892 with AppleAzailaAudio.kext (I'll certainly edit this if I find a better solution.)
  • LAN: Realtek 8111E Gigabit Ethernet, Use "Autodetected Wired LAN Support" from ModCD during install.
  • SATA: Works fine without any patches in AHCI mode.
  • Boot Drive: 500GB Samsung HM501II
  • IDE: Untested.
  • USB: Works just fine out of the box. I don't have any USB3 devices, so I don't know whether or not the USB3 ports work at full speed.
  • Optical Drive: 2X SATA DVD±RW drives work perfectly. (1 LG (Lightscribe untested) and 1 Sony Optiarc)
  • Rosewill 2.5" internal USB Card Reader, works perfectly.
  • Shutdown and reboot work, but the machine just reboots upon sleep with SleepEnabler.kext.
  • CPU: AMD Athlon II x4 640 (3000mhz stock) overclocked STABLE to 3900Mhz.
  • Video Card: XFX ATI Radeon 5670 1GB with 1 DVI Monitor at 1920x1080 32BPP; Quartz Extreme works with ATY_Init.
  • RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333Mhz (2x2Gb, 2x4Gb)
  • OS: Mac OS X 10.6.8
  • Bootloader: Chameleon 2.0 RC4
  • Install with Nawcom's ModCD (or ModUSB) and the 10.6.3 retail disc (10.6.0 would probably work as well, but I haven't tried it.) with the following "CUSTOM OPTIONS": (Don't worry if the installer claims that it failed)
    • Legacy Kernel
    • ApplePS2 (if needed/wanted)
    • Chipsets
      • AppleATIATA / AppleATIPATA
    • Audio
      • AppleAzailaAudio
    • Networking
      • Autodetected Wired LAN Support
  • Boot into your fresh installation with the ModCD (or ModUSB) because no bootloader is installed on your hard drive yet.
  • Install the 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 and Nawcom's Legacy Kernel 10.8.0 v2. When the Combo Update's installer is prompting you to reboot, force it to quit from the Apple Menu and then install the Legacy Kernel.
  • Install Chameleon 2.0 RC4; I have NOT been able to get anything other than a kernel panic with Chameleon 2.1.
  • Reboot with -force64 -v and optionally install amd_insn_patcher.
  • Follow the neccessary steps to get your graphics card working. (GraphicsEnabler=Yes, ATY_Init.kext, etc, etc.)
  • Enjoy!
  • There's a slightly upgraded version of this motherboard that supports AM3+ called the M5A88-V EVO which looks so similar to this one that it would probably work too.
  • I very briefly pulled my GPU out just to see, and it wouldn't boot at all with the integrated ATI Radeon 4250; it only kernel panicked. Sorry, I don't remember what info the panic had.

P7P55D-E PRO P55 I used Retail 10.6.0 with iBoot with PCIRootUID=1 at start. It is a Core i7 870, and a friend gave me an Apple GT 120 video card. He was going to bin it! After updating with 10.6.8 combo update every thing works with out any additional kexts. So I did not install Multibeast - easybeast keeping as 'vanilla' as possible. So I use the iBoot cd to boot; the small price to pay.

I Used Retail 10.6.8 with iBoot PCIRootUID=1 at start. I have a Radeon HIS 5830 HD. Before I got the video drivers installed for it I was not able to get it working without PCIRootUID=1. Also Sound does not work from motherboard.

GeForce 210 1 GB DDR3 Silent ASUS *GraphicsEnabler=YES, custom EFI string injected on Boot.plist, you can download here [31]
  • NOTE: The EFI strirng assumes card to be in PCI SLOT 1/0/0, which is the ones on gigabyte motherboard. Find out where is yours if it doesnt work, and modify supplied graphics.plist , then convert to HEX with GFXUTIL tool (look in this forum, very easy), and last substitute your customized hex lines in the boot.plist

  • Important i already use this 2 cards in hackintosh and dont work 100% right you can see this in photoshop open a picture press f 2 times, them h, now move picture with mouse and see that the picture blink or movements are not syncro with mouse but if you use a real mac or use other cards like 9800gt, 250gts or 8600gts you dont have those kind of problems really is a problem if you use photoshop or photo edit software take care. and with enabler gpu is unknow in graphics info and dont use nvidia rom from card. i dont understand why tonys recomend this card i already try everything and dont work at 100%

(be careful not to install other drivers, otherwise the official one won't work. When the official one is installed, there may be problems if you try to change the WINS or DHCP ID: the Wireless Utility will quit right after started, and this can be solved only by reinstalling everything afaik. The problems survive reboot and driver reinstallation.)
